  1. Thanks to all for your help. In the end we used Staysure, for a price we didn't think was too bad considering all my health issues and recently OH too.
  2. Our daughter is just completing her third year at Mirail in Toulouse, doing a translation course with law, history, economics, business studies, French, English and Chinese. If you PM me your email address and any questions you have I will ask her to reply to your questions, as she's the best one to ask. Hope that might help.
  3. If anyone travels to countries outside of the EU what health/travel insurance do you use? Both myself and OH have some health issues so appreciate it might be expensive, but don't know who to use or try. Our residence is France so I think that rules out UK companies.
  4. Apologies for confusion. Box 6EL we've just done our return for this year.
  5. We've been invited to a neighbours wedding next week, at the Mairie. What is the general etiquette? Do we dress smart but casual? OH wants to know if his suit and tie is too formal? What is the usual dress? Do we throw confetti? Are presents the norm? We've been asked to take photos of the occasion, which I think is nice (to be asked). Any info on what generally happens at a French wedding is much appreciated.
  6. We declare for our daughter, the unjustifiable amount for last year (2014) was 3403, im trying to find out if it is more or less this year. Can't seem to find the information. You put it in box AO1 of the blue form. You might have a different circumstance as in justifiable (we never thought it was worth the hassle) so your declaration might be different. Good luck.
  7. This is something I've never done before but some French friends have asked me to create the English version. I've looked at a website called WIX and it appears quite easy. My main question is : if I want to describe the region, is it ok to put a "click here" link to the tourist office, so that I don't have to type it all out again? Not sure if this is allowed. I am aware that I must rewrite what I want to put on the new website, don't want to plagarise. Many thanks I appreciate any help.
  8. It was an email confirmation that was sent to my orange email. It had lots of
  9. I made a booking with booking.com. In the confirmation email there were several links in brackets to open a png document. However, how do I open these as normally when you hover the mouse over a link it usually shows highlighted text to open the document but in this case it doesn't. TBH the email wasn't very professional so I'm having doubts about the hotel anyway, fortunately haven't paid anything yet so can cancel - even this isn't clear how to cancel. Many thanks
  10. When we moved from one department to another, we also tried with CA to transfer our account to the new department... it was like changing planets!! In the end we kept the old account but opened up a new account locally, thanks to the internet it's easy to do transactions between the two accounts.
  11. We had a letter asking us to pay the December payment by cheque rather than by prelevement which we did. However, we're still waiting for the statement that shows next year's premium according to salary.
  12. Thank you Hyacinth for your confirmation of what I already knew and stated, and the link for diabetes uk. It couldn't be much clearer than that. Just wish some forum members who treat you like an idiot would think twice before being patronising!
  13. Nor do I wish to poison but, when it keeps you awake at night knawing, scratching and moving it is a nuisance. I will try the mothballs and diesel smells to see if that helps, whatever it is.
  14. Thank you for the useful comments. I am in touch with my Diabetic Consultant and waiting to see what she comes up with. I have an insulin pump, and when refilling the cartridge every 3 days why would they advise on removing the insulin FROM THE FRIDGE for a couple of hours before refilling the cartridge? I'll leave it at that as I've obviously been advised differently to others.
  15. Contrary to what a couple of you are saying, I have always been told that except for the insulin pen you are currently using, the unused insulin must be kept refrigerated. I have no idea what "list" the EDF woman told me, hence the reason for asking the question here.
  16. I sympathise. We've had problems with scratching and knawing in cavity walls, also plasterboard. Like you we can't get to it/them. We presumed it was mice as we have caught some in traps in the kitchen cupboards. The electric plug in thing does not work and I also get up and bang on the walls to try and frighten it off. We made sure we sealed off any form of exit/entry to the house and yet we are still plagued. It's so annoying and definitely disturbs the sleep. We have no idea what it is but if a creature trapped inside the wall how long do they live without food, or is it surviving on plasterboard and insulation? I read that mice actually can survive without water for their lifetime!
  17. As a diabetic of long standing, my insulin is always in the fridge. Yesterday our power went off at around 08.30 and was not restored until 10.30 this morning. During one of my phone calls to EDF to ask what was happening, I mentioned that I needed to keep insulin cold in the fridge. The lady I spoke to said that if my doctor wrote to them to explain this then if a power cut should happen again then I would be on a special list to make sure I had a cold fridge. She didn't know what medication falls into this category so my question is, does anyone on the forum know? Many thanks
  18. We filled in our yearly form but are still waiting to hear what next year's payments will be. If I remember correctly the December prelevement last year ended up not being taken until March then another payment went out in April to catch up.
  19. We have a flag pole and 2 weeks ago flew the tricolour at half mast. We also have a St Georges flag and a union jack. Each is put out as a mark of respect depending on the occasion.
  20. Had them knock tonight, don't think they've ever been this early. Anyone else been visited yet?
  21. Last week we had a freak thunder storm. We had to call out an electrician and he discovered the parafoudre had been struck by lightening, when he removed it it was burnt out. We're hoping our insurance will cover it. Had we not have had the parafoudre he told us that all the other fuses would have blown, replacing the entire junction box would cost much more.
  22. Great news and here's hoping for continued progress. Best wishes to both you and Mrs G
  23. Thanks to all for advice. Will have to wait for OHs return from work but will give him your suggestions. BTW the ballon is supposed to be a de-calc one, should it still need to be de-furred, if so, how?
