1. To be precise (and pedantic) they are all listed as "destinations" - none of them are decribed as countries.[:D] Danny
2.
Free? VOIP?? We are paying 7€/month for ours. Have things changed yet again pray tell?  That's plus 3€/month for the Livebox.
Yes, things have moved on. The packages with 7 euros extra are way out of date now. The cheapest all in package (without FT line charge) is now 33.90 ( +3 more for the livebox rental) http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/livebox-zen.aspx?idnode=110414003 3 more euros on top if you want unlimited calls to French mobiles too. Danny
3. Ab, no problem to print an email on Windows live mail here. Windows 7 PC and an HP PSC1215 which is very similar to yours. I would suggest uninstalling the printer and reinstalling to see if that helps. To uninstall: Start button, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Printers. Right-click the printer that you want to remove, and then click Delete. If you can't delete the printer, right-click it again, click Run as administrator, and then click Delete. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Reboot the computer. For reinstallation, the printer should be automatically recognised in Windows 7 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02658990&cc=uk&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=90787#N604 Danny
4. Just to clarify/expand on what BJSLIV says, With your package, you have two means of connecting to the internet. 1 - the ADSL connection via the phone line 2 - the dongle connection via the mobile phone network The internet connection via the livebox is unlimited, you leave the livebox on all the time for any internet access and calls via the telephone plugged in to the livebox. This is what you should use for all internet usage at home for all your computers. On the other hand, the internet connection using the dongle is not unlimited and you will use up your allowance very quickly. You can top it up for more downloads but it is expensive. So do not use the dongle if you are at home. It is meant for limited occasional use elsewhere. Danny
5. Sorry Ab, more questions... when you say "get a copy" and "trying to copy" do you mean printing? What is your "mail box"? Is this in Internet explorer -  for example Orange messagerie, or Hotmail - or in an email program like Live Mail or Outlook express? Danny
6. Do you mean PSC 1100? 110 seems not to exist. What information appears on the screen? Danny
7. There is this coupon available still at the moment http://orange.degrouptest.com/pdf/2011-06-16/odr50-tvsat.pdf 50 euros back if you show proof of a reciept for purchanse of satellite stuff or for installation by a professional. Danny
8. Alpinist, it could be one or more of many things..... The actual dish is unlikely to be faulty. It is just a dish. I would suspect a faulty LNB or more simply just a badly aligned dish If you have never done dish alignment before, it is one of those things which seem impossible until you have done it a few times. Then it seems fairly easy. Once you find a sat (you have to know which one you have found!) the you need to tweak/make fine adjustment for the maximum signal strength, - left right, up down and the twist of the LNB in its holder. A new universal LNB (10 euros ish) may be useful if you still cannot get anything. Danny PS You have selected the HDMI 1 input on your TV, haven't you!!!
9.
Thanks Everyone Looks like we will be without TV for a while. At least we know what's wrong. Thanks for all your help.
In case you did not understand, there is no mainstream UK TV with Orange. It is mostly French channels with only a few news channels in English. Danny
10.
might it be worth a rant on the English helpline?
I don't think that will get you anywhere. Orange (among others) have been accused of limiting speeds from certain (usually video) sites but they deny doing this. here for example http://www.numerama.com/magazine/17815-megavideo-denonce-le-bridage-par-orange.html Here are 60 pages of French forum posts to wade through on this very subject http://www.forum-orange.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=19152 Danny
11.
Any options available at this stage?
Patience... Danny
12.
The Livebox @ symbol is flasing Red quickly which I think means that we have connected to the livebox
No, this means that your livebox is on but it is unable to connect to the internet.
Do we need a telephone socket in the house for Orange Livebox to work?
