  1. hi all can someone please advise me on the correct plaster for stone walls....given the vast array of available plasters i'm a little confused....i'm sure i have seen this subject covered before but can't find it now   many thanks in anticipation
  2. hi rtony   you've just learnt a valuable lesson....when in france always check goods at point of purchase ....you won't be the first to suffer and you most certainly won't be the last     sheldon
  3. hi have just purchased one of these in uk....tried it this weekend ....for the money i don't think you can fault it ....very relaxing and the pump gives enough power for the size of the spa....mine already had the rcd device prewired as part of the plug sheldon
  4. i wouldn't recommend dot and dabbing onto tiled surface .....if the tiles are sound and well adhered to the existing wall why not just tile over them ......thats the obvious solution
  5. hi jonzjob   most of the bricos have them ...although they tend to be very expensive compared to uk.....i prefer solder fittings myself as compression fittings often fail with age   sheldon
  6. hi sniffy   french flexis will fit uk taps .....but make sure if you are fitting a high pressure tap your water pressure is sufficient ...which in most cases it should be   sheldon
  7. Personally i can't understand why you would want to transport a bath and taps out from uk when there is a far greater choice of styles in france at much lower prices. However, the pipe sizes in france vary greatly and although it is possible to commect to UK fittings it is not always wise to do so. Althought generally water pressure is high, insome areas it can be quite low and pipe sizes depend on the size of your incoming main supply. If i were you i would only contemplate taking a UK bath to france if i really couldn't find a suitable one there .....best of luck   sheldon
  8. hi catherine Having been a tiler for the past 30 years (is it really that long??) and having seen many peoples diy attempts at tiling, this doesn't even come up to that standard, i have to say it is beyond belief that a national retailer would send out a tradesman to do such a poor quality job, and then suggest sending out same tradesman to put it right . I would be inclined to get someone else to put things right and if you aren't holding sufficient funds back, then ask them to pay the difference. If they value there reputation you shouldn't have a problem.
  9. hi semi pedestals vary some have metal grids like you describe others just require the basin to be mounted and the pedestal hangs off it on a wire hook arrangement ....not too secure in my opinion......however both require plumbing and tiling to be completed before fixing to wall. Regarding the bath ....you need to have rough plumbing installed ....then fit flooring ....and finally ...site bath and plumb in .... hope this helps   sheldon
  10. try the following site ....answers all diy questions and very useful on uk wiring and plumbing   www.diydoctor.org.uk   good luck
  11. hi dick the paslode is available as either straight or angle versions......the angle one being most suitable for nailing through tongues......and is also useful for nailing mouldings and such like   regards   sheldon
  12. hi dick   both paslode and dewalt make angle nailers as well as right angle ones ......i now know from your description what the primatech one is ...used to use a similar one years ago ....can be a bit time consuming and not all that cheap at that price ...would tend to go with the dewalt meself .....you can always sell it on after you've finished with it as they hold there value.......but they also have so many uses i'll lay odds you won't want to part with it   p.s. sheldons fine by the way
  13. hi not seen the primatech nailer...but having been in the trade for nearly 30 years would only recommend Paslode or Dewalt nailers ........the dewalt 18volt nailguns are really very good on flooring and don't require the gas cartridges like the Paslode guns   good luck
  14. hi be interested to know what they charge you for delivery....as we have to order a load of stuff from them and our nearest store is chateauroux
  15. hi londoneye   try www.leroymerlin.fr good prices for the plasterboard and delivery within 48 hours ..usually....not too sure bout ordering online tho   good luck
  16. hi again quillan don't think they will be available in france as redring bought the idea off a smaller company and have the patent on the system as far as i know ....forgot to say in my earlier post that it has limited capacity. However we are using it purely to heat bedrooms and bathrooms as we rely on a woodburner for heat in the main living area and kitchen.
  17. hi roxy   with french properties there are too many variables....so i'm afraid to say there is no general rule of thumb.....only other word of advice is , always have a contingency budget available for those nasty little surprises.   good luck
  18. hi quillan search on the web for redring hotbox electric boiler.....its a form of halogen heater that will feed normal wet central heating rads....very economical to run and easy to install ....runs off a 13 amp plug
  19. ooops forgot to say ptfe tape would be advisable on the tap connector to offset joint.
  20. hi   These offset connectors are the same as you would find on some uk shower mixers and bath fillers for on wall mounting. One end goes into the back of the tap with a rubber washer ( do not overtighten ) the other end takes a normal tap connector which should then be fitted on the end of your 16mm pipe. Easy when you know how.
  21. I always use acylic undercoat/primer (2 coats) ....followed by a coat of quick drying brilliant white gloss from wickes master range (none of the major paint manufacturers do a similar product for general sale - only trade). Dries in rapid time , doesn't yellow with age and you can wash your brushes in water. Been using it for years and it is the whitest white i've seen. Just one small tip ....if you are painting it over new timber , make sure you apply knotting to all the knots , or they will shw thro the finish
  22. Many thanks everyone .....gives me a start   sheldon
  23. Anyone know of any reclamation yards in the Creuse area near La Souterraine. Looking mainly for natural stone flooring and timber.   Sheldon
  24. Does anyone know of any suppliers of wet room components, other than Lapeyre. Am looking for the waste outlet and waterproofing materials mainly.   many thanks   sheldon
