  1. Cant stand the pressure -the strike is likely to be prolonged so - cancelled the train and hired a car to drive to CDG and booked in at the Ibis Hotel for 2 nights. Hopefully we can sight see Paris each day before departure on Friday. At least the departure lounge is within walking distance! Bon Voyage.
  2. Thanks Will,  great information link which hopefully will be updated daily. Nervous time as we plan our departure from France for the winter season. Bon Voyage we hope!!!
  3. Hi Does anyone have an update or access to detail on the industrial action program planned for the rail system around France during the next 7 days? In particular to Paris from Brive. Thanks
  4. Also change the locks! Who knows how many copies over the years and who holds them!
  5. Thank you Cathy- nice to be informed. We shall keep our fingers crossed and wont panic-well not yet!! Regards
  6. Hi, What strike? We depart 20 November and are planning an overnight in Paris also! Aaargh!
  7. Come on you guys lets stick to metric units in this country. Despite the fact that the UK was originally projected for conversion to metric by1978 and has since been delayed a number of times, there is no excuse for non conversing using the brain matter.    Metrication was a precondition of the UK's membership of the European Economic Community (now the European Union) in 1973. Why do you persist in using this outdated mode of  measurement/
  8. For those who enjoy exchanging viewpoints 'for or against' Ryan Airways may enjoy this thread:- www.airlinequality.com/forum/ryan.htm Bon Voyage
  9. Don't you guys ever sleep?  Night Owls!!! Anybody know where to buy pontefract cakes? Why aren't you watching the rugby?
  10. Thanks for the info. Note to myself:  'add to the 'outgoings' side of the ledger'!!
  11. Phil, Any advice on the insurance aspect when the 'new build' requires a number of trades people and the Archetect offers to act as the project manager. There is no principal trades person, unless it is defined by their proportion of the work of the total cost, but I can't imagine them carrying the insurance cost of other trades people? Thanks
  12. Any news on the 'paying' car parking arrangements at Limoges Airport. Is it operational yet (planned for September?) and if so what are the weekly/daily/hourly charges? Not tooo expensive I hope. Thanks P.S. Do you think Ryan*** will discount with a voucher!!!!!
  13. What ever happened to the proposal/agreement/BAA policy etc that advertised airfares will be all inclusive, ie including taxes/fees/charges etc.. Ryan***** are still "enticing/seducing" unwary travellers with 0.01 euro tickets. Total cost 38 euros!!! Bemused!!
  14. Pickles may I query your statement that "2 consecutive years of tax residency is required" to avoid CGT  on a declared primary property. I undestood from my Notaire that only 1 year's Tax return was necessary!!!!.- or did I miss a point of order? The rest of your references are excellent. Thank you
  15. I found myself in discussion with friends recently, who had had a meeting with their Notaire regarding the 'restoration of a ruin'. Their project not mine.  It was understood that: if a restored property ie. one that commenced as uninhabitable ( not a renovated property - habitable but with improvements) is sold within 5 years  TVA @19.6% is assessed on the sale price. The 5 years are deemed to commence from a dated 'completion of works' certificate issued by the Marie. This is fully payable in addition to any  'plus value' should the property be a maison secondaire (less the value of the TVA of paid factures from registered artisans/companies for the cost of the work undertaken)  the TVA on the sale  is not applicable after 5 years of ownership ( but the TVA on the factures can still be claimed) 'plus value' on a maison secondaire reduces by 10% of the deemed 'plus-value' ( depending on tax residency) per year after the 5 years of ownership.  Have they understood correctly? Does anyone have an experience or knowledge of this piece of legislation?  Many thanks.
  16. We have unlimited ADSL from Orange.fr for a cost of 24.90 Euro+TVA per month with no Contract. We holiday here each year. We close the service on departure and re activate on return. By post, they supply a new e mail address and 'mot de passe'. You need a telephone line of course, and again we place this service in suspension on departure and re activate by a phone call prior to arrival. You can keep the same telephone number this way. There is a small monthly charge whilst the telephone number is in suspension, and a reconnection charge of 15 Euros applies. They will need your French  bank account details for direct debit. If you want further information, there is an English speaking French Telecom helpline on 08 00 36 47 75 or from overseas 00 33 155 78 60 5 6, with few operators so be patient. They will help you to put your phone number in to 'tele supendu'on departure and resurrect it on your return. They will also help you resurrect an ADSL service each time you return. You just call them to cancel your ADSL service when you leave. Bon Chance!
  17. Sorry Leo. I originally posted in the 'Technical Support' section of the Forum. A friend advised this section was for support of the Forum and the post should appear in the TV, Internet, Telephone etc. section. I re-posted and tried to delete the original posting, but was not allowed as someone had already replied.  Sorry
  18. No not exactly! we are using our OZ e mail account as  'default' on the Orange.fr ISP.
  19. On return to France this year (maison secondaire) we were abliged to switch from Wanadoo to Orange as a local ISP. Much to our dismay Orange.fr is a banned ISP by Telecom, (Bigpond) Australia. I quote from a Bigpond representative  "Orange.fr  are actually blacklisted by TrendMicro's MAPS RBL+ and QIL databases. These are reputation based  blocklists and are used by Bigpond as our primary anti spam defence. Orange.fr  have a particularly bad global record of supporting and hosting spammers and as such their mail servers are almost constantly blacklisted as one or more spammers use them to deliver millions of garbage emails. You have probably picked the worst ISP in Europe to deal with except for the Russians". Users beware!

Thank's Chris for the Link, very reassuring.  I will leave the nest/hive well alone and let them get on with their lives - as free boarders - not even a pot of honey!. regards

    hornets

This is an old thread but I an hoping it is still current. A visit today into the grenier reveals a large hornets nest/hive, the size of a football, still in the making and very active. What to do? The grenier is no more than a storage area. No children, and I am the only one to access the area. Do these critters hybernate for winter or move on ( I read a recent thread that they do not nest in the same area twice??) Should I leave the hive undisturbed or have it removed? Your help and advice please.
  23. Thank you for your information. I am amazed 'la Poste' only offers air mail. Whilst I assume the French ship goods around the World, surface mail is not available. We live in the Dordogne and would appreciate the location of these alternate shipping companies. I can only assume you had/have a contract with these Companies and the rates quoted are Business rates. Thanks
