I thought I'd already posted this, but I can't find it on the forum, so feel free to delete this if it's already out there.

The question: How much did you pay for a COC?

Citroen gave us one for free, whereas Fiat are charging 120 euro's - don't get me wrong, I'm not breaking Forum rules and saying who is good or bad, just a question... has anyone else come across this, it would be interesting to know which car manufacturere is the most expensive, and cheapest.

Mercedes must be the cheapest because all you need to do is reach into the glove compartment and take it out of the document folder. They supply one as standard amongst the documents supplied with each new car.

But do the provide it in French though?

We paid 120 Euros for our VW COC even though we did not officially need it, the sous-prefecture had not caught up to date with the current rules and considering they are the only place that dish out the carte-gris what is one to do?

Guess each dept makes up its own rules - now where have I heard that before?

MB provide it in German but comes supplied with a translation leaflet into a number of different languages. We had no problem having ours accepted at the Sous Prefecture.

About 2-3 years ago now, Peugeot 205, no charge. It had already been registered in France before being exported to UK so CofC should not have been necessary, but as Peugeot were prepared to give us one it was much easier to just go along with what the prefecture asked for.

If you are fortunate enough to live in an area with a sensible DRIRE, a prefecture that accepts attestations rather than CofC, and have a vehicle that is likely to be on DRIRE's database, then it should be better in terms of cost and aggravation to get a letter from DRIRE than one of those very expensive pieces of paper.

search the pages jaunes for your nearest DRIRE,(you can then download the necessary form) it is cheaper than going to Ford (paris) also on Pages jaunes you can do a search for Autopieces(breakers yard)....may find what you are looking for.
