1.
Oh- one other question has just occurred to me.  On one side of your pebble beach the pebbles are held in place by the paving.  What retains them on the other side, or do you just let them spill over into the lawn?
There is a run of edging slabs where the pebbles finish to retain them on one side from the other part of the garden (and I am currently planting out the other side of it) and on the other sides they run up to the laurel hedging and fencing at the back. The slabs we used are Pierra (brand) Florence (style) specifically because they had the flat margelles (but it was also our favourite choice of texture and colour) , personally we don't like the raised margelles and it was better for the abri to sit on.  This is their website Pierra We used an excellent local building company to build the pool, install a new fosse septique and do all the hard landscaping all at the same time.  It was complete chaos this time last year - very stressful but worth it in the end.
2. We have a pebble beach around our pool part of the garden (it's actually more like Chesil Beach!). Our builder sourced the pebbles from the local sand/gravel etc company, they were called 'galets de riviere' if that helps with your search.
3. Contact your notaire.  I would think the one you bought the house from in the first place.
4.
Good.  Now you teach me something Suze... what's the "X" for? Thanks, Christine
Cut
5. I finally worked out (with Christine's help) how to paste a link on!! This morning I was feeling a little dispondant having weighed and only lost one little pound. 4 kilos in two months doesn't seem very much UNTIL... I decided to visualise the lost weight, hmm, 4 kilos that's 2 x 1.5ltr bottles of water and a litre of milk (very handy that 1k = 1ltr)! Put it all in a carrier bag and my God!! That's heavy - I would NOT like to be carrying that around with me all day!! You try it, I was amazed and I'm sure you will be too.
6. Yep, 'control V' works - I don't know why I didn't think of it, I use 'control C or X or V' all the time ! Thanks Christine.
7.
After the French bans of BSE infected beef I’m surprised some UK politicians/newspapers have not started the “Lets Ban French Poultry”.  Maybe they have.
They have - not UK but Japan has put a ban on French chicken.  I have no idea whether they currently import any or not though! Quillan - It would affect tourism in the same way BSE did in the UK - affected arreas were restricted/no-go zones, many tourist businesses were badly hit.
8. When I am creating a post there have been occassions where I want to cut a link from elsewhere and paste it onto my post but when I right-click there is no paste option on the pop-up menu. This used to work on the old forum software but since the change the facility has disappeared.  If I want to put in the link I have to manually type it which is a pain because many links are incredibly long.  I have tried using the icon 'Create Link' but it doesn't appear to do anything. Am I doing something wrong?
9. I thought wrong - I've lost another pound taking me to 8lb loss in 8 weeks, if only I had been losing 2 lb a week! 13st 0lb 5oz - so very nearly 12st something [:D] 29.2 BMI
10. It's now been confirmed that it was the H5NI. So close to where the dead duck was found, a matter of a couple of 100 metres, did the infection spread from the turkeys to the duck? If so then how did the turkeys get it in the first place when they had been kept indoors? This is going to seriously affect the huge poultry industry here in France.  Another dose of what happened when mad cow disease broke out in the UK,  if has all sorts of implications for not only poultry farmers but industry, tourism etc. etc.
11. oooh, hot cross buns, toasted teacakes and fondant fancies - a perfect afternoon tea! Weighing in in the morning.  I don't think I've lost any this week, I'm feeling very flabby!
12. On the contrary, I've been buying up any offers and putting them in the freezer! Same with confit de canard and gesiers in the tins - have bought a few for stock in case the prices go up or there's a shortage.
13. The latest on bird flu is that a turkey farm in the Ain found 400 of the 11000 birds dead today.  They are currently being tested for the virus and the remaining birds have been culled. Also another farm on a German island in the Baltic seems to have been infected. http://news.tf1.fr/news/sciences/0,,3285903,00.html?trk=100
14. One thing your 8 year old's can do is to practise their times tables - in French! They do focus on this quite a lot and they must learn them. My 11 year old son is in collège now but part of his end of term report is his knowledge and speed of response of the times tables - I even had a computer printout of the ones that he was weak in! For the six year old I would just learn the numbers and simple additions: pairs 2+2 etc and all combinations that make 10 was one that my daughter did at about this age.
15. Have just had a flight of about 200 go over heading north. (NW Dordogne).  Yay - spring is on it's way [:D]
16. It would be useful to know where in France your are located. We bought new handles for our doors from Perigord Bois Quincaillerie.  It's more for professionals than particuliers and they have a very large selection plus catalogues for even more.  We had to order ours (Limoges porcelain) and it only took a few weeks to arrive.
17. I'm back on track after last week's blip - 1.5 lb down this week giving a total of 8 lb.  I'm now 13st 1.5 lb / 83.2k. By next week I definately want to get to 12st something, that will be psycologically a big kick.  I got MOH to check my height as I haven't checked it for yonks and found that I'm 1.5cm taller than I thought which is GREAT because it obviously affects my BMI.  The good news is with my weight loss and height gain [*-)] I am no longer obese [<:o)] I am now merely overweight [:D] at 29.3 BMI.
18.
Just seen a V of 50 going North - what is going on?
The Spring migration back oop north p'raps.
19. I shall ask the better half who did it - I stayed well clear!!
20. We bought a special knife when we bought the insulation - it looks like an extra long breadknife and is a super-sharp, brilliant for those crusty baguettes once you've finished doing the job  [;)]
21. Hi, It may be a little too far from you, but there is a new 'Snook Bowl Palace' opened in Périgueux at Tréllisac on the eastern side of town.  It has ten bowling lanes and I suppose about 25 tables for pool and snooker.
22.
I can't claim that all my viewing is "high-brow" though, as I'm also a total sucker for A Prendre ou à, Laisser, it blows poor old Noel and his UK version right out of the water [:)]
I'm with you there Cat, Noel's show is dire compared  to the GEORGEOUS 'art-eur' (Arthur for those who haven't seen it). It's a must every night, unfortunately tonight we had a power cut from 6.55 [:@]  until  just before 9 (in time for Holby though).
23. OK, got on the scales this morning, fearing the worst I have to say. I've been reasonably good this week, except the one glass of red with my cote de boeuf last night (no frites). I have had some baguette during the week and some slices of complet toasted with baked beans, it seems that I just can't eat any bread at all, which is a shame because I just love the stuff. This week's weight loss... a big fat ZERO.  I weigh exactly the same as I did last week. I suppose I should be grateful that I've not put on any of the weight that I've lost but it is disappointing. Looking at the other posts, we all seem to have reached a plateau this week - did anyone actually lose any?  Is it a six-week 'wall' like running a Marathon (not that I have)? Is my body adjusting to the reduced calorie/fat intake? Will I have to eat even less to make any more progress? Why is there no loss, not even half a pound? [*-)][:(][:^)][8-)]
24. Yes, I agree it is a good thing. A couple of months ago, I heard on a radio news report of two ado's in my region getting 3 months for being caught spraying graffiti.
