  1. I use cheap flour for bread (and the dried yeast that comes in sachets) but then I found a stronger flour in Leclerc that was only about 75c, then a couple of days ago I saw that Lidl have a 110 flour also only about 75c. I'd never pay the huge price that's asked for 'real' bread flour.

  3. Ah well, there's always Christmas television to look forward to..............;
  4. Blustery this morning in coastal Vendee, but surprisingly mild. This afternoon we've had continuous rain (although I suppose it's needed as everywhere was dry)
  5. Sorry to hear that you're suffering so much, but each day that you get through is another one nearer to completing your treatment. I'm thinking of you and sending good wishes.
  6. Our town got 8.07/10 - and some of the 'negatives' will soon be gone (such as lack of lycee as it's being built) Saint Gilles Croix de Vie 85800
  7. You can order a phone from Free at the same time as you order the SIM card.
  8. You may do better asking on a forum specifically for Americans https://www.internations.org/france-expats/americans
  9. This seemed a good explanation https://www.facebook.com/scientistsforeu/videos/1160769614025046/
  10. Richard51 The advice is pretty similar from the NHS http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/homehygiene/Pages/sprouted-seeds-advice.aspx
  11. Mint, please don't eat these raw! https://www.foodsafety.gov/keep/types/fruits/sprouts.html
  12. I also loved Travels with my Aunt, plus I enjoyed Our Man in Havana.
  13. I know that Prime Ministers always make pots of money once they've left the job, so wouldn't it be best (for all of us) if she went now? I think that the last year has aged her terribly and, according to the old saying 'there aren't any pockets in shrouds'
  14. 'Mine is deffo my crowning glory but, alas, it seems that I am in danger of losing it all soon enough...............hmm' I hope not for medical reasons ?
  15. We live in 'allée des Roses Trémières', and since there are loads of them everywhere in town, including growing through the pavements, we thought we'd grow some. Not really successful at all as they're very straggly and rusty so if it wasn't for the road name I'd give up on them!
  16. Responsibility for boundaries is shown on the cadastral plan (as far as I remember with outward pointing arrows showing ownership of a boundary).
  17. I found it chilling that the residents association warned of the dangers in November last year. If I lived in a tower block I wouldn't sleep easily (if at all)
  18. I'm starting to think that she's trying NOT to get elected, leaving the brexit mess to Corbyn and hoping for a comeback in 5 years when everythings gone wrong.
  19. Hope you'll soon be better Loiseau. I'll be testing the facilities in Nantes this week (although not the A & E)
  20. The secret to selling a house, whether it's in the UK or France is to buy the right house at the right price, and then don't spend a fortune on it. We've sold 7 houses in France, only one at a loss due to health problems at the time.
  21. The Eurovision Song Contest might be worth a look to see if anyone gives the UK any points!
  22. I make a lemon drizzle cake with oil and it comes out really well, but I don't think you can just swap butter for oil; you need recipes designed to use oil.
  23. When we moved from Normandy to the Vendee buying a new house off a developer, we didn't know if the vendor's notaire did all the work for the building company. We asked our Normandy notaire who said he'd be happy to act for us. He travelled down for the Acte de Vente and the fees were the same as if we'd used a local notaire.
  24. In our commune the council only spray the nests that are on council land, but last year there was quite a to-do about nests bordering a road but on private land. The council refused to spray and the owner said he couldn't afford the cost. I think in the end the council helped with the cost.
