1. Shows you what I know:).  I live about 50kms from Montpellier, so do not frequent the establishments I mentioned.   There is a huge amount of work going on at the Odysseum, I think they are building a new pool. karting, loads of new restaurants and shops.  Forget to mention the new sports stadium they finished building last year too at the end of the new tram line.
2.
Hi Ernie Y Yes thats the email and no I haven't opened it in my email account but it does come up in my paypal account if that makes sense.   redcap
Where is the message section in Paypal?  Just checked my account and I do not seem to have a section for messages from them.
3. Montpellier has a huge student community and there is also and Irish pub that serves guiness and such and an English cafe too.  Lots of bars and brasseries and many other activities including ice skating, aquarium, Olympic pool (and a new pool complex being built as we speak) various cinemas (including films shown in English).  Be sure to invest in one of the tram cards, I think there is likely to be a reduced rate for students, since the tram is a good way to get about.  I think Montpellier is a great city and there is usually lots going on.  I do not think it get that cold in winter, although we did have a small amount of snow last winter.
4. Just to add, we bought a cooker from our local HyperU and they delivered it and installled it free of charge and took away the packaging too.  Plus this was the week running up to Christmas! Also received similar service when we first moved here from out local electrical store, who delivered our new washing maching and dishwasher free, installed it and also took away our old washing machine, all on the same day as we purchased them.
5. Have been reading various sites yesterday and it seems crushed glass could be a good alternative to Zeolite.  I have no plans on changing in the next few years since I have just gotten and am happy with Zeolite, but was curious of the professionals views on here (and anybody else too). Sharkster.
6. None is going into the pool, just when I backwashed the zeolite came out of the waste pipe.  I think I may have over backwashed, so the pressure was too high and just blasted some of the zeolite out with the waste water.  I have since read, it is normal on the first couple of backwashes to have sand/zeolite in your waste water.
7. I backwashed my filter today and a small amout of Zeolite came out in the backwash.  Is this normal?  Also the pressure gauge did not drop as much as I expected (about half way from when I originally installed the filter).  When I installed the filter some weeks ago, I actually backwashed without the pump on, but now realize you are supposed to run the pump, could this have affected the pressure original pressure? Thanks, Sharkster
8. A quick question on filtering.  I thought I had read somewhere, that it is better to filter your pool during the day.  Is this correct, or is it wise to take advantage of the cheap off peak electricity with no ill effects on the pool?
9. As far as I know, most hose sizes are standard with the exception of Intex pools, who have their own sizes (there may be other companies who have their own sizes too).  If the hose size is different on the skimmer and the pump, you may have a few problems getting a hose that fits both (I have read elsewhere people having to use all sorts of methods to overcome this, none of which seem perfect.).  In regard to algae, there is many different views.  The number 1 algae killer is chlorine, but I am not sure it is wise to put chlorine in your pool without some circulation, since you risk the chance of your liner being bleached (I speak from experience).  Anti-algae could be used, since the directions of the bottle I have, state to put in the pool before you commence filtering.  I know many on here do not believe in anti-algae, so please wait for other responses before acting on my advice. Also, if you have a large Brico nearby Weldom, Mr Bricolage, Castorama etc., you will likely find all you need there and it will be less expensive than a pool shop. Hope this helps a little. 10. Sorry about that cooperola has helped me out with my need for a Video 8 - 8mm camcorder, we were just completing the formalities off the forum, plus plotting to wipeout all the nearly retired:)....oops, was not supposed to reveal that:)
11. You also have to be careful if you are emptying it, as these can cause problems with the liner, dependant on the pool.
12.
I know people who are French but unfortunately I'm not sure they'd be much help on the technicalities. Rich
I was more thinking they could be with you when you phone FT.  This is what they suggested to me on the English speaking helpline, but I could not think of anybody at the time.
13. We had the same problem and it went on for about a year.  If your French is up to it, call FT and get them to do a diagnosis over the phone, as if you can prove it is faulty they will replace it.  Unfortunately my French was not up to it, so I purchased a wireless router which is now plugged into my Livebox and have not had a problem since (about 2 years ago).  In addition my Livebox used to make a sizzling noise, so I know it was faulty but FT would not budge or even let me take it to a shop without doing the diagnosis over the phone.  I even offered to purchase a new Livebox and let them test the old one and give me a refund if it was faulty and they would not even agree to that! - Just re-read your post, do you have a friend who is French and could help you out?
14. Does anybody happen to know where the sensor for the thermometer is located on a 2002 Renault Clio.  Our thermometer has gone wild and is currently registering about 20 degrees higher than the outside temperature (this has slowly climbed from 10 degrees over the last few weeks).
15. I have the AquaChek TruTest which I bought from the local Big Mat (they also sell the strips at 8 euros for 50).  It seems much better than a manual solution, and so far I am happy with it.  Saying that I have never used Scuba+ or CoolPool Tester.
16. That's great thanks.  Just PM me when you find it.
17.
I might be able to help - we're just trying to find the old thing to check out the format.  If it's what you want, I'll pm you as I'm sure we would be able to come to a suitable arrangement!
Great thanks, I will look out for your PM.
18. Dick, That is why I mentioned I am willing to purchase it.  8mm is very old technology and it is possible somebody who has upgraded may have an old one they no longer need.  I have a mini-dv camera and a broken 8mm camera and would like to get the film off my old 8mm tapes. Thanks, Sharkster
19. Does anybody have a working 8mm camcorder they could a) lend b) rent to c) sell me.  Please PM is you can help, I live in Herault.
20. thanks for all your advice.  I think I will leave it in the skimmer, since a pump is cheaper to replace than a liner!
21. Thanks.  I will keep an eye on the chlorine levels.  I checked today and I think it may be overdosing the pool.
22. It takes 10 years to earn 50% NCB in France according to Aviva.  When we moved, I had full NCB from the UK which was 5 years and this was converted to 25% discount.  On the accident front, be extra vigilant to physically take down the persons insurance details from their window screen sticker, and do not expect your insurer to try and track the other person down.  They just payout and do not work on recovering the losses. Also French loss adjustors are very thorough and will try and reduce the payout wherever possible (I know from personal experience). French car insurance seemed a lot higher to me, but we live in Languedoc and it is my understanding this is the highest risk region in France.
23. I know this is a stupid question.  I have 200 gram / 3 inch chlorine tablets designed for a pool of 25000 litres (my pool is 11000 litres).  So I have chopped the tablets in half.  Anyway, I have a a floating chlorine dispenser and it has 4 holes.  Currently I have 2 covered, so I am expecting it will dispense 1/2 the chlorine that it would if all 4 holes were uncovered.  Is this correct?  Would it be fair to assume that 1 hole give 1ppm of chlorine, 2 holes 2ppm etc.  Do I need to monitor this daily until I am comfortable the dispenser is releasing enough chlorine? Also, I am leaving the dispenser in the skimmer overnight, since the pool is covered and have read that having chlorine going directly into your pump and filter may not be a great idea, but it actually suggests on the packaging the put the tablets directly in the skimmer basket.  Any views on this?
