  1. You could try the website for part loads going from a to b - www.loadup.co.uk  - you specify the dates and then drivers contact you to arrange the delivery. You might get a lot of calls so be prepared! pb
  2. Did you drill holes in the beams Alan - or just applied it to the surface? pb
  3. Thank you both. Will draft something. Many thanks for your help. pb
  4. Thanks, Quillan and nounours - excuse me for being thick but the ebay site does not look like their auction sites - presumably this is just an ad and stays there for the requisite number of days? Having looked at the other ads they are just that - or am I missing something? pb
  5. Thanks Quillan - had looked at Expatica and it doesn't seem very active. Does anyone else have any bright ideas? - I am obviously trying to be proactive here! pb
  6. Hello - we are selling a plot with permis de construire in our village in France. Local agent employed to do this, but I would also like to advertise on line to French, Dutch, Belgian or wherever/whoever might be best. Have tried Leboncoin but without a French telephone number they do not accept the ad. As I am currently in the UK, any other ideas for websites would be welcomed. Thanks. pb
  7. My husband makes oak doors in the uk and could bring them - pm me for the website or other info
  8. When the man came to look at the hayloft to do the traitement des bois, he mentioned a product for spraying in spring and autumn which is fine for spraying on walls and furniture etc, which lasts till the next time against cluster flies. He didn't mention the name of the product but suggested it was the only effective method - has anyone used a good product - we had a big problem last year. pb
  9. Hello Assume Calva is calvados? thought I should check. pb
  10. We did the same thing with a too - long  log and took the door into Weldom where they cut a new piece of glass to size. It is relatively expensive because it is fire-proof quality, obviously. OH did a similar thing to my windscreen on the way back from the brico with some long lengths of wood - saw a gendarme when driving with boot open so pulled in and slammed the boot down - trip then required to Brive to find the windscreen shop (eventually found it at the other side of the town  ) and a wasted afternoon waiting for it to be fitted.....
  11. If you have a bank account solely for expenses and don't receive any interest on the account, is there any need to declare? We are UK resident with house just as residence secondaire - and pay our French taxes accordingly. PB
  12. Last week took parsnip collection as planned. Much hilarity over the veg themselves - which by the way are in our local Intermarche too - anyway our neighbour is full of enthusiasm to plant the seed and she took great delight in cooking the veg - with apple, sauteed, served with duck aiguilettes and creamy mash - for us all,  on our last night - yummm...PB
  13. Hello - Any news on Brive? Is it still on schedulr for next year? Any news of a UK carrier or airport? Went past last week although couldn't see much from the road. PB
  14. How about Montignac in 24? World music festival in summer; not completely off the map in winter; some good restaurants; lovely river running through (Vezere) and pretty countryside around...
  15. The other good thing about parsnips is they are available to eat now and a (new) packet of seed can be planted on a fine day in January...another idea is the 'salad bowl' type lettuce as this can be cut again and again (doesn't heart up ) PB
  16. We have had many amusing conversations with our French neighbours about parsnips - they have no idea what they are. So when we go down next week I am going to take a few in a bag, and some seed - and some of the roast vegetable crisps which they love and which started the whole discussion...PB
  17. Personally I would recommend a hard wax oil, applied with a brush. Take care when you are chosing the oil becaus some have a tendency to go a bit orangey - we have used both Osmo and Fiddes. Natural satin finish is as near natural as you can get - but there are 'limed' effect which is whitish - mainly in the grain - or slightly darker ones if you prefer. Touching up later does not mean stripping it all off - just reapply as necessary. Our lounge is straight off the pavement and we haven't re-done it yet - applied four years ago. Hope this helps. PB
  18. We are in a similar position - the first agent we approached could not make a decision on price - puttting off the day when he had to  - 'wait for the full plans'; ' wait for the full permis de construire'; 'wait for the eight week delai' etc; we went to a different agent who seemed much more on the case - but, we have had to ask him to list the property on his website - although promised weeks ago - and asked him if he could be proactive with his local builder clients - it is quite a unique (if small) plot within the curtilage of a 'protected' village. Although he seemed enthusiastic, I wonder if he really believes his own valuation  - or whether he is just humouring us. I plan to list on one or two other sites myself - just to be doing something....PB
  19. House is let furnished . I would like to keep things as simple as possible so micro regime sounds more sensible I think. Can I choose this myself? I have artisan invoices for repairs; PB
  20. This has just rung a rather big bell - hadn't realised there was a deadline either - we have rented out our little house - originally for a few months but it has been extended to a year as tenant's new build has not progressed as fast as she thought. Rental commenced last November. What are the allowable expenses? - Can I assume that maintenance/repairs purchase of heating etc might be allowable? Is there anything else I might have overlooked? Advice please - I will of course download the forms as suggested earlier in this thread. As with the OP I am resident in UK most of the time. PB
  21. Thanks very much for your suggestions - Firefox is SO much quicker and no dumping. What joy!  PB
  22. Thank you Sue and Will. Shall try your suggestions. PB
  23. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Still happening with monotonous regularity. THanks pb
