  1. I couldnt see where Hoddy had moved your post to... so heres my thoughts.. I believe that knowing electrics in france is not enough to be an electricien... I believe there is a lengthy course you must go through and pass before they will let you work in that trade. Your french doesnt have to be brilliant but the better it is the quicker you'll pick things up. One other small problem is that by the time you get to the end of the course the french will probably have introduced a whole new lot of rules and regs for the trade. Having said all that ..I never use the word "can't"... so you can if you really want to. Just do the course. Good luck monti
  2. Cant resist this... I think its a Taxi....
  3. I have to agree with Dick Smith... although if you were lucky enough to get the words into the right ears, that something that is needed especially around here is someone who speaks english and really understands the french system... you would be worth your weight in gold to the UK community living in france. I know my local supermarket employs one of my french friends and she got the job because her english is so good!!!! So although it would be hard... you do have an extra string to your bow.... Monti
  4. Seriously guys and gals...is what we are doing so important to you???? Really come on!! Get some real life... Ok As you are all barking up the wrong tree and because all this crap does our company no good at all I am going to try to put this to rest... I know I cant please all of you ....but you already know that yourselves. There are two of us who have been working together for a long time now.... we are both Micro's as we each work at home doing our own conversions too...and we dont need to work all week so the limit suits us. Along our travels we have joined up with 5 other micros so now there is seven of us of all different trades... As micros we dont need to charge VAT and we all get together and ( like a consortium ) we work out prices for a job and each do a piece and each get paid for the job we do... Its that simple... We have just made a website and to date have had absolutely no responce at all to it. Mainly because we have not linked it to anywhere accept Artisan Anglais... and thats been a waste of time so far. We have got our work by word of mouth only so far and somehow things have grown so out of control that we have enough work for a small army. We got this work by being good and reliable... we take people to see jobs we have done and to meet the previous clients. The purpose of my post was simply to find more workers who are registered to do some of the work we have. We are officially 2 guys who call on other registered builders with over 12 renovations... 1 of them is 4 bed house with 2 appartments and 2 gites and 2 swimming pools... Sense tells us we need more help. We are legal.... the post says in BOLD letters "no black market workers".... So please tell me what is your problem.... Yes my partner and me get angry when people like Chris Head burst in with they must be dodgy builders...Alarm Bells etc... We have done nothing wrong. The good news is that some people did read my post and reply through the web site as requested and I am hoping that we might now be 11 people...but thats still not enough. I hope you guys and girls can all sleep well tonight... I can...I only post on other posts if I can help...The question you must ask yourself is do you? For those who gave words of support...thanks... For the others...well thats life...well it seems to be yours anyway...
  5. Micky P...do as I said on the other post... hit the web site and email me... All this because I wanted to meet some other workers to help us out with a lot of work. As for everybody else.....me personally I cant get involved in an arguement with people who mean nothing to me... I hope you all have a nice pleasant day... no sarcasum intended but you have to admit... if you were a worker and you answered the add as it said answer it...all would be OK...and on the other hand if you were not a worker and ignored the post as you should have done all would be OK too!!! Some people say that too many people here in france get bored quickly and have too much time on their hands... As I said, have a pleasant day.. Monti
  6. The problem with old properties like this is that you dont really know what you have bought until you start tearing it apart.... We have worked on many old farm buildings and although many of them do turn up unexpected surprises I still feel that they would still be standing long after I no longer do!!!! Hope it works out well for you... Monti
  7. Firstly...micky P.. sorry I have not answered you... I am guessing you hit the email button on the bottom of my post ...sorry... it says on my other post that you should use the email on the web page... this email on here does not come through to me....Please email me again through the site. As for alarm bells ...well some people spend to long on here.. As for the VAT... well we are registered and how we do this and stay within the law is our buisness. If anyone wants to report us to anyone.....go ahead. Look foward to hearing from you Micky Monti
  8. Again why popular in particular... having said that I used it as I have lots of it...  I am in Dept 24. It is unlikely you will get it dried, or T&G as it bends so fast so you have to use it straight from the tree and it will shrink so you must have a plan to cover the shrinking. The cost depends on the thickness you require. You can email me through the web site below if I can help further.. monti
  9. Builders etc ...see my post in employment vacancies please... cheers monti
  10. Hello... our company is about to start some major projects and we are needing some more hands to keep to the schedules. The work is in Dept 24 Between Riberac and Perigueux and includes several new builds and renovations so all services are required. No black market workers please.[6] Builders, electricien, plumber, tiler and even a labourer all required. Hit the web site below and use the email address in the "contact us". Heres hoping......... Monti
  11. As long as he gets you the windows you want..... and you are not attempting anything strange and far out... you can then do what you want on the inside.. monti
  12. I was always under the impression that the most you could have was 12kw in mono phase and if you wanted more you need to change to 3 phase. Is it just the rule in the dordogne. Who has more than 12kw on mono phase??? Prey tell..... monti
  13. Hello all... I have an old fallen tree in my yard and I want to cut it up for firewood but I have noticed a healthy selection of hornets diving in and out of the trunk end...( I think they are hornets... like huge wasps about an inch and some long ) Now I dont want attack the tree with my chainsaw until these earth controlling creatures have gone to sleep for the winter or left ( gone on holiday ) for the winter. Does any one know when that might be? And more importantly do they leave for the winter or am I going to have to fight them one day out in the cold??? Thank you in advance... monti
  14. We pay 170 euros a brace which is 4 cube I believe. Its 1m long and as dry as something which is exceedingly not wet. monti
  15. Its amazing how much concrete a good digger can move in a day... at about E500!!!!! monti
  16. Hi I live in the dordogne and I wondered if any of my neighbours had managed to grow them out here? monti?
  17. We are very busy...here in the dordogne... there seems no slow down to me...but then again we are very good!!! monti
  18. you can pay me in fishing time..... Where is the lake? Which dept? monti
  19. Hate to put the dampers on things but is that a low lying piece of land?... If you look around Bordeaux a lot of the ground is very flat and very low... and the sea levels they tell us are on the way up. Have you noticed how cheap property is south of bordeaux... Dont mean to upset anyone but I have often looked at the map and thought what will happen when!!!!!!!! monti..
  20. In Bourdiellies a person I know had his fridge caught fire ...just out of the blue. Luckily he was there to deal with it.. That first bit doesnt seem very english....but I know you can work out what I mean. monti
  21. Where is the lake.... I'll fish it.....and pay too...
  22. Thats a "no" then????? struck out again...
  23. As I drive around dordogne I see all these great lakes but they are all fenced and reserved for the hunt etc....  I thought I would ask if any fishermen or women ( fisher person ) knows of any good lakes. I know of a couple where I am allowed to fish all year but I need some variation. I know I can fish the rivers and I do but I prefer to fish a good lake. Heres hoping.... monti
  24. Well in the dordogne for some reason the price of tyres for transit vans is about twice the price of UK .I could do all four for 140 quid in UK and its 170E here for 2 tyres. I had french tyres up with french paint, something to save up for.... monti
  25. I am was having a conversation with myself and we were discussing weather as an artisan we had to make sure that the client had planning permission before we did any work that required the said documents. For example.... Mr smith says he wants a window in the wall and that he has planning permission... is it our duty as an artisan to make sure he is telling the truth... and if he is not and the window goes in place do we as an artisan take any flack for putting in said window. Who wears the ball and chain if things go wrong? monti... deep in thought
