  1. Hi Idun, Care to share your recipe for your Beef pie, with a rich gravy and veg, followed by Tarte Tatin and cream? It sounds good and I need a change from the usual boring stuff
  2. I personally do not agree with the protest. Some points maybe difficult to comprehend such as the number plates but apart from making it easier for the cops and cameras it would also help the motorist to see the registration after being sideswiped by a bike weaving in and out of traffic and of course not stopping to swap notes etc. A fairly common occurrence in the larger cities. What I would like to see is a clampdown on the bl@*%y noisy mopeds, why are they allowed to get away with it? The first time I pulled that stunt with a tweaked exhaust I was nicked but that was the UK. I have nothing against bikers I was a very keen one myself up to the ‘90s, starting out when there were real bikes such as the Triton and Bonneville.

    eye test

Mr Wiggy, Understood but the Murphy you refer to is Audie Leon Murphy I think. He died 1971! If you were looking for an autograph, sorry to disappoint.

    eye test

I agree with Mr Wiggy. I have had eye tests/exams in Fr hospitals. The UK exam was far more superior and comprehensive in my opinion and that was at Vision Express, not a hospital. I also found SpecSavers very good and cheaper

    Dog tag wording

Val_2, your gipsy experience gives me great cause for concern. Losing your dog is bad enough but not knowing what actually happened to him……. We occasionally have gippos around here, observe them for a few minutes and they are normally on the lookout for what they can nick. Why are they tolerated? I expect some do-gooders say they are harmless, yes perhaps 1% Interesting bit about the central locking, must try mine.
  6. Thank you all for your information, I have just received a devis for 145€,for 6 piece, 170 m.sq DPE much cheaper than I thought, after hearing about the 580 +700€ in my op. You must ask for a devis first.
  7. Adding to Coops points you could have these checked. Worn shocks, pressures and alignment also rotate at each service. Aggressive driving style is a big cause of wear too. I think 1.6mm still stands.
  8. Re: Diagnostique thread earlier this year did not mention any prices, has anyone had a quote for DPE? FPN suggest 150-200 euros but locally, two modest 3 bed houses paid 700 and 580 euros, the latter survey taking just 1hr15. Is there a government fee included in this somewhere? If not these guys are on a nice little earner. I am waiting for a devis from two enterprises but they seem reluctant to oblige, now why is that I wonder?
  9. When in Rome........ Dog, re your: 'an object in the line of fire ensures that the wind speed can be taken out of the equation'. Ever heard of a crosswind?
  10. Thank you SD but I think the interest rates in these days would not outweigh leaving ASAP. Good point Dave, worth thinking about, thanks. As for you NickP, recalling your past comments and from someone who does hold a grudge. UP YOURS!
  11. Supposing, just supposing mind that a Brit French resident won a considerable amount on the UK Premium Bonds. This would be taxable as earnings and also put the individual into the Fr fortune tax bracket. Quite a sum to pay perhaps. If the winning cheque is not cashed until the recipient legs it back to the UK and reinstates as a UK resident, would this be void of Fr tax? No PM begging letters please, it hasn’t happened yet but I’m feeling lucky.
  12. Not something I like, but I am in France and have to accept the national habits. Apart from killing a few weeds I expect their excuse is that there is nowhere to go. Fr public toilets are few and far between and are mainly pretty disgusting. Saw a bloke recently ‘washing’ a lamppost whilst walking along with my granddaughter, if he had turned around during his relief, could I make a citizens arrest for public flashing? I just wish he had gone another 300 meters and peed on my electrified fence.
  13. But Idun, with those ‘extra’ ingredients it would add a bit of personal Idun-zing, don’t you think?
  14. For Idun's recipe, make sure it includes bananas and crisps
  15. crossy67 wrote: ‘my concentration when pootling round is not what it is when I am driving faster.’ ---------------------------------------------- WHAT! Your concentration should always be 100% whatever your speed. Also I suggest that you view the clip again and review your comments.
  16. Idun wrote 'Audio, didn't you mean Jilly Cooper, not Patricia Cornwell' No. From The Telegraph: ‘her new life is transforming her forensically gory novels’
  17. Cor blimey Wooly! Patricia Cornwell would be proud of that in her next book
  18. Bugsy wrote: ‘Yes I wonder why as well.’ Are you suggesting that if that cop had not been wearing his high vis jacket the accident would not have occurred? Still waiting for the ever intriguing number plate bit.
  19. Russethouse, You could ask the ferry company to put you on a wait/standby list in case of any cancellations. Reclining seats can be noisy with crying babies or kids running around, not to mention the heavy snoring from the bloke next to you. Like you I prefer a cabin.
  20. ‘Making riders wear day-glo vests will have no effect on safety whatsoever’. Wonder why the UK speed cops (bikers) wear them? ‘You wouldn't understand if I tried to explain that one so I won't bother’. Rather condescending of you. Apart from probably taking a hacksaw to your bike to fit the plate, what is all the fuss about?
  21. ‘now give me that red-hot poker approach' I remember an extremely militant union leader using the same phrase, was it you? Your protest as I understand includes road safety proposals, what’s wrong with that? Bikers can be difficult to see, so reflective jackets can only help, oh I see, they will spoil jazzed up leathers. As for the larger number plates, more wind resistance perhaps but it may enable more of the Jorge Lorenzo wannabes to be nicked.
  22. ‘To know what the protest is about’? In most cases achieving very little apart from costing the taxpayer and inconveniencing the ordinary bloke in the street.
  23. I have never known Brittany Ferries to offer a good deal of late. Add up all the bits and pieces e.g. mandatory cabins for overnight crossings for the real price, is it still £175?
  24. Start to worry when you climb and swing on trees like a monkey
  25. Sorry to have picked this thread up late but in answer to your OP from what I remember from my meteorology studies you need to find an area of the least temperature change e.g. close to the equator, or islands such as Hawaii or the Azores. If your looking at just France, I don’t think your needs will be satisfied, there are too many frontal systems passing through. Best talk to a professional met man, they can normally be approached at airports and ports.
