1. I've not ordered from them so can't vouch for their service, but there is an Epicerie Eccossaise in Paris who do mailorder: http://www.epicerie-ecossaise.com/HAGG/hagg.php
2. I would guess that if you checked the ingredients they would have a difference balance of proteins, fats, fibres, nutrients etc accordingly.
3.
I went into the Maries office today and the secretary showed me the plans and sure enough not only that bit of land but others around the entire area is now constructible that wasn't before. She says that the areas designated non constructible are only that way for five years. The plans change every five years and everything can change and nothing is guaranteed.
For information: The plans are called PLU Plan Local d'Urbanisme. Every five years the Conseil Municipal can make changes.  This is proposed on the POS Plan d'occupation de Sols.  There is a delay for people to give thier doléances and then the POS is converted into the definitive PLU.
4. But the bit you get does look like a normal cheque.  Take a closer look at it next time you get one - you'll see across the top it has all the Cheque Emploi logos.  It is issued by his normal bank and will show his name and address just like his 'normal' cheque book. Except for the additional logo it is exactly like a normal cheque.  I've just dug my chequier out to check!
5.
Each employer pays you with a normal bank cheque, but has his/her own CESU chequebook to pay the contributions, as these vary according to the employer's age and other conditions...
Not quite right.  The employer has a CESU cheque book which is in two parts per payment, the first being what looks like a normal cheque (with the CESU logos on it) and the second part is the volet that is completed with the details of the employer/employee period of employ/hours worked etc. this second part is sent off to CESU which then generates a 'payslip' for the employee and a statement for the employer.  The amount deducted from the employer's bank account is the cheque amount + cotisations. I am paid by CESU by various people and I have a CESU chequebook of my own incase I decide to pay anyone by this method so I am quite familiar with it.
6.
As they no longet take personnel cheques, it mentions mandat cash or cheques (what on earth are these and how do I get them)
I think you may have misunderstood.  It is mandat cash, or cheques (ie not mandat cheque).  I wrote a personal cheque for my children's passport renewal a few months ago. And yes you add the postage charge to the passport fee and write one cheque for the total.
7. Quote: Aly (used to be Charlotte3)Turns out I have serious thickening of the lining of my womb and have too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. The consultant at Gynae dept has put me on progesrerone for 20 days per cycle....has anyone else had this treatment? Did it work for you? I was put on a similar treatment, it did work in that it regulated my cycle as it had been anything from 22 days to 45 days. It didn't really do anything for the volume of blood loss though.  I had to stop treatment after one month because my blood pressure was way up again despite being on tablets. At my last scan it showed I had a largish fibroid on the left side of my womb and a 'functional' cyst on my right ovary (which is apparently 'normal' and they come and go, though I don't think a 3cm cyst is at all 'normal'), and thickening of the lining of the womb.  I get severe pains at the beginning of my period, last week I hardly slept one night, nearly blacked out and eventually vomited with the pain. I wondered if it could be endometriosis with bleeding around my ovary (where the severe pain was). I'm nearly 42 and my periods were like clockwork, short and light until about 3 years ago, now they're hell. Menopause?
8. C'était pas normale le temps cette été. That's what they're all saying in this part of the Dordogne.

Flu Jab Season

I got my form through today too (asthmatic). I didn't bother last year although I had for all the years before apart from when I was pregnant or breastfeeding. But I think I will get the jab done this year if it's going to be more virulent than last year, not worth the risk.

