  1. Presumably she worries about the water in the u-bends!!
  2. We asked our neighbour exactly the same thing only last week, as the winters in Limousin can be very cold. She leaves her huge house in late October to stay with her son in Chantilly, and each year switches the water off at the main stopcock - ours is in the house under a hatch, which is handy - drains all the taps, but leaves the water heater full...I suppose it would have to be seriously cold to cause problems with that amount of water indoors. She also puts car anti-freeze down the toilets and sinks! Pete
  3. We took our Sky subscription card over to France a few weeks ago, and used it in the box over there. All the channels in our package worked fine from the off.....except for ITV2, which struck me as odd. The 'on-screen' message said 'wrong card type inserted', or something similar. Anyway....I phoned Sky to query it...not mentioning, of course, that we were in France.... I was asked to go into 'system setup' via the remote, and then to read out the box serial number from the 'system details' section. 'Ah' says the nice lady, 'we've got a different box registered, you must have your card in another one....'. 'That's right' I replied. All she did was send a signal (apparently) to the card, ITV2 started working 30 minutes later...and that was that, no awkward questions at all. Odd thing is, I expected to come home and have a similar problem, but everything works fine. Pete
  4. Hi all. Although our house is down in Correze, we sometimes have a few days in the north with friends. Our next visit is at the beginning of November, which will coincide with the first service (18000 miles) on our year old Espace diesel. The cheapest quote at home (up north, so no rip-off 'darn sarf' prices! ) was £215....bit steep for what amounts to an oil and filter change! After checking with Renault UK that a French service stamp will keep the warranty valid (it will...hurrah ), I contacted Diffusion Auto Calaisienne, who are about a mile from the Calais port. Extremely helpful indeed....and an all-in price of 159 euros!! Amazing! No more services in Blighty for us, thanks very much! Pete
  5. Thanks to all for the replies so far! We're actually at the house for a fortnight, so we've plenty of time to explore! Pete
  6. Thanks for the Oradour suggestion....that's on the 'definite' list! Hi Penny - we're near to Egletons, and don't mind a few hours in the car if there's something to see at the other end! Pete
  7. Hi all. We only bought our tiny house in Correze in May, and our second trip down there is coming up this weekend. Can anyone recommend any days out/places to visit?! We're going with my in-laws, (both of whom are very interested in history)...I know I've left it a bit late to ask, and I've no doubt that as our visits increase we'll pick up on places of interest ourselves, but any help or recommendations would be gratefully received! Pete
  8. LAST EDITED ON 19-Aug-04 AT 08:51 PM (BST) Tacho chart only required to be used if you're carrying goods 'for hire or reward'....guaranteed! Bon voyage! Pete
  9. We only became the owners last week, and the first bill's arrived in the UK already - very efficient! There's a tear-off portion with the bill, which I assume gets sent back to EDF, but with what? My bank details so that CA pays it direct? A cheque? Help! We don't want to set up a direct debit, but prefer to pay 'as and when' the bill comes. Pete
