Ebola

You live in a country that has Ebola... Its spreading near you and as you have the money and ability to travel to get away from it because you are scared . You decide to fly to Paris to get yourself and family out .. You change flight and then come to London where a person asks you or requires you to tick a box on a form Yes or No to the question have you been to a country with Ebola . ...Will you answer " Yes " when you are keen to be let into the country ? How many will ? Not many IMO .. There is a nurse now ill in the USA with Ebola just because the person who arrived there and later died of it when presented with the question made a false declaration on a form .
  2.
Ah yes, the younger generation struggling to cope. But ask most of them and they have the latest mobile phones and sky high bills for them, Sky with all the channels feeding the latest smart TV. Some of them need to get their priorities right.
Very true .... As a committee member of a charity that was called upon to help out financially families that were unable to pay their service bills by social workers . I used to find on visiting some families the things you mentioned came first . I used to suggest that the monthly SKY subscription was something that they could manage without and was usually told that had to have it for the kids .

    Ebola

France it appears gets 270 tons of illegal bush meat at Paris airport each year .... So how much do they not get ? I know of a dog that when it comes to meat...Would find that lot in a search of bags in no time if they want to borrow it ! http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/10/ebola-bushmeat-risk-europe-food-safety-expert-assessment
  7.
Got the same problem with a few of our windows in the UK. Spoke to a local company and told it was a case of new double glazed panels and was very surprised at how cheap they are.
I have in the UK this problem now . My house has wooden frames all wood in the place is stained the same color so has put me off getting them replaced with plastic . I have replaced the kitchen glass that face South and got hot .They were set in brown putty . The company who supplied the new sealed glass units told me NOT to use putty Use wooden beading round them.... and use silicone . They were not expensive to replace ...Not worth trying any other method our local glass people can more or less make them while you wait .. My front ones have lead strips in a diamond pattern stuck to them so not looking forward to replacing them. House was build in 1989 I do not consider that old but perhaps it is for double glazing ?

    Ebola

From what I have read it would appear that from every person who has Ebola 2 others from contact are likely to get it so compared with other contact transmitted illnesses it does not spread that fast. I am confident that those with the skills to deal with this when they are in place will soon get on top of it .

    Ebola
JSKS What I was thinking about, rather than an impractical impromptu medical examination, is a simple face-to-face interview for people arriving in the UK from certain areas, regarding where have been in the previous few days. Not that difficult, and, using the right personnel, this could filter out people who are at risk, even though they are not even aware of it themselves.
As much as we would all like to think people would tell the truth at such an interview . It has already been shown that when it comes to Ebola contact and possible transfer people will tell lies. Especially if they thought they would not get past the controls if they mentioned they had been in an area that had it .
  10. You could not make it up could you ? I am lost for words ! http://www.thelocal.fr/20141007/calais-migrants-food-spicy-reject

Whats the name of the hotel ...is it on trip adviser ?..does that also have leaks I wonder ..
  12. So what is really going on here ? Is some person at the top giving instruction for this course of action to be taken by the bank ? Given the numbers this is happening to and that warrants publication in the press . I suspect it very well could be . If this is the case what sort of state is the banks finances in and would you want to leave your money with them ? As Val 2 wrote :Apparently by taking two lots of payment they are raking in millions and you will have to wait some weeks to get the second payment back as well. The words " bank getting desperate here " spring to my mind.
  13.
I would point out just one thing: The article is in the Daily Mail - that well known admirer of all things foreign. Is there even the remotest chance that they are going to print something favourable about anything other than the Royal Family? Which is not to say the article isn't true - even the DM can have a first.
The same comments in the DM were made on the radio this morning .BBC Today ....are they way off as well ? And if France does come to grief financially what then ... another Cyprus ?
  14. Although I have never heard of them PCH really do exist ...in the USA . and people really do win big payouts hence the scams attachment to them. http://contests.about.com/od/conttestscams/f/Are-Publishers-Clearing-House-Sweepstakes-Scams.htm
  15.
No, Frederick, some of us have to graft for our million..............well, at least the first one!
Looks like I have to continue to graft for mine Mint as this is an obvious scam if ever there was one !
  16. I have just had an email telling me my email address has just won me a $ million ... Some outfit calling themselves Publishers Clearance House They are asking for Name Address Age Sex and Telephone Number . ( not bank details although I suspect they just might if contacted ) As this Forum is connected to people in Publishing and has our email addresses ......Anybody else had one of these emails ?