asparagus

Sorry there is only one area in the UK for aspargus and that is Worcestershire and of course Evesham.  Unless you have been to the Fleece at Bretforton and the auction then asparagus with butter and a few pints then you have not lived. Times like this tugs a bit memory wise. Lived at Beckford just down the road and the fruit blossom in the spring was something else.
[:$] My great uncle was infact at Evesham - the rest of the family are mainly from Gloucestershire that's why I put that down [:$]
Found out some more info out of curiosity: His name was Bert Groves and he was from Bretforton - chair of the Assc and Champion in the 40's and 50's. You were spot on Llwyncelyn with the location [;-)] [:)]
11. Just to counter that with personal experience (Twinks was talking hypothetically), I think 8-9 is the limit.  Our son was 8 when we moved here five years ago.  The first day I literally had to drag him down the road to get him into the school (but then he is a shy type anyway).  That same afternoon her came out of class with a huge smile on his face and several new friends.  With-in 3 months he was 'comfortable' with the language. When he moved up to collège 3 years ago new friends he'd not met before didn't even realise he wasn't French at first as his language is at the same level as theirs and he speaks with a local accent. The point is that every child is different, some are shy, some are outgoing, some have a head for picking up the language others struggle. I wouldn't bring a child over here older than 8 but your daughter is 7 just now.  Give her lots of support and encouragement, and as twinkle said be truthful - it will be tough for her at first. "Where do I begin?" Start with French lessons ASAP, read some basic books, try to learn as much vocabularly as possible.
12. There is a small independant electrical shop in Périgueux where you will find any electrical bits and pieces you are looking for. It's a real Aladin's cave for electronics. It is called KCE and is in the road where the theatre is (rue du Président Wilson).
13. Go and join your neighbour? Or go to the nearest bar - they'll probably have a TV set up.

asparagus
I also  like the idea of buying green and not dryed crowns
Not sure what you mean here. I think what the other poster meant was that depending whether the shop has stored it indoors or out it can become dry and may fail to grow well once planted.  Asparagus can be green, as we are used to in the UK, or more popular in France is white asparagus but it tends to be a bit harder and less sweet.  I think you can also get a purple/white one too. I looked into buying some asparagus crowns last year but all I could find  were white asparagus.  You can order green asparagus crowns from your local Co-Op Agricole as my friends did but green asparagus does not seem to be easily available in the shops here. BTW, my great uncle was the champion asparagus grower for Gloucestershire many moons ago [:D]
16. I recorded the film yonks ago, but I still haven't got around to watching it (as usual when I record something!).  Maybe, when the winter weather sets in...

Kittens

They're all lovely, I particularly like the little white one on the right.  Sadly my OH is already giving me grief for my 6 month old one I rescued earlier in the year so I couldn't take another [:(] Anyway, I've bumped up the thread [:)]
18. I've had 3 nasty allergic reaction to bites this summer.  The last one was on my arm like yours,  the underside of my arm swollen from elbow to armpit and very hot.   After a couple of days of antihistamine treament and cortisode cream it wasn't much better and the pain had gone into my glands in my neck.  It took over a week to heal and for me to feel 'right'. No idea what bit me but shortly after I had a 'thon' (sp? - you get them around horses) bite my other arm (which didn't react).
19. Our village is currently undergoing such a face-lift.  A few months ago all the underground cabling was done and they are currently taking down the horrid concrete poles and cables and replacing the streetlamps with lovely lantern style lamps.  This is part of a larger longterm project to completely revamp the bourg.
20. I echo completely what Val just said.  I've been on the bureau for the Amicale Laique for a few years now.  I'm sure your AL would welcome you as it's always a struggle to recruit new volunteers.  I've also been on the Conseil Parents d'Eleves which is completely different (more like the school Governors).
21. Figs are season now so either fresh figs or made into a compote.  Onion 'chutney' is also a normal accompaniment to foie gras.  I like to serve it with brioche lightly toasted.
22. I get loads of fruit from my raspberry canes and when I pick them put them straight into an old ice-cream tub (making sure they are 'clean' of bugs etc but not washed) and bung them in the freezer.  As long as it's not crammed full they stay seperated - just give them a shake.
23. As a car driver rather than a biker the extended leg signal is usually given as a thankyou when I move to the right to give the biker more space to pass  (aren't I good [;-)] )
24. Brilliant - flour of course. I'm helping organise a fete de cheval and we have to line up 28 horses and riders for the spectacle (European countries - 50th anniversary) and at the last rehearsal I suggested we needed to mark the ground with each rider's number as it's chaos trying to get them in the right order. I could decant some into a dry water bottle with a hole pierced in the lid. Thank you, thank you!!!!
25. 9th and 16th March it would seem... http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/élections_municipales_françaises_de_2008 See here for more info on the minicipal elections: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/élection_municipale_française
