1. And what does nice blameless hamas do, they start to fire a few more missiles today. I hope that the IDF retaliate in a apropriate way ie bomb the crap out of them and all their sideline supporters.
2. It is not only the british pensioner who is losing out over the diminishing pound. Spare a thought for the poor old premiership player from the euro zone. His £100,000 per week from Manu or where ever was worth €150,000 not too long ago and now it's only worth a staggering €110,000 thats a  loss of €40,000 every single week.
3. Are we into Ugandan discussions now?
4. Thats your view  which I respect. But I do think that as you all feel strongly you should cut the jaw jaw and do your bit for the terrorist cause of which you seem so supportive. Off to bed now it's all a bit boring.
5.
You mean you are not completely au fait with how Israel got its independent status?  Shame on you JMB.  I'm sure Frederick will enlighten you....
Yes but they got it and now they will do their best to keep it. I really hope that they leave a unforgetable footprint on gaza, one that the terrorists and those that protect and shelter them will remember for the rest of their lives.
6. So what. There are always winners and losers.
7.
Just ignore him, smells rather Trolly, otherwise noone could say such things.
Of course Ms animal anything that smacks of the truth, is kind of unacceptable to the sort of person who supports terrorist activity. Why don,t you visit Israel and see what it is like to be on the receiving end of a terrorist rocket.
8. Well woolyperson why aren't you out there giving some back up. There is a lot of talk but no action. But then you may not have the backbone for that sort of thing. Talking and doing are miles apart.
9. Well ron. If you feel so strongly why don't you get out there and join the Hamas freedom fighters or don't you have the that sort of commitment.
10. Of course this little fracas could benifit all you guys gals with uk pension funds.Uk companies exported a credit crunch busting £18,847,795 worth of military hardware to Israel in the last 3 months of 2008. Thats compared with £7,500,000 for the whole of 2007. So I suppose that a bit of all your pensions are invested in stalwarts like BaE so a lot of you may be doing very well thank you out of the popping of a few Hamas supporters.
11. What would you do if your neighbour started to throw rocks over the fence at you. Would you stand still and let the rocks do their damage or would you hit your neighbour with a large heavy rock and break the neighbours arms to prevent them throwing rocks at you?
12. Not for long. SuperGord is bringing in Robbie Mugabe, as head of the BoE to oversee "quantitative easing" aka printing loads of dosh. He has the experiance to pull it off.
13. Ee bah gum aren't you a lucky lot getting a 10% pay rise this week. I could only manage 8%.
14. Try here http://www.retroassur.com/carte_grise_collection.php  have a look att the insurance section you can get some idea of price on the site.
15.

I bet u all wish yyoou had been bankers and drawn those super fat bonuses. .
Not so sure about that JMB. Some people have a sense of ethics, want to be able to live with themselves, and realise that nothing happens in isolation.
Sorry but you can't eat ethics. If I tried to pay my employees in ethics they would not be very happy. You must have had a sheltered life if you think that the world is brimming with ethics.
16.   Bugsy.People have to learn self reliance and self discipline. There are too many people relying on the nanny state to get them out of trouble. I have been in business for a very long time and the one thing I have learned is that the only person to rely on in times of stress is me.
17. I bet you all wish you had been bankers and drawn those super fat bonuses. Then you wouldn't have to worry about falling pounds.
18. Bugsey. Are you trying to tell us that people who get over their heads in credit are not responsible for it, it is the bankers fault for lending and they should have protected the poor little things from themselves.
19.   Er I don't think anyone was referring to physical accidents which hit people. This thread is about people getting themselves into the financial mire by not planning there emigration properly, and trying to live in a western industrial country on 50p a month. There is a category on this forum about saving money on living expenses. Now I think that is negative and we all should be thinking of making a lot more money instead of trying to live wrapped in a blanket or whatever to try to save it. If people want to live cheaply then they should go and live in a mud hut in some god forsaken village in Bangladesh where the gdp is 50p per month.
20.

Ha ha bugsey wait until €1= 80 "great british" pence then who will look a bit shall we say poor. By the way I thought it was a bit on the naughty side to do personal attacks on here.
I think that we, the ones who live here in France full time and who don't have a 'bolt hole' house in the U.K., would LOVE to see the € at 80 great British (British has a capital B me thinks) pence, but would not like to see the great British £ at 80 centimes! Am I correct at thinking the collective name for those in the banking trade is a 'Wunch' Buggsy? 5E, you should know that a forward view of hindsight is a treasure to have?
Eeh ba gum jonz a slip of the keybord.
21.   Ok. What I wanted to say in my first post was that we should not be beaten down by the press. It's a difficult time for some people but for others there is a window of opportunity. Please try to be positive about the future look forward and try to see this as a challenge.

23.

It appears to me that most of the problems for expats are that they have retired and moved to France with an inadequate income that is tied to a different currency. Over the 23 years I have lived in Europe I have seen some pretty wild currency swings and taken a few nasty knocks and had a few nice gains. If you choose to try to live in a country with a different currency to your income then you should allow a reasonably margin to allow for fluctuations. You have to learn to take the knocks, that’s one of the reasons I am glad we were made to box at school, and not adopt that very socialist attitude of blaming someone else and expecting to be rescued. So Bugsey you do carry some of the responsibility for your predicament so you have to find a way of dealing with it until the next cycle of a strong "great British pound" comes around. If indeed it ever does
[:D][:D][:D] What a load of condescending twaddle............................[:@] I, personally, have never asked for, or expected to be , in your words, rescued so I'm not sure how you have arrived at that conclusion. We will survive, as we have always done, by honest hard work and no handouts. That doesn't prevent me from expressing my views on the greed, cheating and corruption of the few, that has brought about this latest situation. The  "I'm alright jack" attitude you are trying (badly) to express would be quite funny if the situation many now find themselves wasn't so serious. The day I really look forward to is the day when people, like you,  who sit in their ivory towers looking down on others, get their true comeuppance. Have a nice day.............................. Honest hard work won't get you very far