  19. Such is the grip they have on who can sell what in the way of medications . I was surprised to read in a recent email from B.F . that they were pointing out they are not permitted to sell sea sickness tablets on the ships ......but .......if any passenger had a problem . With the exception of the Norman Voyager fast they now employed a nurse on board . That,s what you call power ! http://www.gulf-times.com/Mobile/UK-Europe/183/details/410482/Pharmacists,-notaries-rally-against-%E2%80%98absurd%E2%80%99-reforms
  20.
JSKS so presumably Churchill should have said 'we are quaking in our boots because of the Nazis'. Would have had a negative effect on British morale and a positive effect on German morale. Think part of IS philosophy is fear so showing any is what they want.
I think a big fat payout shown on "Wanted Dead or Alive " posters for IS leaders might just give THEM something to fear .....And be cheaper than us looking for them to bomb... I imagine knowing that a lottery win figure is on offer to those all round them would leave them wondering if they were safe and when one of their own might just take them out and go for the cash . Its been tried before and has worked
  21. Super U is cheaper than Butagas Blue Same size......It varies a bit between 20 and 23 euros depending which Super U you happen to call into as there does not appear to be a fixed price with Super U
  22.
Looks like leclerc will get our business when our SuperU start that!
You are a bit snookered when using Super U own brand gas when it comes to making a change of supplier .... I am sure Super U are well aware of it too !
  23. I have recently discovered after an upgrade to the Super U garage I use the method of changing the gas canisters there has changed when a new one is needed When asking for a new bottle I was given a key when I paid and was expected to open up an individual locker in the cage and remove the full canister and put in the empty myself .. There is also now a machine to take your money and issue a key to use when the kiosk is not manned which is a good idea . The new system is fine if you are tall strong and can lift down a heavy canister from 6 foot up .Perhaps they think we can all do with an upper body work out ......some will struggle now they are going over to "get it yourself "
  24.
Thanks again for peoples input. It appears that our original property may fall through so this one now heads a list. So the owners thinks it's asbestos, I think it maybe asbestos. It may or may not be highlighted in the diagnostic survey. It appears the only way might be for a roof survey that I pay for. As to leaving it alone, I believe by the look of it, it maybe more than 40+ years old. I think the buildings were farm outbuildings converted to domestic use many years ago. The original roof was just covered with loose tiles. Because the tiles are loose means that they move very slightly damaging the 'asbestos sheets' beneath. I think they should be replaced if 'asbestos sheets'. Anyone any idea, leaving aside the safe removal of the 'asbestos sheets', how much to renew/replace about 160 sq. mtrs. of single storey foof?
It is not that  much of a job with a single storey building to board it over and re tile  Your neighbors will soon come up with somebody who will do it for you that is local if you want to ask them ... Take your measurements to somebody like these and they will help you to cost up the materials   http://www.pointp.fr/          That will give you some idea towards cost ... Back in the spring  two guys working  from the bucket of one of those long arm fork lifts they most likely hired  got all materials up and re boarded out aand tiled  reasonable sized  building in my road in two days.   Good luck !
  25.
One of the properties we looked at had asbestos roof sheets covered by loose hip roofing tiles. Would the asbestos have been picked up in the French sellers survey? Could it have be left as is or does it need removing?
I have an outbuilding roof just as you describe . Its been there years  its had some new roof tiles  put on apart from that ....I do not touch it . There are plenty of these roofs about
