ROUEN how to avoid it,

We are planning our trip to Duras at the end of the month, we arrive in Dieppe and dread the name of ROUEN, I drive and hubby navigates, and the language goes from light blue to dark blue!

Last time we were directed to a different route which avoided the rail yards, jams and  the stopping / starting-needless to say no bad language o this occaision,  and wondered if the route in the reverse direction had been opened, our last trip back to Dieppe was in mid Aug 09, we followed diversions through town and railyards, does anyone have any idea if this is now open?

I do not really find any problems with Rouen. Yes, there can be a bit of traffic at times but nothing much - on the way down normally travel through at about 09:30 on a Friday morning and on the way back at about 17:00 on a Sunday evening.

If you are arguing over navigation - get a satellite navigation unit, they are quite cheap now. Saves all the arguements PLUS if you do take a diversion because a road is closed or too busy it swiftly recalculates the route.

Surely going via Rouen is better than Paris. Now that is one city that needs a giant slab of concrete on it to be purely used as a road!!!

Try using www.googlemaps.com to plan your route better.

I had a little look on it and going via Paris theoretically adds 20 mins to your trip.

Alternatively, why not arrive at Caen or Cherbourg? Caen is a doddle to get around.

FromDieppe try :

N27 South SP Rouen

At Totes turn West oonti N29 SP Le Havre

On Yvetot By Pass turnSouth onto D131 SP Bourg Achard or Foret de Brotonne

Cross Sienne on Pont de Brotonne (now toll free)

Join A15 Direction Paris

Next Junction Take A28 SP Alencon

From A 28 :

Join A28 Direction Caen

Leave at next Junction SP Yvetot or Pont De Brotonne

At Yvetot join N29 SP Yerville then Totes

It is marginally slower if you are going up to Calais but for Diepe Ii think it should be quicker but apart from the Cows roundabout it is a more interesting drive
We are planning our trip to Duras at the end of the month, we arrive in Dieppe and dread the name of ROUEN
What time do you dock in Dieppe?

If it's in time to hit Rouen before about 8 am or after 6pm then it should be a doddle. When we used to use that route we never really had any problems but now always go via Paris. That said we always book midnight ferries both ways which means we can sail straight through Paris late evening or early morning without any problems whatsoever.

We arrive in Dieppe at about 1430hrs, we have done the route before via Rouen, but we noticed that a new road/route had been opened when we drove down in July ,much quicker and very easy, and was wondering if anyone else had used this route, and whether the other carriage way was open to traffic in the opposite direction. Newhaven is about 30minutes from us, thats why we stick to Newhaven, plus we get a comfortable nights sleep in a hotel and arrive at our home in Duras about 1300hrs the next day, plenty of time to unload the car and go shopping, makes for a more enjoyable drive .
