Well yes...the gloomier of you offered survival ...at best. The house has been transformed with the assistance of an architect and a good team of artisans....the interior looks great and matches the granduer of this fine Girondine property...now embracing relaxation to the full sense of the word.We have everything organised including a restaurant liscence.......We opened in August and have had really nice clients from many countries...we are still receiving guests. We have a website......lots of visits from old frinds and plenty of social activities shared with new friends.

Buying a restaurant - too good to be true?
jon replied to Viv's topic in Hotel and Restaurant Owners
Thanks for the translation of Cap. Should have watched the programme mentioned. My first restaurant was vegetarian....was one of the first...then we had a vegan restaurant.Very challenging and loved working hard. There is no choise in the restaurant buisness..........you have to work really hard to make it happen. Many of my friends and collegues/associates are still in London and greater London doing their thing...some have young families and others have an empire which they have built and have become celebreties. It has been my dream to venture outside the enviroment of ever busy London and live and work in my country house..creating a refuge away from city life. All this begins next week........I hope!!!!!!! -

jon replied to needhelp's topic in South West (Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées)
You must be a cat lover! We have just signed our first contract and will be in France.....not far from Libourne..St Emillion and looking for a name for our property ..DOMAINE Miaou could be an appropriate title....we love cats...and, I think have have a kitten waiting to move in. We ARE INTERESTED TO HEAR FROM people living near our area who have interest in music...modern Jazz...Flamenco...and John Mayall/Eric Clapton/Peter Green in their early days. Also we are interested in modern art and sculture and holistic remedies...reiki...reflexology. We are organising courses...for next summer. Our facilities include a large garden..nearby river and reception/entertaining areas which we will cater to a very high standard. We are open to ideas ...so let us know if you are a teacher of art, music or a practitioner. -

Moggie....We are off in a couple of weeks to 33 near to ST EMILLION....to live. We live in London...on a main road!It has become crazy...so busy...so dirty...and so sad. I am so dissapointed in how London has become and feel sorry for those people who have not realised the extent of the change. It is not going to be easy for us in France....we will miss our friends...although some of them have drifted off to other lands. But we will have a beautiful garden and a happy place for furry friends....we love cats..... good luck. -

jon replied to moggie's topic in South West (Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées)
What is missing in London.....one of the things ....is community spirit. We have just come back from where we are purchasing...and I probably have spoken with half of the village and have made a friend or two.Found a sick kitten...I hope he will regain his health and have a full and happy life....with us. It may take time to settle into country life style but London is too full ...and too full of lots of things which I have no admiration for. -
Where did you move to in SW France
jon replied to thelimetree's topic in South West (Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées)

Thought that I would get in touch...we are cat lovers.....we have not moved into our house yet.....will be end of Jan....moving to the area Nov 13th.We are to be in Gensac...maybe 20 mins from you.My e mail address is [email protected]. I am Barbara. We found ourselves driving out off Duras ...in the wrong direction and came across Prune Village a commune for Buddist Nuns.We were invited into have a look at their world.....it was both interesting and enlightening. The concept of living for the day is sesable...but not so easy to achieve. -
