  1. NO!!! it will come oven-ready - although I did pluck and clean the partridge that our cat caught and brought home for us last week; that has now found a new home in our freezer! I have known our Christmas dinner since it was an egg (literally) - i was shown the new-laid eggs in the Spring and asked if i wanted a goose for Christmas.  Every time I go to the farm, I get shown the geese.  They are wandering around the farmyard and field, their diet until recently has included all the windfall figs, pears and apples etc - better to eat meat that is reared like this and killed quickly in its familiar environment, although I'm a hypocrite because I wouldn't kill it myself.
  2. Hi wifey i have our goose ordered from the farm in ur village - free range,organic etc;  I will see farmer's wife tomorrow and can ask if she will have a spare one, if you like;  we are on border of 16/86 near Civray - if that will be any good for you
  3. Hi Christine Don't be tempted to use one of the pretty dishes to cook the tajine in.  Most of the decorated ones are serving dishes only.  They will shatter if you use them on the hob or in the oven.  Only ones that state that they are safe for the oven can have the tajine cooked in them and then ONLY in an oven.  BTW, do you know that you have to put water into the little hollow on the top of the lid;
  4. hi Paul i keep trying to reply to your email and it keeps getting bounced regards Joy
  5. Hi Does anyone know if you have to pay cotisations of a minimum amount in order to qualify for health cover? We are only just setting up our gite/ chambre d'hôte and don't envisage a huge income.
  6. Hi Our last lot of visitors had an early start and a long journey  and on their last day, they asked me if they could pay to have the cleaning done for them.  No problem except that i'd charged 20€uros for the cleaning and found that they'd left the place spic and span anyway!  I just had to strip the beds, and do the normal amount of cleaning.
  7. we looked at a house in the Marais Poitevan.  there were woodpecker holes in most of the shutters and a nest on one of the windowledges, inside between the shutter and window.
  8. Hi missed the map in Charente Libre for tomorrows stage, no map in today's l'Equipe - trying the internet again for details of Cahors to Angouleme
  9. Hi I've been trying to download the map of the Cahors to Angouleme stage but all I can find is a not very detailed map of the general route and it took 50mins to download (only got dial-up!).  Can anyone suggest where I can find a more detailed map, perhaps with refreshment stations and hillclimbs marked.  We're Tour virgins and are taking a group of French teenagers with us - so don't want to end up in a not very good place thanks
  10. Hi Try melting a couple of squares of the 70% cocoa solids stuff in a large cup in the microwave. Gradually whisk in hot milk.  Delicious and easy - you can get the tiny whisks at any supermarket!

  13. Hi I've seen flyers for one in La Porte Ouverte - the English lending library and drop-in centre etc in Civray.  If that is any good for you, their phone number is 05 49 87 97 36.  The gentleman there will be able to give you the contact details for the AA. Hope this helps, if you ever just need anyone to sound off to, I think they would be good at that too.  All the best;
  14. someone on AI wanted a set of curtains making; I wasn't too far away so I replied, volunteering.  The post got deleted as unsolicited advertising.  I put another post on, complaining that it had been deleted without anyone asking if curtain making was, in fact, my business - that got deleted too.  The feeling I have is that if anyone complains about silly deletions they get threatened with banning!
