1. And the fact is that Tony is not on trial, the driver is. What a god damn awful mess the whole thing is. I DO think that in these circumstances, 3 years is a disgustingly long time to bring it to trial. It has no regard for the suffering and emotions of all involved.
2. Tony, hindsight is great. I can't imagine what emotions you have been through. I know plenty of people who have left parties we have held or attended. I can only think of two occasions when I have insisted on taxis, and on both occasions they were more than twice the limit in my opinion.
3. Without knowing the full details it is difficult to comment Ernie, except to say that in most circumstances, the driver is already suffering a life sentence of guilt (I hope). A long custodial sentence in these circumstances may be right, but also possibly results in more emotional damage for all those related to the incident.
4.
I would love to see proportional representation: if the politicians were busy fighting each other they would not have time to bring in thousands of bossy, nannying new laws. Society needs some form of protection against politicians.
Unfortunately, the example set by proportional representation countries is that minority partners to the coalition manage to get 'bossy, nannying new laws' passed as part of their bargaining power. The smallest partner is usually the one that holds the balance of power in proportional represented governments, and that is why they fail so regularly.

Blood pressure

I am a diabetic, so mine is tested every few months, averaging 120/75. Apparently blood pressure measurements are only really useful if a series of measurements are taken.
6.
A public pool is any pool which is used by more than one family not including private houses , Chrish
Hi, we do not 'let' at present. However, if we let our property, which is a single dwelling, do these rules apply? Sorry, but I can't quite decide what the correct interpretation is. By the way, we have a saltwater pool, but why on earth are these no acceptable? Is it something to do with chlorine production efficiency? Giles
7. The problem is that regardless of political orientation, to vote anything other than the two main parties would mean proportional representation. God help us if we go down that route. Voting green is pointless in my opinion.
8. NormanH, in your own way, you are just as infuriating as Jon was. Why do you always play the Victor Meldrew card? are you really like that in real life? or just in the anonimity of these posts. Yes I know I spelt anonimity and spelt wrong because they are undarlined!
9. no more than he is supposed to have done !
10. devastating news update - it was just a rumour
11. Sweeping the markets now - GBP down at 1.1450 personally i would have thought GBP would appreciate on that news.
12. Thanks, again very useful. What is the best way of measuring CYA? Where would the CYA come from when using saltwater chlorination? I don't think the pool was shocked when opened up this spring. The poolman just dumped a load of salt in the pool (100kg) and let the filter run on full for 3 days. He used some anti-algae solution but that was it.
13. The Striped Hawk-moth (Hyles livornica) is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is found in Africa, Southern Europe and Central and East Asia and especially from the USA where it is often called the pink and stripped hummingbird hawk moth. When migrating from the USA, it hitches a ride on the back of flamingos, and jumps from the flamingo's backs as the flamingos pass over Bordeaux on their way to the Carmargue. The wingspan is 60-80 mm. The moth flies from February to October depending on the location. The larvae feed on Galium, Gossypium and Rumex. [:P][:D][:)]
14. They are amazing. They seem to be far more agressive than normal grass snakes (though still not in the least dangerous). I was fortunate enough to see two fighting by a water pool once.
15. I am interested to know the answer to this, but as far as I know, there is no way to export information from your sky box to an external source. Primarily I guess due to copyright on recorded Box Office films etc .Hopefully someone will tell me I am wrong.
16. Sterling got crushed as having one of the worst exposures to the credit cruch/banking crisis. The numbers coming through in recent weeks across the globe suggest that the rates of decline are moderating and that low or zero interest rate policies, and fiscal expansion are having some effect. Almost all manufacturing numbers are also improving. Given Sterling got hit hard when the economic situation was tail-spinning, it is right that as economic numbers improve that Sterling should gain back some value against the EURO that it lost last year. Most investors are currently making the assumption that we will have a double dip recession. That is, that after this improvement phase petres out, we will have another dip in economic activity until the economies finally make a more self-sustained recovery. On this basis we could see further GBP strength, but this may not prove long lasting.
17. Hi Andrew, Thanks, this is very helpful. The pool is covered when not in use and at night, but I think we have been sold a system that doesn't easily meet the intermittent demands we make on the pool. To compensate for that, I think it will be necessary to add chlorine during hot weather and when people loads are high. I will check the CYN levels next time I am there, and also move the PH range to 7.2/7.6 Is their chart misleading? They say that chlorine production efficiency drops from 80% at PH7 to 20% at PH8 ? Lastly, I guess the addition of chlorine has no material effect on any part of the pool system other than support the chlorinator to keep chlorine levels up? Thanks  Giles
18. Jon, I think sometimes responses can be a bit terse. All I would say though, is that everyone is entitled to express their opinion. However, the more you bang on beating the same drum, the less credibility you will have. People get bored. There is a saying 'less is more' which I think is apt here.
19. Oh dear I'm wrong, not that it should be a surprise coming up against Chris! Striped Hawk-moth look down the page, there is a stunning picture of one.
20. not so sure, Margaret's moth has red on the wings pink and striped hummingbird moth apparently  humingbird moths are actually  humming bird hawk moths, so all same family.
21. Hummingbird moth I think... pop hummingbird moth in to google images. You might have recognised it more if you had seen it flying
22. Hi Saltwater pool 10m x 5m, average depth is around 1.5m I have a Poolsquad (95 I think) salt water chlorinator by pool-technolgie. I bought it new last year. I heat the pool with a pompe a chaleur. This week the pool water hit 28c. We had 4 adults taking an occasional dip, and 4 children in the pool much of the day. The poolsquad was on boost, PH7 and 4.3kg m3, and yet we failed to get more than a very very faint registration of chlorine when testing. I know the unit is working because we made the mistake of leaving the pool for 3 weeks on 80% production with no heating (so water was circa 21/22c) and pool cover, and for the first couple of days we had to turn production off to bring the chlorine levels down to acceptbale levels. The pool is crystal clear. My question is 1. is it fair to expect the chlorinator to get chlorine levels back up overnight with pool cover on ,and pool temp at 27/28c and 2. What kind of shock treatment is best for this setup/useage for the next time we are at the house, and what quantities. 3. Do you have any idea what I should leave the Poolsquad production at while we are away to avoid the excessive chlorine buildup whie we are away. many thanks
23. Unlikely to be an eel. They are primarily nocternal, and they would only normally venture out of the water when the ground was damp, and at night if at all. More likely a grass snake of some kind.
24. common redstart http://didier.collin.oiseaux.net/rougequeue.a.front.blanc.4.html#monde   stonechat ?
25. http://www.oiseaux.net/birds/france.html I am sure you will have seen this website, but it has a huge amount of pictures of each bird for you to look at. Subalpine warbler? http://www.oiseaux.net/birds/photos/subalpine.warbler.html or it could be a Chaffinch, but the beak on your picture doesnt look short enough? We have one that sits at the very top of our pine tree making a hell of a racket all day long. Quite a nice song until you have heard it for the eighth hour in a row.....
