  1. Having just purchased some land near Percy to build a house we would like to support the anti-pylon cause.  We are unable to make the meeting in St Sever because of a prior engagement that we can't get out of but is there anything that we can sign to show our support?  I will be purchasing stickers for the cars now I know where I can get them.  I will also ask our new Mayor (who we know already) if the commune have signed up to protest.
  2. My husband works in the IT industry and we have three children in Primary School here in France.  We are very happy that they are not sat in front of a computer for the best part of the day as they were in the UK.  They are learning to write, spell, read and calculate sums without the aid of a computer.  They are very happy and doing very well.  They are doing some work with computers and that is good too, but I am a firm believer in them learning the basics well, before they go on to work more closely with technology.  Hopefully then, when technology fails them some time in life as it invariably will, they won't go to pieces like so many youngsters do because they don't have spell checker or a calculator in front of them. I don't think these forward thinking teachers should be frowned upon but I don't think we should look upon computers as the be all and end all either as they seem to in English Primary Schools.
  3. You're not my best friend anymore...... My dad's bigger than your dad...... Or even If you're not with us, you must be against us! See a similarity here anyone? I personally haven't viewed George Bush the same way since I saw 2dTV.  How accurate was that.  I am not anti American but I have to say he comes across as the most insincere person I have ever seen.  Sorry guys.  Regardless of what he is talking about he seems to be smirking.  Why is that?
  4. We have to provide a list of the vaccinations our children have had on a form provided by the school.  They have just had their daisy prick test for TB and now have to go back for the jab.  Our youngest is three.  I believe they are supposed to have it before they go to school.  Not sure about MMR.  All ours have had this up to date in the UK. PS Welcome to the Forum...Sorry I'm not awake yet!
  5. This story fills me with dread.  We have just signed a contract with a building company for our new house.  After two false starts, one with a company who were rumoured to poach their clients land before they bought it and one who were never on time for appointments outside the office(one of which we gave up on after two hours) and then added a substantial amount of money to the bill the day we were supposed to sign the contract etc etc..... Our builder as we understand it are regional and not national and so far they have been very professional.  He even knows our bank manager!  I hope we are doing the right thing!  They can't all be bad.  Will let you know how we get on.
  6. I am sure you can buy big bags of wild bird seed in places like Point Vert or Agrial.  I think that is where we bought ours.
  7. All varnish needs removing from table and chairs but it won't need to be sandblasted, just the original coat as far as I can make out.  I would like them waxed if that is a better finish.  Some of the 8 chairs need repairing and the seats need replacing( I have the foam and fabric already).  The two armchairs need the varnish removing from the wood frame and if possible, new covers.   The armchairs are currently not very pretty but they are very comfortable which is why I would like to keep them.
  8. I know someone who dog sits but it is in her own home with her animals.  She does not provide kennels they live in the home environment.  Our dog stayed with her and was very happy.  She lives near Torigni sur Vire but if you are travelling that way anyway she may be of use.  If you want her details please let me know.
  9. Hi, we are not near you and can't help directly but our local saddlers rent out a horse trailer and it's possible that you may have one near you that does the same.
  10. I am looking for someone to give me a quote to restore some dining chairs, large circular dining table with leaf extension and possibly two wooden armchairs.  Any ideas anyone?
  11. Hi, I copied and pasted and it worked if you leave off the http etc... Try www.debatpublic-THTcotentin-maine.org
  12. Hi Will, Could you please tell me where you found your piccie to put under your name on the Forum.  It has been bugging me who it reminds me of and then it came to me in a flash. See the portrait of Mildred Natwick on  www.colorpro.com/wmdawes/natwick-obit.htm Hope that works.  Does anyone else see a similarity or have I had too much Calvados and sunshine Thanks
  13. We have just sold our house with the intention of going for a new build.  In the meantime we are going to need a house to rent around the Percy area for 10 months to a year.  We will need a minimum of three bedrooms and garden with possibly a small area of rough land(not essential).  Preferably not too close to the main road.  We are looking at paying approximately 500 Euros per month for the right house.  If you have something or know of anything in your area please let me know.  It does not have to be in Percy but close enough for a comfortable school run.  Many thanks.
  14. Oh Dick, I think you may have found the only instance in which my vote would not go to the animals....Aaaaaaaah!
  15. Sure Miki, no problem.  I vote that animals may not be the "dumb" creatures that we keep treating them as, that's all. It's so good to be able to have this discussion without anyone showing signs of stress or agression.  This surely puts us higher up the intelligence scale.
  16. Hi Miki, I didn't realise I was speaking for anyone in particular and if my post in any way caused offence to you I am devastated.  I thought that I was in fact, stating the obvious.  As a race, we are destroying our planet.  You only have to pick up a newspaper, turn on the television or in some places, look out of the window to see that.  I don't personally think we are living the best we can.  I think, if we all put in more effort (and I include myself in this) then I think we could make vast improvements in our environment which includes taking better care of our (in some cases) long suffering domestic and wild animals.
  17. Hmmm, exactly how many creatures are there on this planet who knowingly destroy the environment on which they rely to survive.  Just the one methinks!  So, who is the more intelligent. My vote goes to the animals.  Somewhere along the way the human race lost it's ability to live in harmony with planet Earth.  Sad for us all.
  18. We have just sold our house and hope to be having a new build if all continues to go to plan.  We are looking for a property to rent from approximately the end of October and into the New Year.  We will need at least three bedrooms and it will need to be reasonably close to Percy for school.  We do have some pets but they are well behaved and are not allowed on the furniture.  We will need a washing machine.  If you think you may be able to help please let me know as soon as possible. Many thanks.
  19. You could be more right than you know.  It had been our intention to only have one dog but we couldn't leave her where she was (I should have MUG tatooed across my forehead).
  20. Female approx. 2 years old.  We aquired her from a local farmer who had no time for her.  She was filthy, nearly bald and not very happy.  She is now clean with a coat of black/tan/white.  She has a lovely temparament and now responds to the name Pepper.  She is good with our dog and the children.  Cats she is learning to avoid as we have four.  We are in Manche (50), 25 minutes south of St Lo.  Can anyone offer her a good home with a secure garden?
  21. Anyone had any experience of this company, www.transmancheferries.com Prices look very reasonable even in high season - Newhaven to Dieppe.  We will try them out next week.  Hadn't previously heard of them.  It's not Speedferries but if it saves such a long drive then I'm not complaining.
