  1. "I think"??? "The COVID death rate in England 2.5 times that of Ireland" Might just be something to do with population figures, England has 10 times the amount of people.
  2. Interesting stats Norman but I suppose that the big problem now is the number of people in intensive care and those needing hospital attention.
  3. In today's world I include all media, they only want to report or make up bad news. So to answer your question Norman yes I do. By the way, it is usually common courtesy when quoting somebody to use the whole quote. I'm sure of course you know that and that in your haste to get your message across it slipped your mind. LOL Stay safe.
  4. Good to see political point-scoring being made out of a world crisis. NOT.
  5. Take into account that the UK is a small country territory wise and a large population. Have a look at the figures in the Netherlands, once again a relatively small country, just under one third the population of the UK one-third of the deaths of the UK. The French site you quote has no reason to knock the UK.government, the Guardian does, and constantly reports anything it can to undermine the present government. Years ago they would have been fifth columnists, in fact they have taken over from the blackshirt daily Mail of the thirties.

    Bin Day

Well, mint, I did try something similar, but as I rode my bike down the chateau driveway I caught my high heels in the pedal straps and fell off. So tomorrow it's back to the Lycra. Sorry about no pictures, but I can't work out how to add pics.
  7. More Guardian propaganda doing its usual job, which is anything to knock and accuse the government.
  8. What, like when he declared when he was the head of the CPS that Savile had no case to answer, Yur 'aving a giraffe.
  9. We made the decision to stay in France as in our tiny village it's not difficult to be in isolation. Biggest problem apart from the bathroom that I mentioned earlier, is the fact that we were starting the process of taking residency here in France, so that's all out of the window at the moment. I go for my walk every morning and apart from one or two people who tap on their window and wave as I go past, nothing has really changed. Yesterday my wife said: "I don't know whether to go shopping Thursday or Friday" I replied make it Friday as Thursday is Bin day and too much excitement on one day wouldn't be good. One little job we have acquired is that the only other Brits in our village went back to the UK for family reasons and now can't get back, so we are in the process of shutting their house down for the time being.Stay safe everybody.
  10. Not perfect but a reasonably good reference, thanks Norman. As said, you can add information that if correct of course, will help it.
  11. I have seen that but it still makes me laugh. Humour is very important in these difficult times.
  12. Day 9 of lockdown and its dustbin day, I'm so excited I don't know what to wear when I put the bins out.

    Dead

As usual, it's very quiet in our village, so I started to clean up the garden and managed to cut most of the grass but with this bitterly cold wind yesterday and today we've decided to stay indoors. Lots of other people worse off, an English couple we know who have a holiday home near us and were waiting to apply for residency went back to Engand to sort out some legal things now can't get back so have had to ask me to shut their house down. Our son who lives and works in Thailand was going to Burma next week to do a return trip to get his visa restamped, yesterday Burma shut the borders. He rang this morning and said as Thailand had today shut down all flights out of the country he was going to immigration tomorrow and hopefully get an overstay permit. What a mess it is everywhere. We also are in the process of applying for residency in France, so what will happen to all that now is up in the air. At least we are happy to be in the countryside with lots of fresh air and no crowds. Thank goodness for Skype and WhatsApp at least we can see the Grandchildren.
  14. With a wonderful sense of timing last week I ripped out the upstairs bathroom with the intention of installing a walk-in shower, new sinks and radiator etc. A tiler visited and talked through his side of the project, we then went to Leroy merlin ordered all the necessary equipment and the very nice guy in there said it would start to be available next week. Well, next week turned out to be lockdown week, I did say to her indoors I could rig a hose pipe up to the bath that was now in the garden, she wasn't impressed. Fortunately, we do have another shower room so personel hygene shouldn't be too much of problem.
  15. The Parisiens have descended on our area dumping their kids on their grandparents and emptying our local supermarkets.
  16. Mint wrote: Our grandparents might have used cut-up squares of newspaper but did they have a French fosse? Do as they do, or used to do in Greece not so many years ago, put the paper into a bin. We always used squares of newspaper during the war but we did have main drains.
  17. ALBF wrote: I CAN'T BELIEVE people are talking about travelling to France or building new showers. FFS Why the profanity plus why wouldn't I build a new shower? Maybe you don't bother to wash; after all you are a little bit french as you constantly tell us. If you'd like to discuss this I'd be very willing to meet you next time I'm in Tours to pick up my new bathroom LOL
  18. Perfect timing, I ripped out the upstairs bath and shower, went to Leroy ordered all the necessary new equipment to build a walk-in shower, ordered new taps, sink unit etc. They said most will be available in a weeks time the shower glass a little longer. The tiler visited yesterday to work out the work to be done, we planned to choose tiles tomorrow. Turned on the Tele to be told all the shops etc. closed. Luckily we still have another shower room. The good news is the tobacconists are still open, so maybe I should take up smoking? LOL
  19. I wondered about that, it has happened a couple of times lately. OK occasionally a newcomer picks up on an old thread, but some of the posts are just random and the last posts were a few years old. still, as you say Idun good to get the memory jogged
  20. I see where you're coming from Paul, I also looked at BIP & go, the charges are the same as Area but you have to pay a 10 Euro joining fee and 6 Euro delivery. So me being mean with cash, verified by her who must be obeyed, LOL I'll stick with Area and see how it goes, they offer the same benefits including Spain, Portugal, plus Car Parks.
  21. Yep, Spring is on the way, the flood is slowly disappearing and the Daffodils are blooming, except this year we seem to have a lot of "blind" ones. Should I leave them in the ground and hope they come back or are they finished, what do you think?
