1. Bicard is recommended for mould removal although I have not tried it myself.
2. I have received an email purporting to come from france forum discussion. It invites me to reply to continue the discussion in depth. Naturally I won't but the interesting thing is that the email account to which it was addressed is not that which is detailed here in complete france and is in fact such a new account that noone except MOH even knows about it. The sender is one Vincent Coma. Anyone else had such an email?
3. Has the vet mentioned FeLV - feline leukemia or FIV -feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Both could have some of the symptoms you describe. I am sorry but I don't know the French for the deseases. I lost a catr to FIV once but treatment may have improved since then. (1985)
4. Try www.baumaux.com  vermiculite €4.10 for 5 litres and plaque alvéolée 10 holes per tray €1.6 for 4 trays. Excellent choice of seeds, fertilisers, tools etc. Good service and usually a couple of free gifts thrown in.
5.  comment made by a character in a Midsommer Murder the other week "smoking is SO 20th century" Perhaps if teenagers thought like that it would have a positive effect.
6. the leaf looks like an acorn. The nut could be an acorn without its 'cup'. Pigs can eat acorns, horses can't. Not sure about humans.
7.
The fine is set at €68 for the smoker. As  for the café or restaurant owner, he will not be held liable as long as his establishment displays the correct non-smoking signs (€135 fine for non-display) and has not tacitly or clearly encouraged smoking on his premises.
So who is going to enforce the ban? Tha bar owners have no interest. Not the poor gendarmes again. I dont see where they will find the time between their general police duties and breath testing, checking for people using phones whilst driving, checking that all pools have adequate security etc etc... Seriously, not all new laws can be enforced without the "buy in" and responsibility of those who have premises where the offence is commonplace.
8. how about discovering wine of amazing value in a cellar -shades of a Midsommer plot last week. I am also not convinced that anyone intelligent enough to earn a huge amount  and retiring needs non proffesional help. Of course I may be wrong
9. I recall in the 60s in particular, university students used to write to "dear marge" or whoever with the most outrageous questions and problems trying to elicit answers. Some recent postings are making me wonder whether the sport has resurfaced?
10. Having just read some horrible postings in reply to a query regarding social contributions from someone who is in poor health but financially secure I really think that the people making disparaging remarks about another forum should think again about the attitudes expressed.
11. I understood that cafard was also used for protestants because of their sombre clothing. I seem to remember something about Eleneor of Aquitaine and cafards.
12.
I just pay both my taxes by direct debit and don't have to worry about them. I can't understand why others don't do it this way.
We do but because we moved department the authorities are not aware that we have already paid and have sent us a bill for late payment. We informed both the "from" and "to" authorities but they never seem to talk to each other!
13. If I change to a different modem what is my situation with FT? Given that I think that the recent problems were at their end would they just refuse to help?
14. I have occasional problems with my FT ASDL connection. It tents to go out of sync - usually on a Sunday night but usually resets itself overnight. I think that the IP address is reconfirmed or something. Other times I have deinstalled and reinstalled the software. I can practically do it without reference to instructions I have done it so often. This week, however, we had a power cut overnight Sunday and nothing I did reestablished the link. The diagnostic test confirmed that it was out of sync. Deep breath and phoned the help line 3900 and told them everything I had done. They are very unhelpful and don't even respond to a request to speak more slowly. I think the support person got into some technical stuff and asked if anyone in the house spoke better French at which point I gave up but lo and behold the line was back in sync next day. I am now going for Teleconnect.   Oh, I also came across a French forum about liveboxes and on there the help line was criticised!
15. I reached my 'seniority' in September. I did not get the full pension amount as I did not have enough years but my E121 came as standard.
16. In 2006 I had two accidents which were my fault (one so small I didn't bother getting my car fixed) Groupama continued to insure us in 2007 but today we received notice that they no longer want our business. Both the car and the house insurance is cancelled as at 1/1/2008. I read somewhere that insurance must be available albeit at a cost. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also is it allowable to cancel the house insurance on which there have been no claims at all? Must Groupama furnish us with details of our previous no claims and details of the accidents? I fail to see the logic in refusing insurance rather than loading the premium. If we have to be insured somewhere another company will get the benefit of the large premium.
17.
Same for me as I have an E121, it was the price on the box that I quoted.
can you clarify a point for me? I have only just qualified for my E121. Do you not pay for your medication? I have previously been reimbursed by CPAM and the remainder by our mutelle. What will happen from now on?
18. We stay at the Comfort hotel in the Rue Mouffetard in the 5th arrondisment when we go to Paris. Rue Mouffetard  is full of little restos and bars and has a small market at one end most mornings. It is comparatively traffic free and close to the ile de la cite with Notre Dame etc. The only down side is that the rooms are small. The nearest metro is Place Monge.
19. Having checked the "code de la route" roundabouts should be treated exactly as in the UK. Do you think the French are taught the rules or do they just get taught to pass their test?
20. They certainly exist in some areas - with purpose built  sheds - very smart. I don't think that there is any other word than "jardin" which usually means a veg garden anyway.
21. Where was that taken? Incredible!
22. Sorry ,slight variation. My vet said he would register my cats chip in France. Is there a Freanch site where I can check it has been done please?
23. Lardons. You can wedge them onto the pointy thing.
24. Magnolia grandiflora.  It is evergreen and has large, fragrant flowers in summer. However It takes years to get to a good size and the "fragrance" is a bit limited in my opinion. I have a very big one in my garden.
