analogue tele

Recommended Posts

Provided you buy a digital satellite box and input the correct parameters from a site like such as Lyngsat yes you will receive UK channels. Far easier to setup and very little if at all more expensive : Buy  a second hand Sky box complete with viewing card from Ebay or Loot. Buy a new freesat receiver from Curry's or Comet etc. Both will work straight out of the box and give you a better Electronic Programme Guide

Also provided that your tele has a Scart socket on it to connect to the Sat box.

Input parameters? Nah, as long as the dish is pointing at the correct sat cluster (Astra 2 in this case) just do an auto tune on the box and you'll soon be enjoying a 1000+ channels of rubbish

It all depends on what transponder details have been loaded into the factory set memory.    Unless the box has a "blind scan" facility  (where the tuner literally "feels" its way through the band from 10.7 to 12.75 GHz looking ofr carriers and stores everything it finds) then it's possible there will be gaps in the master list (or frequencies will have changed,   although that's less likely on the SES clusters) and - as Anton says - you have to intervene to ensure that all the programmes you want are actually found.

But some boxes are better than others in this respect,   and of course freesat and Sky boxes are "remotely controlled" by their operators to draw up a preplanned list of channels for which the parameters can be updated dynamically.

[quote user="brit"]If I take an english analogue tele to france can I connect it up to a french bought satellite box  to continue to receive english tele on it.

Yes, but you may find it is cheaper and more convenient to take or buy a s/h Sky box (such as one from someone who has now changed to Sky plus, for example). The channels are all set on these along with the programme guide and you only need to line up the dish to get it all going..
