CeeJay Posted March 25, 2017 Share Posted March 25, 2017 I have a 12 volt 170 watt kettle which I use in my car. I now have a new car and note that the recommended wattage for use is 150. pip24 Posted March 25, 2017 Share Posted March 25, 2017 Hi CJ The ampage of a170 watt 12 volt kettle is about 14.2 amps. The ampage of a150 watt 12 volt kettle is 12.5 amp. I assume that you will be plugging into the Cigarette lighter socket. If that is the case then you need to know what the fuse rating of the socket is. If its rated at 15 you should be Ok with the old kettle but identify which fuse it is and carry a couple of spares. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
richard51 Posted March 25, 2017 Share Posted March 25, 2017 Yes pip is absolutely spot on. We had a halfords cool box that was ok in normal use using the socket in the boot.. However when we once travelled down to the house in France using the sat nav in the socket in the front socket (and possibly overfilling the box) was sufficient to blow the fuse. Fortunately we had done the journey sufficient times for it not to be too big a problem. On arriving at the house we did find a spare fuse in the fuse housing for the return journey.
