1. I hope everyone is aware that the Notaire has an obligation to ensure that you do indeed understand what is going on. Many Immobilier agents speak reasonable english, and ours did all the translation st the signing of both the Compromis and Acte. All part of the service.
2. Amazing, they will be paying you to take them away soon. What size of dish did that include?
3. Is it not all just a question of personal preference? In my opinion, only a fool would try to insist that I was in the wrong place just because I was not in the same area that he/she was.
4. There is no criminal law covering the use of a Sky contract in France, thus it is not illegal. There might be a civil case to answer, but I doubt it. There is however a requirement, a civil contract, which Sky (and other UK broadcasters) must adhere to as far as they can, which comes from their rights to show films and programmes to particular geographical areas. True, if you ask Sky if you can have a contract with them when you live in france, they will say no (for the above reason). This does not make it illegal though. The Telecommunications Act is a part of UK law, and is highly unlikely to be enforcable in France. As far as the consumer is concerned, it refers to what broadcasting material you are licenced to see or hear, and what you are required to do with anything you might see or hear unintentionally. Anyway all this is rather academic, as the original poster was not asking about Sky contracts, but Free to Air reception, which is most certainly NOT illegal.
5. I would agree with everything Eslier has said. The astra 2D reception guide suggests that you really need an 80cm dish for most of France, though many manage well with smaller. It is NOT illegal to receive any english channels in France. As stated, the UK television companies only have the rights to show their programmes to UK audiences. It is therefore up to them to ensure, as best they can, that those outside the UK cannot receive their output. This is why, when BBC, and then ITV went free to air, they switched to the Astra 2D satellite which has a much smaller footprint. Your existing Sky box will work just as well in France. If you have a card with it, bring that too, and you will also be able to get Channels 4 & 5. Brian.
6. Assuming you want a normal telephone connection, this is one possibility. http://www.lesminutesdirect.com/Cob/lmd_fr/HomePage.asp?bhcp=1
7. Good thermal insulation would be a prerequisite anyway, otherwise what filters in will also filter out just as quickly. The idea is to capture what heat you can, put it where you want it to be, and keep it there.
8.
Seems to me that there is an opportunity for a trusted marriage broker (Living France). The OP  wants to move euros to UK. Many others want to move money to France. How do we spell parallel?
I remember being in the ferry terminal in Calais many years ago, queueing to change some sterling into francs. There were two uf us, and we only wanted to change about £30. All the other people were english people wanting to change their francs back to sterling. The chap next to me suddenly realised that we would be better off just swapping between us, using the mid rate, which we did, but my friend could not find anyone else in the queue who was prepared to do this. They all insisted on paying their money to the bank clerk, who took his cut and payed it back to my friend. I think several of them genuinely thought that they would be put in prison if they did a direct exchange.
9. I thought the term was Mad as a box of Frogs, but of course that could be taken the wrong way on this forum   Or was it "like two puppies fighting in a sack" Oh, no, I think that was something different, but bags I get the one with the pink nose!
10.
Thread here is how much does a sheep cost(dead or alive)not anything to do with BC,s or any other form of sheep dog.Sheep are breed to be ate.Lamb are E5.50 per kilo this week when bought in town, ewe,s much lees.
Then sadly you didn't bother to read the original post. If I might quote, just to remind you.. Really daft question and I appreciate that there must be a wide range of variability but what sort of cost is a sheep (average, range any rough indication or "ball-park"). Reason is I’m vaguely thinking about introducing my BC to sheep.  Any problems are unlikely (or I would not even consider it), but I guess there is a risk and I would clearly need to take financial responsibility.
11. That shouldn't be so much of a surprise. Since the licences are european, the codes will be universal too.
12. If you keep your UK licence, you have nothing to worry about. No reason why you should change to a french one and lose the ability to drive the larger vehicle.
13. You don't have to undo anything. Turn off the cold water input on that valve, then open all the hot water taps. Then turn the knob on the safety valve a half turn and water will flow out of the tank into the drain.
14. I thought the term was Mad as a box of Frogs, but of course that could be taken the wrong way on this forum.
15.
Obviously all depends on age, size and buyer, but these are average prices in our region 53 (I've been selling sheep here for 5yrs now!)
And whether you prefer the blonde one or not[:P]
16. Yes, of course what you had originally told the DVLA was that the Vendor had exported the vehicle. What should have happened was that he should have sold it to you in the UK, then you subsequently export it. Well, a lesson for us all. Best of luck with the letter writing. You may be asked to prove that you bought the vehicle though.
17. One of the best places to get second-hand furniture is Emmaus, a charity which sells all sorts of second-hand goods, but mainly furniture. To find your nearest place, look here http://www.emmaus-france.org/contacts/index.php
18.
Someone has to say it................What a catastrophe weedon
Surely that can only be the case if you then get the head mounted on a plaque?
19.
though the old lady's nephew (her only living relative) was pretty narked to learn on her eventual death that he had not inherited it as he thought he might. Angela
But presumably he did inherit the proceeds from the sale, unless she had squandered the whole lot?
20. Can you not register it in the UK in your name care of a relation there?
21. There is a height barrier at each telepeage entrance, so overheight would certainly not be possible. How they would know you have a small trailer though, I am not sure, as long as you get a move on when the barrier goes up, to make sure it doesn't come down on the trailer. I note that Sanef have just announced an offer, get the transponder for 1€ per month if you elect to get your bills by email. It seems that those who are already subscribers can also change to this new tarif. Follow the links from www.sanef.fr
22.
Not quite. I bought a Tom Tom go 700 from Luton Airport last year, for use in France. It is brilliant. It comes preloaded with Europe down to street level. The amazing thing is it even has the names of individual farms in rural France, which is so useful as most of the places I go to are out in the country. Paul
Sorry, my information was wrong then. I read that on another forum. The Garmin mapping also has individual farms and hamlets listed.
23.
Are they usable on the Toll Peage south of Nantes, the A83 I think. Also I have bicycles mounted on a trailer, is the 2M rule absolute, i.e. do I have any room to play with? Joe
They are usable on all French autoroutes. However, you cannot use them with a trailer, or if the vehicle is over 2m high, unless you go to the normal pay booth, and then hand the transponder to them. I think they can bill to your account this way,but you might as well use cash or a card then anyway.
24. So where did the Pochard contract this virus Chris? The timeline I saw on our TV in the UK suggested that both the Pochard and the Turkeys became ill at about the same time. Considering that 80% of the turkey flock died before they could be culled, it suggests that the virus was in there for a little while. So is there a possibility that the pochard contracted it from the turkeys????
25. My Garmin does that. It came with detailed mapping for the whole of western europe, though I think that the very cheapest Garmin units only come with preloaded maps, which will only be one country. Mine is an older Streetpilot III. The Quest also has european mapping. I think that the Tom Tom again only has mapping for one country.
