One of those rare HAPPY moments in France
Pierre ZFP replied to NormanH's topic in Sport, Leisure and Pastimes
Wish I could be there instead of being stuck in an office ***Sigh*** -
It's that time for the best of the Edinburgh Fringe http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-37154550 But my favourite from the bottom of the article..... "In France, J-Lo is called 'I have water'" [:D]

It's probably me being a bit 'retentive' but I think that's a really interesting site. It would seem that as long as you're using 2 pin euro plugs you'll be fine Europlugs are compatible with the following types of sockets: CEE 7/3 (Schuko), CEE 7/5 (French), SEV 1011 (Swiss), CEI 23-50 (Italian), DS 107-2D1 (Danish), SI 32 (Israeli) and IEC 60906-1 and other outlets that accept plugs with two round pins, 19 mm apart. I've always thought that there's no chance of the EU being unified if they can't even agree one standard for Lecktrickery sockets

French / Spanish border - A9, holdups?
Pierre ZFP replied to Judith's topic in Travelling to/from France
You could always try the(free) Tom Tom live traffic map. Something like THIS It's not showing any holdups at the moment. -
It seems that Miss Victoria Lynn has been busy other keyboard with other highly plausible requests http://archives.aox.org/archives/pgsql-announce/32807

Yeah I thought a few bucketfuls of javel might do the trick [;-)] What beggars belief is that this is the pinnacle of the event on a world stage and they can't get the water right.

Could you not slip in a small typo? Instead of 'distinguƩ' use 'dƩguisƩ' [6]

My new meter is about the size of a thick paperback book. It has a small display panel and 2 buttons. My old meter was much bigger and also in a cupboard and they replaced it with no mess or fuss. I think they must be used to meters in cupboards
-
Yes apparently it is. Mine was done a couple of months ago. They did most of the whole village in one go then came back for the stragglers. I couldn't get to my place but my lovely neighbour let them in to change the meter. It took about 15 minutes to do. A good thing from my point of view as I will get more accurate bills instead of claiming a refund each year as I don't use much Leccy. Also my meter was so old I think it was installed before electricity was invented so I was due for an upgrade.

Or is it just a lot of pea green soup? http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/37029833 Quite unacceptable I would have thought.

What are the best French baby names for a girl ?
Pierre ZFP replied to lucastamiller's topic in Pregnancy and Birth
I used to know a Marie-Pierre which always sounded odd to me and I have a work colleague Pierrette which again doesn't sound quite right -

You can avoid the A16 viaducts by taking the D96 and D901 just before Boulogne. That way the only bridge you cross is the Pont du Briques which is not really a bridge at all. Years ago, before the A16, that was the only viable route out of Boulogne anyway. From Disneyland back to Calais is flat farmland and I can't recall any significant bridges etc.

My handwriting always was, and still is terrible - I should have been a doctor. I think it has something to do with wanting to get ideas down on paper before they evaporate. My bad handwriting got me into much trouble at school with detentions and 'do-overs'. I flummoxed my wonderful English teacher as I always did well in exams but got marked down for presentation so I asked 'what is more important, what I write or how it is written?' No answer [:)] I feel vindicated in not writing well as if we were meant to, God wouldn't have given us laser printers [geek]

There would have been 6 but the Marquis de Sade got thrown out the week before for shouting rude things down a drainpipe to passers by Highly amusing take on it HERE -
I think I'll stick with something they are likely to know rather than get into long and involved explanations. I still remember the 'Raining cats and dogs' incident [:-))]

This is a well timed thread. I will be explaining to a friend why I will not be using my own place in the upcoming long weekend as my son and his girlfriend have bagged it!
