  1. This is a great site for free stuff on the web, I subscribe to the newsletter and always find something of interest when it comes through. http://www.journaldugratuit.com Give me your opinions.

    Anybody tried some Paul Verlaine?
  3. I'm not sure if it's the same as in England, but it could be to do with the REN numbers of your particular handsets, possibly sapping some power somwhere along the line!
  4. Our directory just seems to turn up on the doorstep, even though we live in the back of beyond! The shop you bought the TV from will register your name and address with the TV authorities who will duly send you a bill for the licence, in our case almost a year after we moved in!!
  5. If your equipment isn't ancient you should be ok, I record stuff on my French VCR and it plays fine on my English TV. As to the licence, if you've bought a TV in France you will eventually receive a bill for said licence because the shop registers your name and address and has to send it to the relevant authorities, if you've brought the TV over from England then just keep quiet! Regards L.
  6. AS mentioned by 'slast', Teleconnect seem to be the cheapest at the moment. All international calls are charged at 7 centimes a minute, plus you get a happy hour of your choice every day whereupon the rate goes down to 4 centimes. There's no subscription charge and local/national calls are extremely cheap too, if anyone wants their phone number let me know. ps. The operators speak both English and French.
  7. This may be of no use to you but Canal + have TCM on channel 128 for free, just a thought if you miss it!
  8. Best thing to get is just canal+ which will give you French football as well as a good roundup of European, including English, footie on a Sunday evening in L'quipe du Dimanche. For your wife it also plays 3 or 4 fairly recent blockbuster type movies a week, you can program your box to 'diffuse' them in English with French subtitles, regards L.
  9. I can't recommend someone in your area but I just went to my local TV/HI FI shop and got them to install the dish and box for 80 Euros!
  10. I've experienced loads of problems with Wanadoo and Outlook Express so changed over to Tiscali and haven't looked back!
  11. Watch 'Les Visiteurs', then you'll laugh!
  12. Albums : 'La Maison' by Gabin, anything by 'Costes' and 'Gotan Project', if your into a French and Latin American sound mixed together. Books : Guy De Maupassant, the true inventor of the short story. Films : Les 400 coups by Truffaut but also try Luis Bunuel. Cheers L.
  13. AOL, are you mad!! After trying most ISP's I've found Tiscali the best and AOL an absolute no no. As already mentioned you'll have to check the USB friendliness and age of your equipment.
  14. Merry Christmas to you, thanks for your help regarding my FTV card, we managed to get it activated using a friends English mobile, only took 30 seconds!! As to your computer problems I would agree 100% with Mazan, it's a dodgy or corrupt CD, I've had the same problem!! Cheers L.
  15. I've just received an FTV card which was bought by my father in law in England, the problem is getting it activated! He lives in the Midlands and technically cannot receive FTV satellite TV yet, even though they quite happily took 23.50 off him. I have numerous friends in England who are happy to phone up and get the card activated whilst it's in my box here but what does this entail? I can give them all my box details but do they get asked any other questions,ie their postcode because the card was sent to my Beau Pre's address etc? If possible I'd like this sorted asap before Christmas as my wife and almost 4 year old daughter are driving me potty for UK TV!! Thanks for any help, cheers L.