I see a clue here which may explain the flashing red light....[:-))] Did you not even look at the pictures in the manual like on this page which show how to connect everything up? http://assistance.orange.fr/livebox-2-branchements-1018.php Danny EDIT You answered before I got this post finished EDIT
13. If you do not have your Orange Internet access codes to set up the Livebox connection then your Livebox is not connected to the Internet. That is why you cannot see any web pages even if your wifi (wireless connection) from the laptop to the Livebox is now working. If you use your dongle to connect directly (you did not mention the Internet Orange Anywhere before), you are acessing the internet via the mobile phone network and not via your livebox. You only have a limited amount you can download via this method and it gets used up very quickly, so beware. I repeat, in order to establish the internet connection to your Livebox, you need the codes that come on your letter from Orange or if you do not want to wait, call them up and ask them. Danny
14. It is asking for the security key for the wifi to connect to the Livebox. The default security key is found on the livebox label and you need to enter it in uppercase and without spaces. If you still cannot connect there may be anoher problem with the settings. Can you connect by ethernet cable as shown in the page I linked to? Then
15. Here is the installation page in English. I recommend the manual installation. http://assistance.orange.fr/install-livebox-2-4561.php You still need the ADSL (broadband) username and ADSL (broadband) password to establish the internet connection. Danny
16. Just to confirm, the adsl access passwords and the Email/espace client passwords are sent by post. If you don't want to wait, you can call up the English speaking line to get them. Most modern telephones bought in France will be fine plugged in to the livebox (not livewire!) for your inclusive calls. They will usually say compatible 'box ADSL' on the outside box. There is a list of compatible phones on Orange's site but it is quite limited and lots of others are fine. I am not quite sure though which password you need. When you say "so I plugged in the Livebox to the wall and pressed connect on my laptop for the internet and it asked for a password. I don't have one. Where do you get the password from ?" Are you referring to the password to set up the ADSL connection or the security key to connect to the livebox by WiFi? Danny
17. Clair, remember to get him to check the rotation or skew (contre-polarisation) of the LNB in its holder for maximum signal quality. This can make a huge difference. The actual twist away from vertical depends on your location. It is probably not too different to ours here. For Astra 1satellite, the cable should be pointing down from the LNB probably somewhere between 7 o'clock and six o'clock (vertical) if that helps. Just rotate it a little at a time and tighten up the lock screw to fix the LNB in the position with the strongest signal. Danny
18. PS if you don't want the inclusive unlimited calls to French mobiles, then you may be better with the Livebox Zen instead and save 6 euros per month.
19. Yes, there should be no problem at all setting it up in the Orange shop, assuming that the line is eligible for ADSL. This is a minimum 12 month subscription. The Orange internet packages are the same price if you want TV or not. TV is by ADSL if your line is suitable and by satellite (on your own dish) if not. If you want to keep (and pay 16 euros p/m for) your fixed FT line, the internet package is 5 euros cheaper. It should all be up and running within 15 days, sometimes less. No idea how it is for Orange in your area. The actual speed and quality of connection really depends more on the line quality than the provider. Danny
20.
Thank you Danny but that's not the problem. The TV, Internet and voip telephone work fine it's just that when you try to login to read your emails via the Orange website it can't find the page, perhaps you're getting confused with logging in to the Orange adsl connection, which works fine by the way. Outlook on the other hand will login to the same account and retrieve the emails without a problem as will Mailwasher Pro so this is clearly a website problem and nothing to do with the post to which you have kindly pointed to as an explanation.
No, I understood the login to the Orange messagerie/espace client was not working for you and others. It was exactly the same for me too. The forum thread I linked to also mentioned trouble accessing the Orange website as well if you go back a few posts. http://www.forum-orange.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=448671#p448671 it was obviously something which affected a lot of people in different ways. However, it is now working Ok for me....[Www] Danny
Danny
22.
It also lists two different MAC addresses - one is described as a "dLAN MAC" address, the other as a "WLAN MAC" address. I had considered adding one of these addresses manually to the "WiFI Settings/Paired devices" list on the Livebox "Site", but the "add" button is greyed out and won't let me add anything manually.
Have you ticked the box 'enable MAC filtering' (Activer le filtrage MAC ) just above the 'add' (ajouter) button then 'save'(sauver) at the bottom of the page. You should then be able to add items. Don't forget to save after any change. Danny
23. johni, The monthly Orange Internet and VOIP calls contract is for a 12 month minimum subscription so you cannot cancel it any time in the first year. There is no suspension possible with this service either You (normally, on most lines) have the choice of this contract with or without keeping the FT line. If you have a résidence secondaire FT line, then you will continue to pay for the Internet even if you suspend the FT line when you are not there. It may be better value to have the internet/phone service all year without paying for the FT line at all. Cheapest service at the moment without any FT line is 33,90 per month plus the livebox rental if you choose, of 3 euros per month. http://abonnez-vous.orange.fr/residentiel/forfaits/livebox-zen.aspx?idnode=110414003 It is obligatory to use a livebox for the Orange VOIP service but you can also buy one if you do not want to rent one. Or, it may be better to have the r/s FT line and the simple Decouvert internet service at 21 euros which you can cancel with 10 days notice. I suppose it depends how much you are there... Danny
24.
My point was and is that I would caution against downloading updates from anywhere other than the official www.microsoft.com site. Sites with names like http://mse.dlservice.microsoft.com are NOT bona fide Microsoft sites, even though part of the name suggests they might be.
just to clear up one thing, if you do download from www.microsoft.com, you are then redirected to http://mse.dlservice.microsoft.com which is the bonafide Microsoft download centre for Microsoft Security Essentials...
a) Why take the risk of downloading Security Essentials via any website other than www.microsoft.com/security_essentials ??
as Quillan has already said, PPP posted the direct link to this download and it is not from any 'other' website.
