I know we must post it Recommandee, anything else we should do? [/quote]

Write your cancellation letter on a piece of A4 sized paper, writing on one side only, fold the paper in such a way that you have no need to use a separate envelope. Write the address the letter is going to on the blank side of the letter. Then there is no possible way that the receiving company can say that they did not receive your letter but only an empty envelope. Make, and keep, a copy of the letter before posting.

This is exactly the procedure that Groupama followed when they provided us with a proforma letter of cancellation to be signed by ourselves.** This was by way of cancelling our house insurance with our Bank and starting cover with Groupama. And this even though the 2 companies are just over the road from each other in our town.

**Groupama paid for the recommendée avec avis de réception too.

Isn't there a risk that a bona fide professional insurance broker will simply be annoyed by getting a "letter+envelope" like that - implying that he's not entirely to be trusted? Or do they all get so many in that form that it's water off a ducks back?

Nobody in insurance is to be trusted: and who cares if they are annoyed? You want them to like you? [:D]
