  1. A la Chandeleur L'hiver cesse ou prend vigeur Et la fleur de février Ne va pas au pommier The days here in 24 are pleasantly longer, there are snowdrops and very early crocuses, it's cold but instead of worrying about how to get through the winter one worries about all the things one won't have time to do this winter...
  2. Most people round here make their own barn doors from wood. I understand that wood is an environmentally neutral fuel, as long as it doesn't have to be transported a significant distance. The effect of its lifetime more than cancels out the effect of its combustion.
  3. Mmm, I would have assumed that it meant standing proudly as befits someone singing the National anthem prior to battle... I don't think that there is any reflection on the manhood of the residents of Marseille, or even the indigenous population... should be interested to be corrected.
  4. I always wear specifically designed gloves and helmet but rarely put on my boots or trousers and never (well, once) the jacket as they are so heavy I can hardly walk in them, never mind work. I sometimes wear gaiters which are not heavy but don't stay put either, I put them on when I'm using the saw nearer to my feet than I would choose. I have a Dolmar, recommended to me by professionals and very reliable, as well as a small Stihl which feels like it was made for me. Stihl parts are widely available locally (24/87/19). I've met people whose lives have been saved by safety equipment but I'm the only person who has any in my locality, and I can't think of many homes without a chainsaw. Hints on sharpening would be gratefully received; I have been shown many times and go through the motions but ineffectively. There is a lot of information on Oregon's site.
  5. There is a law which forces proprietors to permit access to those whose land and buildings have no alternative access. I have heard horror stories and personally I would not want to be involved in such an arrangement from either side, nor would I trust a notaire's opinion on the matter, although some people who live their entire lives with such arrangements without grief.
  6. The same as me? CHU Dupuytren (sp?!)? The guineafowl was particularly fine. I suspect that vegetarians would have got plain boiled pasta at best; no meat in that is there? Special diet catered for.
  7. It's what the school holidays are mostly used for, shuttling the kids round parents' specialities so that they learn what they should have learned at school... those fortunate enough to have parents who consider it to be important that is. Later's method is popular round here, and some give a hand to sensible kids whose parents can't help too.
