1. Sounds like Mary has sorted it, and besides it would mean moving a mountain of furniture ........... !!
2.
I think that this is all overkill - as with the July bomb attacks last year.  Do you mean to tell me that that the security scans on hand luggage in place for many years have not been able to detect bomb-making equipment - so why have we been bothering for years?  All travel (as well as life) is risky, and the UK nanny goverment has just gone into overdrive with paranoia.  I am due to fly out in two weeks, and I would like less panic and more sense to be shown.  They keep saying - carry on as normal - well given the panic the government, police, Home Office and anyone else involved in this is showing when they put out such messgaes as they did on the news this morning, most people are unable to you behave "as normal"!  Whilst I realise that what lots of people carry on planes seems to beyond reason,  they do seem to have taken the restrictions to  extremes of stupidity.  They have lost any sense of proportion in this - which also makes me suspect that they are less than sure about the information they have gathered, hence overkill reaction. I cannot wait until I can leave the UK behind and not have to put up with this lot any more!
I was going to ignore the above comments, but I can't stop myself. I have no particular brief for the Government, nor the 'nanny state' approach, but to suggest that what has happened this morning is "Going in to overdrive with paranoia" and (the loss of) "Any sense of proportion", is frankly bizarre.  Judith - where have you been over the last 4 or 5 years?  Can any of us begin to understand the magnanimity of the decisions that Reid et al had to take last night?  It's early days and some other recent events suggest the need for caution in any speculation or assumptions that we may make, whichever way our instinctive thoughts lead us.  However,  "Less panic and more sense" ????? Give over.
3. They do exist, but haven't got a clue where you might buy them, because they were left behind for us by the previous (Brit) owner. Maybe France Telecom shops, or somewhere like Planet Saturn, which is pretty comprehensive but am unaware how widespread the stores are.  As suggested, buying afresh might well be the easiest option.
4.
How did all you "sheddies" get on with your declaration de travaux ?  Still waiting to hear whether we are going to be allowed to put up our green metal shed.  Could be worth checking which are the most acceptable in your area before buying?
Must admit that I didn't complete a DdT.  At the time, I didn't realise that I might have had to complete one, but they're pretty laid back about that sort of thing around here.  Nobody (except us and the sangliers) can see it, so they'd probably have told me to forget about it. I think ................... !
5.  ................ oh and if you need one (which you probably will), make sure you order the floor bits.  They're usually an optional (!) extra here.
6. Got mine on line from Castorama last Autumn.  It's probably www.castorama.fr . It was about one week delivery time. Reasonable price: fit for purpose (as they say).
7.
Thats whats missing in my life . Whats missing in yours?
My former London Clubland role as a 'shag buddy'.
8.
Its not as dodgy as some people are making out. Its a very common way of doing things.
Maybe.  But why not insist on doing it through the Notaire?  As far as anything in this world is, it's risk free. I know which option I would take.
9.
If cyclists want to ride without helmets, as adults, that's their prerogative and their risk. End of. It wouldn't be a problem if every other booger saw them in time and gave them room: and so it goes on.
Thunderhorse ................ Agree with just about everything you've said, particularly your 3rd sentence above. The problem is that it wouldn't be like that if there was a prang and you or I were even remotely involved.  You / I allegedly driving too fast; poor, 'unprotected from the-bad-old-car driver' cyclists; them just on holiday and minding their own business. I'm tempted to make a black humour comment, but it would be inappropriate.  I totally agree that it's their problem, but the law doesn't always see it that way (from your background, you must know that) and I'm fearful that sooner rather than later someone is going to get badly hurt in this neck of the woods.

11. Dodgy:  don't do it. Tsfr the deposit to the Notaire: he'll sort it out from there.
12. Cassis ........... Have pm'd you.
13. May I first of all say that I'm neither a cyclist myself, nor one of the 'I hate em' brigade. It just struck me this morning on the short drive back from the village that at this peak holiday time, the roads are inundated with cycling holidaymakers who are neglecting to wear a protective helmet. What's more, they usually ride two-abreast along roads which are full of crazy drivers at the best of times. Without exception, the 'serious' cyclists (you know, the full Tour de France gear) wear a helmet. Are these people mad?
14.
What you could do is buy a property inland and dig a large trench to bring the sea up to your front door.  Nip down the coast with a trailer, fill up with sand (look out for the gendarmes) and dump that outside your front door as well.   Presto - instant seafront accommodation in the location of your choice.  You could even buy a house at the end of a runway to solve your transport problems.
Cassis ........... With this one and your one that followed, I reckon you've missed your vocation!  Love it. As Miki said to Egger / Eggar in one of the other soppy threads, "Youre having a larf". (I trust I haven't misquoted him).
15.
think i need to find out where we living in france, before i book a flight back.
Don't worry about the details - just think of the 'big picture'.
16. Cassis .............. Same for me: more or less same timescale. Written twice, rang once.  Nothing. Oh well, carry on dancing!!
17.
I did (by a UK RICS surveyor). Same reasons as Le_Jars - reassurance. Never actually got the survey report through but did spend quite a long time chatting to the surveyor after he had been over the property. Trouble with survey reports (in my experience anyway) is that you tend to have very little "come back" as there are normally such broad sweeping exclusions and "could not ...", "recommend ..." (weazle words) that legal recourse must be very difficult. What I really wanted was a knowledgeable person to look over the property and pass a judgement on its condition and problems - which is what I got (over the telephone). I actually had the survey done before signing the CdeV to avoid difficult conditions in that document. Ian
Exactly the same for us.  Put it this way, you'd never forgive yourself if you didn't employ sombody and then there was a big problem.  I guess that nine times out of ten, you'd spot the real nasty that they would - but the other one occasion?????
18. Apologies - rather off thread, but slightly relevent nonetheless. Down to the airport and back today.  On the way down, Gendarmerie in the 'middle of knowhere' doing document checks at 11.00. Radar check in a local village on the way back (though on an RN road). They're very, very active just now.  I've no particular problem with it and it's a bit late for any high season holidaymakers to note, but just watch out.  Speed, docs, drink.  "Moderate", "have them", "don't" is the best advice.

Insomnia

I reckon that the name change was a (failed) plot to get her posts 'zeroised'.
20. Gay ................ Be assured that it is ......... in a sort-of back-handed way! I say again, if this isn't a wind-up, I'll eat nothing but tripe and gesiers for the rest of the month!
21. I too meant to record the program last night but forgot. A very good friend / colleague from over 25 yrs ago is married to a lady whose family is in Mousehole.  I can't recall her maiden name, but several of the men lost that night had the same surname. (Did the name begin with an 'M'?)   Two cousins I seem to remember. Very sad: such bravery.  One can't begin to imagine the effect on such a close-knit community.
22. As Chris Head said very early on in this mini-saga, my money's on a 'wind-up'.  100%. Candidates on a postcard to James, c/o Archant.  (or better still, to Gay)
23. Daily Mail / Midi Libre headline: "Welsh woman jailed for cutting (vital) bits off man who stole her makeup".  "Extradition sought".
24. Very chilly down here: bit of overnight rain, then a mere 30C today with a few whispy clouds.  Hot enough in the kayak down the Gardon though - getting too old for that lark, but wonderful scenery and a great view of the Pont (which one never tires of)  Definitely a bit parky this evening - just checked the temp and it says 23C, but it feels a lot colder than last week's 25C. Poppy - if Sept & Oct turn out to be warm, that'll suit me.  Bring on the rain in Aug I say !!!
