Meg
Jonz! That is so adorably cute! I would really love it sitting on my dressing table. [:)]What wood is it? How long did it take?Such a lovely idea for a piece. Are you going to do other pieces based on the same idea?
TWINKLE
Very sweet - just like you[kiss]Can I have one too?[;-)]
Jonzjob
Thank you ladies. I like it too! The wood is cherry and it took about 4 hours but most of that was waiting for the glue to dry. The young girl who recieved it thought it was lovely and even gave us a small concert. She is a very good violinist! We had a lovely meal and evening. We are very lucky and have some lovely French neibours...I have made quite a few of boxes similar to that and even more money boxes using the same method. This one was made as a present for a friend of ours.I think that I have made almost all of the letters of the alphabet now. I am always making all sorts of things that either take my fancy or people ask for. It's a lovely way to spend my life as far as I'm concerned and it beats the hell out of working for a living![:D]I love turning and pyragrophy too...

Jonzjob
Chris!! Behave!!! Go and get yer chainsaw on yer lathe!!!!But put some wood in forst and stand behind the thing. You still didn't answer my question as to why you thought the saw and the lathe were so NO, NO?Explication s'il vous plaît?
Chris Head
Je peux te bien expliquer JJ. It's just friggin dangerous, unless you get the timber rotating away from you and a saw that isn't equipped with one of those silly diy chains that bounce around...and use areas of the bar and chain that don't compromise safety, difficult to explain. In truth, it's exciting but chisels are a whole lot safer and more accurate, I'm just a nutter who knows saws.
Jonzjob
But obviously NOT lathes???Edit :- Yet!![:D]
Chris Head
Not yet JJ, by the way I'm pretty envious that you can do what you want when you want and not have to worry about the bills at the same time. Keep on trucking.
Jonzjob
It took a fair long time getting to here Chris and an accident to my back made it happen earlier! Not a good way to do it, but a good result, sometimes??
Chris Head
You're enjoying yourself JJ, that's all that matters. I'd love to do those drawers out of a trunk but the kerf of the chain would leave the drawer way too small, and the accuracy required...well! Jonzjob
You could always use a keyhole saw [:-))][6]!!The blade in my bandsaw is a 1/4 inch 6 skip. It's about all I use and it will go down to a 3/4 inch rad, so not bad.... It will also sort out 8 inch thick oak, slowly!!

mint
You know, I've just been thinking the same. Even he can't stay that long on top of a tree in this brass monkey weather?
TWINKLE
I was thinking about him at the beginning of the week too. Do you remember his request for books a few months back? Well I sent him one at the beginning of October and haven't heard a pip from him. I do hope he's okay. Meg normally has news from him - maybe she can give us news of his well being? Chancer
I'm not sure that I got a response or acknowledgement after sending my books Twinkle.I thought that it was a bit odd because only a few days before he had been in contact to explain that he had been discharged from the hospital earlier than expected and to send the books to another address. He had thanked me in advance so there was no reason to acknowledge the delivery but I wonder..........
