1. For those interested, there is a program on BBC1 tonight (Sunday 23rd May) at 10.25 pm UK time about the Stones in exile in 1972, followed at 11.30 by another hour of them in concert. Set those recorders !!!!! [:)]
 2.
Mandy said to be distraught at having to leave his friends behind.
I am sure he will find a new friends behind !!!!!!! [Www]
 3.
So, let the BNP have their 6 seats.  That doesn't frighten me!  Let them set out their agenda and let them be heard.  That's what a democracy is all about and the people will decide, non? Do you remember back in the Thatcher days when thevoices of the likes of Martin McGuiness and Gerry Adams were never allowed to be publicly aired? I wished they'd let them be broadcast and heard:  people, including Sinn Fein sympathisers, could have then heard their ugly accents expressing their ugly sentiments and been repulsed in droves. No, I am definitely not afraid of bigots and evildoers being given a public platform.  My policy is:  give them enough rope..........
Thing is, like them or not, Sinn Fein are now BIG players in NI. Who says violence gets you nowhere?????
 4.
I heard Blunkett on the radio just now; making a lot os sense, and also said they can't possibly make a Lab/Lib Dem grouping work.
David Blunkett, was he the blind man who Labour put in charge of immigration ?????  [I]
 5.

Bet those who voted UKIP and BNP are gutted, I mean it was a lost vote from the start. [:P]
Quite agree, bit like voting for Nick Clegg.
In view of the fact that the Prime Minister (current) and Leader of the Opposition (current) are both actively seeking dialogue with the leader of the Liberal Democrats I don't think that this is an accurate appreciation of the value of LibDem votes.
No, it was a wasted vote, anyone who voted for Clegg wasted their vote. There was NEVER a chance anyone other then Gordon or David could be the PM.
 6.
Bet those who voted UKIP and BNP are gutted, I mean it was a lost vote from the start. [:P]
Quite agree, bit like voting for Nick Clegg. This election was a clear case of Do you want five more years of Gordon, or change in the shape of David.
 7.
I blame those that voted BNP and UKIP.
I thought you might. [:D]
 8.
She doesn't need the press parked out on her doorstep.
I hear she has sold her "story" to a national newspaper.  [8-|]
 9. FYI, Cit*bank are transferring many of their credit card accounts to CC asset management company. In the process, they are closing many accounts they don't want, so don't take it personally. They did the same with their EGG card a while back.
 10.
As the OP I wasn't really intending to start off a political discussion. Rather I thought it would be interesting to speculate on the outcome of the election based on the (mis?)information that is available to us. However, I can't resist commenting on the views of ebaynut. Surely you get into Eton, not on the basis of intelligence but on how much money your parents have got. Having been to Eton only proves that you had rich parents. Just for the record, my son went to the local comp. He has a PhD and is a world authority in his scientific field. My daughter went to the same comp. and she got a good honours degree from one of our best universities. Clearly, they would have done a lot better had we been able to afford to send them to Eton [if they take girls that is]. Patrick
So, what you are saying is your children would have done better if they went to Eton? That is what I said, anyone would do better at Eton than a state school, the fact you choose to spend your money on other things than your children's education is down to you. Brown, while enjoying a free further education, heads a party which has made the children of today get deeply in debt to pay for theirs.
 11.
I beg to differ on this one. Surely the one thing that the UK does need is a coalition government. That government must totally reform the UK electoral system and provide some proper democracy. How much longer have the great majority of the electorate have to put up with a dictatorship that is governing on the basis of 25 to 30% of votes cast. Another 5 years of this, no matter which party rules, would be a total disaster Why on earth should a coalition government be considered 'bad' by the all powerful financial masters?.This is scare mongering by the right wing media. After all most of the countries in the western world are run by coalition governments, some good and some bad but none of them have a minority dictating matters.
Do you really want Mr Brown, Mr Straw and Ms Mandleson to cling to power? Give me strength, what is wrong with you???? I personally, and you can call me old fashioned if you wish,  think for what they have done to the UK, a date at Tower hill, a sharp axe (well not that sharp, lets not get it over too quick ) and the chopping block is what they really deserve. [:)]
 12. We must, whatever happens get rid of Labour from power. There is only one party who will be able to get rid of Brown and his party. We must ALL vote for that party. Gordon Brown and Tony Blair have let the country down, and have also badly let their own supporters down. I don't and never have voted Labour, but I understand why some people choose to, but the policies of "new" Labour are far removed from  the traditional Labour party and what it stood for. Cameron is young, energetic and I would rather have an Eton educated person in charge of running the country, then someone from a state school, with its poor education standards. Brown and Labour created the financial and total mess the UK is in at present, don't please for one minute trust them to get us out. A vote for Nick and the Libs will only help Gordon hang around longer, if he loses and I pray he will, his party will soon get rid of him, and then we can try to put the last 13 years behind us.  [8-|]

 15.

