  1. All I can say is 'Better than they used to be' which isn't saying a lot I know. The E403 (A17) is 2 lane and as with many Belgium motorways, the surface isn't the best. If you can avoid the usual rush hours on weekdays you should be OK.  Oh yeah, Sunday afternoons in the summer can get bad as everyone in Bruxelles returns from the coast.
  2. Yes and it's easy to do.  No fiddling with little screws etc.  In fact the whole thing goes together and folds up again very easily which is another plus. There are accessories available like 'Log Jaws' but I they are around £20.  I think I'll be getting my welder out at the weekend for a little experimentation [geek]
  3. How is it that this didn't make UK news?  or If it did then I didn't see it. A 1,000 cars torched ????  Ok I accept that more than a few would be owners getting rid of a wreck for the insurance but even so that can't be right. In these days of heightened security due to terrorist attacks who can say that some of these were not hate crimes?
  4. Well, in the end I went for a Superjaws Lovely piece of kit.  A bit heavy at 22 kg but my goodness it's strong and stable. I think I'll be devising some sort of flat deck (like B&D workmate but I already have used it for clamping some wood I needed to saw 5 stars recommended
  5. So can I deduct from the 'Notional Rent' the notional interest on a notional mortgage I would have to take out to buy my place, notionally?
  6. Sounds very good.  The only thing I would add is some chilli but that's just me [:P] I fancied some of my leeks at the weekend but there was a little problem. I have grown them in raised beds (and yes they could be bigger because I didn't water them enough) but I couldn't get the damn things out as the ground had frozen solid. After a lot of hacking I liberated a few.  They tasted good but maybe that was because of the hard work to get them!
  7. A troubled man in many way but full of wisdom. I did like his 'Thought for the Day'
  8. Well that's still better than what I was told in Malta 'What side of the road do you drive on?' 'In the shade' That's largely true too
  9. The only joke is why there has not been one single successful prosecution of this barbaric practice.  I can't imagine that it's done in a too sanitary way so some of these poor girls must end up in hospital with infections and the cause must be easy to identify
  10. Seems to be a very general definition including verbal and/or physical abuse or not treating everyone equally. see HERE
  11. This sort of discussion has probably been going on forever. 'A wheel you call it? What's wrong with dragging stuff around?' Or the weaving loom or ..... Yes I like computers, they have provided me with a very good living over the years and the one thing that has kept me grounded is a lecturer on a PL/1course (anyone remember PL/1?) He said 'A computer can count from 0 to 1, everything else is an illusion' But using/not using a computer is not mutually exclusive. There was an extremely interesting program on BBC a few days ago about the Astrolabe which was described as 'The GPS of it's day' Do I use GPS? Yes Do I know how to use an astrolabe? Yes
  12. Remember, a turkey is for Christmas, not for life.... EDIT:  Ah dammit, I've just seen that PaulT beat me to it in his signature line
  13. When you said you correct them when they say "oh your english" I thought you were going to say "you mean 'Oh you're English'" [6] Grammar police rooole [geek]
  14. I'm not a dog person so don't take this as Gospel but I seem to remember some restriction in France to keeping more than 4 dogs at one address?  I'm sure someone who knows better will be along soon
  15. I remember years ago a BBC feature about Ron Hickman (I assume) and his workmate. Very interesting, he had a really hard time getting anybody interested (eventually B&D) and then an even harder time defending his Patents
  16. Hmm yes, I think that is the way to go Thanks to all for their advice
  17. Workmate on steroids! Love it!  I mostly use it for carpentry and the like but the old one was severely tested at times supporting car engines and gearbox, unreasonably  large tree trunks etc. Thing is that OH was going to get me one for Christmas so probably not best to root around on ebay for it.
  18. After many, many years and a huge amount of use and abuse, my Black and Decker Workmate has decided to call it a day. I can't complain as I've had it for 30+ years and it has performed above and beyond the call of duty. So, I must replace it but the reviews I have read all say that the new ones are not a patch on the original models.  Also, the Bosch and Wolf brands are not any better. Does anyone have first hand experience or recommendations of these things before I make a fairly expensive mistake? Many thanks
  19. I used to make Christmas pud but since I'm the only one in my household that likes it, I decided it was too much faff and so I buy a Waitrose or Tesco's finest one which does very well for me. To go with it?  Custard and plenty of it [:P] oh and vanilla ice cream too [:P][:P]
  20. There's more gold under Wall Street than in Fort Knox, specifically under Goldman Sachs.
  21. It doesn't matter about most of the items. Fifth, sixth and seventh will  surely kill us all
  22. Why don't you just disable mobile data? That's what I do on my Android phone so I can only connect to data services with wi-fi.  Everything else is blocked.
  23. Well Gluestick, that's a fine looking machine but a bit overkill for my use of few Sos now and then. I think I'll try and find the Kenwood mixer attachment or hunt out a hand turned one like Idun (Although I suspect I might need more than just 2 hands!)
