1. Tried to post this question yesterday, here goes again: Being a bit thick about these things, how do you access an email server, say Free, from a different ISP? Many thanks for your help. RP
2. Blimey, that must be painful for the lizards, 2cm would be about 1/3 the length of the ones in our garden .....!

Wasp Powder

Never looked for it myself, but have you tried bricos and garden centres, they would seem the logical places?
4. Why doesn't one of you who have never broken a speed limit ever or anywhere start campaigning for motor manufacturers to have to restrict speeds on their cars .....................  If the cars were unable to go so fast, there wouldn't be the problem with people doing 221kph or similar, would there?  Drivers are the main problem, antiquated speed limits on motorways don't help either.  People driving too slowly on all types of road  and those who are no longer fit to drive are no safer.   Locally a man was killed on the motorway because he was driving in the wrong direction, not the first incident of this type of road death.  He was 79
5. Don't know about camping-specific stores, but you can buy tents in major supermarkets/hypermarkets, the country is awash with them!
6. Well, confused I am ...... Went to the Poste expecting to pay €16 for sending a parcel to UK weighing about 1.5kg.  I came out having chosen the prioritaire option over économique and paid €11 (would have been €7 for écono) as per their tarifs courrier.  Lady in the Poste said it was OK for anything under 2kg, but this confused me as it was definitely a parcel shape and size, just didn't weigh too much.  I did, however, have to make a customs declaration unlike last time I sent a small parcel to the UK.  So, as I said, confused ......
7. To quote from the "Colis - tarifs au départ de France métropolitaine 1er mars 2006" leaflet:  ATTENTION:  Le produit Cois Economique International n'est pas admis pour la zone A (Union Européenne, Suisse et Norvège). So, as far as I understand it, there is no 'snail mail'service for parcels to the UK, you have the option of 'Colissimo International' or 'Colissimo Emballage International'.
8. You should be able to listen again on bbc.co.uk.
9. When I was in UK I tried to return the requested receipt, but it came back to me!  UK post office obviously only read my address not the one on the other side, though it has to be said that the design of the coupon leaves (left) a little to be desired.  Maybe this is why nobody else has received the receipt back in France?  I think I might have ended up putting the coupon in an envelope and posting it AGAIN! As per other reply, the "économique" service no longer exists - which will make Christmas presents even more expensive to mail home .....
10. "quelque soit le nombre" means "whatever the number"   Hope this helps!
11. Any rosé "gris" ,such as Listel, is nice and dry.
12. This morning's news on the radio said there will be a strike next Tuesday, 28th March.  Best thing surely is to check with BF?
13. Not sure about petrol stations, but I have successfully and easily used UK chip and pin in supermarkets (your instructions even come up on the machine in English ......), so would hope that it should be the same for fuel.
14. Does it go back to WW2 and restrictions ........?
15. Hope it doesn't sound too obvious, but why not just press the "TV guide" button and scroll through the TV guide section .........?
16.
Can anyone help me with an internet supplier of more serious academic type books (eg Psychology) which does not charge p and p. Amazon usually have what I want but their p and p often removes any disc...
Have you tried looking on www.amazon.fr under "livres en anglais", postage on books from this site is free!  I have recently bought a number of TEFL books which might have been more expensive per item than the .co.uk price, but lack of p&p and speed of delivery made up for that and worked out very well.
17. Just bought a (cheap) French keyboard and plugged it in to my UK-bought computer.  The keys look right for a French keyboard, but when I strike them the equivalent of the UK key is posted.  I've tried the "add hardware" option on the control panel, but no change.  Am I missing something or is the keyboard just not compatible? Thanks for any help. RP

Contraceptive pill

Just take the information sheet from inside your pack of UK pills and show to your doctor in France, he/she will be able to find the nearest equivalent in France based on the make-up of your pill.  I had no trouble when I changed, I think the pill itself is the same, just different manufacturer and product name.
19. Yes, sorry, omitted to state that our Sky card is registered to a Welsh address, so 104 is S4C.  A further event since yesterday afternoon is the arrival of another Channel 4 - on 117 - in addition to that on 964.  117 is much convenient when scrolling through to see what's on as we are now able to see ITV2 and ITV3 on 118 and 119 respectively (not exactly overexcited about their arrival, though, it has to be said).
20. .. seems to have moved from channel 151 to channel 964.
21. No that it's important, but aren't there 8 bank holidays in UK (1 Jan, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 2 in May, 1 in August, Christmas Day and Boxing Day)?  French people are always amazed when they find out that if a UK bank holiday falls on a weekend then it is taken the following Monday.  And yet the UK media is always bemoaning how few hols there are compared to the rest of Europe ....
22.
Two of my neighbours have asked if I will help their children with their English studies. Both are girls, one just starting her second year of English classes at school and the other aged about 6/7. I...
A friend of mine just uses the child's school text book.  If not, search for TEFL sites, many of which have ideas and worksheets.  If not what about Amazon.co.uk under TEFL books. Good luck, hope it goes well.
