Can I teach in collège?

I've been asked by the headteacher of our local collège to -in theory- do a maternity cover for the English teacher. However, she isn't sure, and I don't know, whether I can be employed on the basis of my English qualifications (PGCE, TEFL) or if I have to do a conversion. Is there anyone who has any experience of this please? I know she's in the best place to find out, but it is the end of term....!

If you have a degree at the appropriate level you can be taken on as a supply teacher paid hourly for a limited number of hours.

It used to be 200 in one academic year. The head may need to get clearance from the Academie, and they will probably want to see the originals and translations of your qualifications.

They are not so difficult about qualifications when they need you, but don't expect to get taken on permanently.

You might get on a list of accepted supply teachers though, espcially if you go for an interview with an inspector from the Académie.

If you do get taken on, have a look at

http://www.academie-en-ligne.fr/Matieres.aspx?MATIERE=Anglais

which will help you to prepare your lessons..