Russethouse has a short memory/history as at one time only home owners could vote - not a bad idea really. My eldest stepson suggested today that there should be an IQ test before people can vote.
What was it Churchill said: The greatest argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.  So very true!
Because Churchill said it does not mean its right. Did he not allegedly say to a lady who called him a drunk, that she was ugly, and in the morning he would be sober?  Thing was he was ugly and drunk and in the morning he was still ugly. So don't hold on every thing he says.
 16.
Interesting article RH.  I do wonder (and this is true - I have no idea) whether NF votes will be more likely to come from disaffected Tories or Labour?
Err, most likely the "NF" vote will come from people who like and support their policies ????
 17.
There really has to be a better system than general elections? Unfortunately the only creditable alternative; The monster Raving Loony party seems to have disappeared. [:D]
Unfortunately Dave Sutch decided life was not worth carrying on with and took his own life. Some of his campaign slogans were first class, such (if you pardon the pun) as "Vote for insanity, you know it makes sense". And that question he  asked, "why is there only one monopolies commission?"
 18.
[ GG, I know, it's very disappointing but then life is a bit like that.  There are indeed no certainty and, as you say, onwards and upwards..........Compostelle, here we come!!!!!
Think of it like this, If it was meant to have happened it would have, no doubt you will find somewhere even better in time. You did say how much nicer your current house was looking of late. Enjoy it, you have put in a lot of work. Who knows, you may be able to claim a refund for having the moat emptied next time. [I]
 19.
Yes, so sorry Sweet17. Have written a little piece in the 'chatter en français' section. Fate ... I believe. bonne chance. Ebaynut - I have been entirely honest and open with you. Have I missed your reply? Do you live in France or in the UK - and if in France how long have you been there? It would only be fair to reply. Merci et Joyeuses Paques.  Swissie
Hello Swissie, I am English born and 'bread',  (that's for Norman)  and live in England. ( can you hear the National Anthem playing ?????) [;-)]
 20.
If, as rumour has it, these Roumanians are everywhere, where is it safe to look for a house?
Try Romania, there cant be many left there now. [Www]
 21.
" No doubt the lazy white scum were all laying in their beds" What were they laying do you think? Eggs ? Fortunately Trevor McDonald speaks better English.
Theys laying their WOmen !!!!!! innit M8  [+o(] And its SIR Trevor BTW.
 22. I am sorry, you are correct, immigrant do make a positive contribution to the UK.   They have just provided me with an hour or more of entertainment in a jolly little program called "cops with cameras" on ITV3.   What a pleasure it was to watch this multicultural experience as they helped our brave boys in blue with their enquires. No less then SIX cases were featured, and not one was of anybody who was "White English". No doubt the lazy white scum were all laying in their beds, drawing dole and receiving housing benefit, while these brave young immigrants worked hard to provide us with our nights entertainment.    After this wonderful display of their lifestyle in the UK was over, the News at Ten started, yet again they provided the main story, it told how Leroy ( name changed to protect his rights) had murdered his two young children to teach their mother a lesson. O' how we laughed as the interpreter struggled to communicate with him, and the joy it brought me and my family to know she must be charging £100 plus per hour for this valuable service. I think this multicultural thing may catch on. [geek]
 23.
Ebaynut- this is just so below the belt and quite shameful. I have British nationality and lived, worked and raised a family in England, where I spent 39 years until last March. I currently live 400m from the French border, of French descent. I live in the UK part of the time, and have family and friends in UK, including children and grand-children. So don't tell me I am not entitled to comment on life in UK. Your attack on the Swiss in order to counter my comment can only be called pathetic. Shame on you (and on those Swiss that did use the war to get rich - including my grand-father, whose actions I refuse to be responsible for, sorry).
Cripes, how much did Grandad pocket ??????
 24.
Born and bred in Switzerland, of Huguenot descent - married to a Brit in 1971, spent next 39 years in UK - acquired British nationality. Now back in Switzerland, with British husband, born Cape Town of incredibly mixed heritage, including English grand-father. Daughters and grand-children in UK.
So, let me get this right, you are NOT English, you do not live in the UK.  You do not live in France. So why do you think that you have the right to comment on what should or should not take place in the UK? Why, because you like multicultural societies, do you think we should we have them forced on us by people of your mindset. I hate to bring this up but if it had not been for my father and others like him, you all would be talking German in Europe, you would have no history. But hang on Switzerland, stayed neutral,I recall, but did not mind profiting from stolen Na*i gold. [Www]
 25.
Why should Britain be multicultural and celebrate diversity? Because it has always been and always has. Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Picts, Jutes, Danish Vikings, Norman (Vikings) - and all that by 1066 -and this is what has always made Great Britain so great. Why should it stop now. My little grandson looks typically Irish, like his dad. He is a mixture of 4 races and about 9 nationalities over past 4 generations. He will never encounter racism though.
Are you English, by any chance????? [8-)]
