1. It is about time some sanity prevailed in the UK house price market, you are wise I believe to get out before they start falling. Your first stop in searching for a french property should be through the Notaires website (www.notaires.fr). We have had nearly 40 UK families who have stayed at our campsite during the past 2 years who have bought in our area, on our advice, most of them have bought through the Notaire nd in a couple of cases over 3,000 Euros cheaper than the agents advertise with the added advantage that the Notaire has to be scrupulously honest and, if asked, will often advise if an offer is likely to be accepted. The discount culture is not like the UK, Some people will take an offer, some of the older ones will be insulted. Prices are continuing to rise steadily. Our campsite which we bought for £45K 5 years ago would probably sell now for £150K ( Nice house, ongoing business, good views and enough land). House and barn with a little land hasn't risen so steeply. Land is cheaper here than the UK and it is often cheaper to buy a plot and build a house rather than restoring a ramshackle place. www.leschenauds.com
2. Can only say that we opened an account with a company which was taken over by Tiscali 3 years ago. After about 9 months, we could no longer get a connection and all emails to Tiscali were ignored - They don't give a phone or address contact on their website, obviously to make themselves as difficult as possible to contact. After trying many ways to cancel the account, we eventually, after paying for a useless service for 2 years,we waited until new bank cards were issued at which time Tiscali wrote us a number of threatening letters for 14 Euros which we deliberately ignored. Eventually an english speaker phoned me to say that unless I paid I would be Sued. I had kept copies of my numerous emails telling them to cancel and he said 'we don't respond to emails, and to cancel we had to send a registered letter' - no mention of this at the start! I told him to go ahead and sue me, mentioning the above points, as having been involved in high level marketing for many years,I was in a position to get them plenty of free publicity and a close friend who is a QC was also interested in this case. ' Thank you for your call and goodbye'. Next day he phoned saying our account had now been closed. We are now with 9online with no problems. Wouldn't touch Tiscali or their ilk again with the proverbial barge pole.
3.
"When there's a will there's a way." Fantastic news, wishing a very happy future to Bix, Christine
We are the people who are looking forward to welcoming little Bix into our extended family. Our two dogs, Morse a Giant Schnauzer and Rosie a tiny Cairn terrier love both humans and other dogs and they are the ones who will sort out any problems which Bix may have. In reoly to an earlier question yes the Americans clip their ears to make them look more fierce, more evolved society is against mutilating animals. Roll on next Sunday when he arrives at our campsite. www.leschenauds.com

5. Why should the Gendarmes concern themselves with untaxed UK vehicles? after all they are not paid to collect UK taxes. Gendarmes to whom I have spoken are happy if a vehicle is insured and CT'd as they are aware of delays in the French registration procedures.
6. Why not try the local Notaires first - often they have the same properties as the agents and, in our experience, up to 3,000 Euros cheaper and with no exagerrated claims. Try the website www.notaires.fr and go to Immobilleier section. www.leschenauds.com
7. Panic over - Found out that the problem was a bad connection on the digibox end scart connector- These things are particularly flimsy and cheap looking, the pins look like bits of tin can, no wonder they give problems.

9. Today I switched off all our electricity to fit a new consumer unit. After switching back on everything seemed OK ie. everything that should work did so including the TV with a French soap programme. Switched over to Sky and the picture is as good as usual but no sound!. Switched the mute on and off to check is this made a difference, nope! Looked at settings and the volume is set to medium. Tried switching of for 10 mins and on again but still made no difference . We did have a problem in the past with the picture losing red tones due to a temperemental Scart connection but I have tried fddling around with this and makes no difference. Any ideas? Brian Owen

Daed easy, phone your local Pompiers and they will be out toute suite to solve the problem for you - ours don't charge but are very happy with a glass or two of wine. www.leschenauds.com

12. Now I'm no lover of Microsoft but was impressed with their beta download of MS Antispyware which sorted out a problem on a friends PC which nothing else could touch. It's free (my favourite price) so worth giving it a try. www.leschenauds.com
13. Hi Tony, Thanks for your reply, it sounds about what we need but too small. I suspect that it would need to be refilled every week or so with our 32Kw boiler. Kind of you to bother to reply though regards Brian owen
14. I am looking for a central heating fuel tank of 1500 - 2000 litres reasonably priced new or secondhand within reasonable commuting distance of Limoges. Any offers or suggestions appreciated. www.leschenauds.com

16. I bought a Lexmark Z25 last year actually printed of half a dozen times or so now wil only print in couour and the balck doesn't work (tried 2 cartridges)- total wast of time and money. I believe that Lexmark is an offshoot of IBM - no wonder they're in trouble. Had a friend bring me a Samsung 'izzi' laser printer from 'Office World' at £69 and it has been great, fast, reliable and cheap to run.
17. If in doubt try Troc deL'isle in Limoges ZI Nord, Junction 29 of the A20, they seem to have most things in the almost new line.
18. Download the shareware programme ' faxmail' and you can use your pc as a fax machine, you can find a download site with any search engine, just type in Faxmail.
19. I have had some amazing help from the free www.windowbbs.com, so good in fact that I actually made a donation! Now that IS something.
20. I am putting in a central heating system and the only bit I have yet to get is the oil fired boiler. I have looked around and was ready to purchase when I was offered one from a large house which is being refurbished. The boiler is in excellent condition with regular service records and a new burner and control system, the former still boxed however. The boiler is bigger than I was proposing to buy with something like 2 to 3 times the rated output. The boiler itself is built from 5 and 7mm plate steel and much more substantial than those I have been contemplating. The question is, is it as I suspect reasonable to use an overrated boiler which will, one presumes, just run for shorter periods to achieve and maintain the required heat level. I would be saving a considerable sum and would appreciate any comments on the pros and cons.

22. Just let spybot delete the DSO exploit entries however, they will keep returning, I understand that this is a problem related to Internet Explorer. I think you will have to do what I do, just delete them when they appear. I started off running Spybot, Adaware and them AVG once a week but after a month or two there seemed to be less problems so now I run them about once a month. You can delete all the Spybot tracking entries but they are no too damaging so SB shows them in green.
23. We own a small campsite/B&B near the Creuse/Haute Vienne border and have found business very variable, last year was very slow but 2003, we were full for a lot of the time. There is a lost of off season rental property available here at very reasonable rates so the income may not be quite so high as expected. The holiday season is short although the pleasure of living here makes up for any shortfall in income. www.leschenauds.com.
24.
we can use wood as well as oil but with ours it takes ages for the wood burner to get warm, once warm tho its pretty good but hours to get warm, and its been really cold the last few week
We have a UK Villager woodburner which stays alight all night and by juggling the damper and air inlets can be turned up to a blaze just like a gas fire. We also have a cheap, 40€ Rosiers fire which is still warm in the morning and gets up to blazing in about 20 minutes.
25. The price depends on the rating. I will be using a Worcester boiler 90,000 BTU at new cost of about £800 with gravity feed for the CH water.
