First EDF bill - question!

Recommended Posts

We only became the owners last week, and the first bill's arrived in the UK already - very efficient!
There's a tear-off portion with the bill, which I assume gets sent back to EDF, but with what? My bank details so that CA pays it direct? A cheque? Help!
We don't want to set up a direct debit, but prefer to pay 'as and when' the bill comes.

You can either send a cheque or a RIB giving your bank's details in which case you need to sign the appropriate box on the form.

Same thing happened to me - they are quick ! Just sign the slip section where it says "TIP", send a RIB with it and they'll take the amount on the slip from your bank account - this is not a DD but a one off payment. You can do the same thing again next time if you wish next time when they send a bill.

I always send a cheque as this keeps the information on your cheque stub in date order of payment whereas using a RIB can be missed when tallying up your payments. Make sure you do not sign the tear off piece of the bill!

The first bill is for 6 months standing charge in advance
about 50.00
I set up the direct debit and was over charged on estimation
and had money replaced in my bank account very quickly when
i posted with my reading on it
I have only just had a proper reading done after 2 half years
by getting neigbour to let meter reader in
No problems

I would agree with others on the forum about paying by direct debit, EDF are really good, but a word of warning, pay first bill by cheque and give direct debit details at same time, we only sent DD details with first bill and nearly ended up getting cut off.

I have also found that by emailing or writing to EDF with Dates you will be at your home they will send technician to read the meter, I have just arrange my next meter reading for 2nd June between 10-12pm , (dont get the same service in UK)
