Blanche Neige
Diva Star, I think you have made an excellent point.Normally we like to go to different places and try out different gites but have not gone for the complex option. In the States we twice went back to an appartment in Texas, and twice to a rental house in N.C. Why, because they suited our needs and we liked the locations. Now we have our own house so have no need for the gite rental in France. We have stayed in the same B&B at St Malo three times, on our way back to the ferry. Also the same one nr. our house, twice. Why, because it's convenient, the accommodation suits our needs, the Fr. owners are delightful and serve an excellent breakfast. We let our house when we don't need it for ourselves and yes, we have repeat bookings so maybe we are providing the right things and doing something right.[:)]
nimportequoi
"Return and recommedation together. 50% re-booking on its own would be remarkable. And why should anyone be doing anything wrong? Both as a child and an adult, I've never holidayed at the same place twice , no matter how much it was liked. We liked varity. Lots of people do. Some people, however, like to stick with the familiar, particularly, I think, as we specialise in providing accomodation to famillies with younger children. In the end it is the number and value of the weeks booked, not how they come to be booked, that matters."That will teach me to read posts correctly! If I took holidays, I don't think I would want to go back the same area twice unless it was for a specific activity, such as skiing. The enjoyment of the children seems to be a big factor in the rebooking by guests, as does the security of knowing the standard of accommodation is good. We have some guests staying at the moment who are here for their third year and I think they will rebook again for next year, as long as the weather here in Brittany is considerably sunnier than it was last week! I don't think I've ever had a rebooking from people who had terrible weather during their summer holiday.
Ejc
I think there are some good points here - but if the worst had happened - would you have been covered by your insurance for letting these additional people stay?
Georgina
Getting back to the original point, speaking as a parent of twins, I would consider myself fully to blame. Children are attracted to water like wasps to jam and that is obvious. Ladder or no ladder, kids, no matter how young can be amazingly resourceful and can find some other way of getting in a pool. If you are not watching your two year old child, where there is a pool or no pool for that matter, and possibly drinking?? you are really quite stupid. This is one of the reasons why England has become so unbearable, because for the parents who look after their children there are many who think its someone else's responsibility!!Georgina
Miki
No of course you are right Diva, the tongue in cheek was a give awayand after your excellent post, I think we have all more or lessagreed, there is far more than one way to holiday. Many folkswill choose a B&B to tour, although of course we will often get 7day or more stays but in general, gîtes for a week or two and B&Bfor 1-4 nights stops. We are lucky in so much we are in a big midweek and weekend area, we are close to a major port, we are close to the sea. So withall that, we take bits and pices from amny folks, all with differingidea of what they want a B&B for. The cottage picks up the longerstay folks who want a self catering holiday with al the comforts ofhome. Naff I know but that is what many want but won't admit.......The lunch was great by the way, anyone want to know where ? Go on, youknow want to ask (well I want to tell but only to give others the nodof course [;-)] )

Cassis
Just had a look at the Discovery menu. For 46 euros you get absolutely nothing at all. Are you on a diet? [;-)]
Miki
Absolutely !! And it wasn't just that, there were a few other coursesnot mentioned on the menu, including foie gras, a petite soupière andwith the coffees came 16 hand made petite fours. I am going on a strict diet to have a bash later in the year at theMenu Gastronomique. A chap eating it at lunchtime, said part of hisholiday was to go to Cancale and go to the same 4 restaurants. Hehad been doing this for a long time.
Cassis
I remember doing a menu gastronomique in a place in the Perigord on one of our earliest holidays. I completely lost count of the courses. Neither of us could move from our seats at the end. The chef came out to congratulate us on having cleaned up every course.Course, when ah wuz a lad, yer never knew wheere yer next meal wuz cummin' from ...
