I  have tried to send an internet message but it was not sent and the error report said "bad recipient address syntax ".

 

What does this mean the address I was given had the first letter as a capital and the rest was lower case.[8-)]

I take it you mean an email.

Upper and lower case letters in an email address are irrelevant although I still sometimes get people telling me capital this lower that.............

Whilst disguising the actual recipient but still in EXACTLY the same format can you post the email address here.

Nothing wrong with that at all syntax wise so no idea why it was rejected ?

Have you got the full header from the notification ?

They may have simply given you the wrong address or spelt it wrong.

An incorrect address would not get bounced for a syntax error which is why I asked for the full header [;-)]

If you do a Google search on bad recipient address syntax, you'll get a number of forums discussing this very issue.

E.g. it may or may not be necessary to have the email address in brackets e.g. <[email protected]>

Sent to too many recipients at once, malformed address book, commas/full stops/erroneous white space etc. ISP error. Have you contacted your ISP to see if there's a server error at their end?

Looking through some of the forums there's quite a list of things it could be...

Hope you get a speedy resolution - damned annoying when one can't.

Could it require a dot in the first half of the address? i.e. [email protected]

Or perhaps the ISP requires a different formula, so  the address above would be rejected because it might need to be something like  [email protected]
