1. Hi, Very interested in this thread as SWMBO's Sky box is on its way out. There appear to be several DVB-S twin tuners on the market that include Visionic, Visiosat, Sedea and Optex amongst others.  Do these allow you to record Sky programmes that are FTA?  If not, is there an alternative to a Sky+ box?  regards Vern
2.
If I told you that, I'd have to kill you.
That was a helpful reply. Gardian, Yes - Normal BFPO address plus Angleterre should do nicely. You will need to pay standard UK postage whereas in the UK if the letter is handed over a PO counter it is free. For further information try http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/faqs.htm Yours Vernon Light Blue not unhelpful Percy
3. Good morning, I will be travelling regularly into Paris Orly (Easyjet from Italy) and looks like TGV from Montparnasse to Poitiers. 1.  Can anyone suggest a closer TGV link to Poitiers than Montparnasse. 2.  Grateful for speedy transfer between Paris Orly and closest TGV link to Poitiers. Thank you Vern
4. Give us your address - promise no noisy bikes during daylight hours.  They are noisy, smell when ridden hard and they are fun - sounds like another pastime but ..... forum rules etc etc (horses of course!!)  Pat - you sound like another wingeing Pom.
5.
I think your not getting enough of something. Luckily there will be several hundred miles between us...
Does this come under threaten or intimidate posters? Not sure so, will appreciate moderators thoughts.
6. Speaks volumes - by the way know the individual before being silly!!
7.
I Neither of us will be working in France, so we could (or will be on) just for arguements sake a 5 year holiday!
Sorry, you are giving lessons in literacy?
8. No. Read previous posts.  I know it is difficult but click on the top right of the screen under search.  Personally I am bored with chancers and will report them in our part of Dept 79.
9.
I take on board all your comments and wouldn't want to upset anyone, but where is the line between being on a long holiday and becoming a resident? Neither of us will be working in France, so we could (or will be on) just for arguements sake a 5 year holiday!
Another chancer.  As discussed.  Looser that will again cause problems for the geniune individual that will obey the rules.  Sorry guys but I spotted him first. T****r that needs to be reported soonest.
10.
Thanks for the welcome. ChezStevens, I did say in my original post that... "I have been looking through previous posts regarding my questions, but am still a little unclear on some." Quillan, I think you have answered my question. I will still have a legitimate U.K. address and my insurer will cover me for extended stays in Europe, so I guess I will go down that route until we purchase a LHD car in France. Thanks - Simon & Ruby
If you are moving here you can keep your car for a very limited time on UK plates, normally 30 days - otherwise you are not insured.  You will become, intentionally or not, another illegal car on the road bringing our collective reputations into disrepute.  As I said, and repeat, use the search facility - it has lots of useful information and saves the regular posters having to repeat themselves time and time ........... IF YOU USE THE SEARCH FACILITY YOU WILL SEE HOW EMOTIVE THIS SUBJECT IS.
11. There are previous posts that answer all your questions.  Bit lazy really.
12. I work in the UK with SWMBO and 2 boys in France.  Our E106 was originally for 1 year however we queried this and received a 2 year E106.  My family will be on an E106 until I reach 55 then, on my retirement, we will receive our 2 year E106 - then who knows ..... certainly nobody on the forum 'cos I doubt if the full ramifications are understood by the french civil servants. I am bemused by the constant ''breaking news'' or not on another post reference health entitlement.  The only folks at present that will benefit from the panic are the insurance industry.
13. Not everybody gets a full 2 years of E106 either.  It is not an automatic right but earnt.
14. Your German car should be issued with Transit Plates - valid for 1 month as I understand it.  If it is a new car then you will only get back the German VAT after payment of french TVA, registration of the car in France, then reclaim german VAT. If you delay the process pass the month you may find some explaining required at the Prefecture 'cos ''they aren't as trusting as we all are'' (?!!).
15.
Yes, Sweet 17 boringly dependable - that's what I like. Styling - forget it; satnav - only for morons who can't read a map; alloy wheels - so what? No, just give me a car that gets me where I want to go, every time. It amazes me that people buy cars on anything but reliability - who wants a flashy car that's braking down all the time eg. Land Rover - bottom of the reliability league, but British so that's alright then. Now tracked down Honda headlights. Sending out expeditionary force in search of Mazda ones - will keep you posted. Patrick
Might want to try these guys - never used them myself but recommended on ARRSE site - The British Army Rumour Site. http://www.rogersheadlights.com/ regards Vern
16. The programme suggests they have changed companies from ** Construction to ** Concept - that would be a cynical approach to their clients needs.  Gives other Brit builders a bad name and certainly makes you consider carefully the advantages (?!) of using a tradesman that speaks your mother tongue in France.
17. Borat, There is a search button that allows you to research the archives - this has so been done before!! Loved the movie - so un-pc I nearly keeled over. regards Vern (definitely not a policeman)
18. For those that did not see the programme here is the link:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/reports/homes/homes_20071003.shtml
19. It will be interesting to see how this company explains itself to the publishers of this forum and all the folk let down by their apparent, and televised, attempts to destroy folks dreams with this:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/reports/homes/homes_20071003.shtml
20. Thanks SD.  Tried to reply yesterday but site was playing up. regards Vern
21. A new twist for Sunday Driver!! Good morning, I have been offered a NATO job in Italy that allows a new taxfree car every 12 months - lucky me.  I would obviously like to share this largesse with my family who will remain in france. I would like to buy a taxfree LHD car in the UK, keep it in Italy for 12 months and 1 day then transfer ownership to my wife in France - rather than swop the car every 12 months with a dealer.  I would then purchase another car for my use. So: Do I need to re-register the car back in the UK before matriculation in France? Will there be any tax liability in France (considering it will be a NATO job)? Grateful for information on regulations that may help or hinder.  I am asking these questions early so that I can make an informed decision before purchase and so remain within the law.  If the system allows what I am contemplating then excellent however I fear as always there will be a fly in the ointment!!  regards Vern
