1. hi, thanks for that and yes i already knew that, my neice travelled over last year via that route, just thought it would be nice to put a face to a forum name if there were any takers [:)] hugh.
2. Hi all, being a true Scot and tighter than a duck's behind, i am looking for a lift to Bordeaux Airport on the 4th of February. In all honesty i do need a lift to the airport on the 4th so if anyone is heading there i would be grateful for a lift and more than willing to pay for the fuel there. And if you think that was cheeky, i am returning on the 14th feb to the same airport and would like the same if poss [:D] I am in Riberac and would indeed be very humble and grateful, many thanks, Hugh.
3. Ladies please, i had too much of the hooligan soup when i was back in Scotland over the new year, i meant to say/ask about Angoulemme, is that how you spell it ???? Please allow some recovery time hic !?@~>)*% SCOTS WHA HAE  yes i was shouting ha ha
4. Hi all, any news on the proposed flights to limoges from Stansted ?
5. Would that be hubby dropping his shorts or the real moon [:D]
6. Hypothermia? Was she one of the local gaelic lassies. Oban is the place to have a ball, wall to wall pubs and willing locals [;-)]
7. Chris, the problem you had looking for 'slipperi squeekium' to give them their real name, was due to their camouflage, the tartan effect goes well with dry grasses found near quarries at this time of year. The plain coloured ones tend to be able to blend in, perhaps some type of chemical imbalance? Send in your pointer and he will sniff em out ?
8. Stripped by whom?? if it was the fairer sex then power to ya, if it wasn't then information sharing is not necessary. I must admit that the kilt does attract both genders and had offers from both on many occasions, kept my dignity on all occasions [;-)]
9. well on occasions i did wear the kilt, however thistles, like a certain brand of beer,  'reach parts others cant' and is not pleasureable, well maybe in certain circumstances [;-)]  now we have to be careful here, perhaps chris H will want to be an honoury Scot just to try this, being an outgoing chap !!!
10. my last post was not being derogative to foresters just that if you were at the least bit smart you would opt for something better where you are not continually stooped over and soaking wet, and man hauling trees down to the earth crashing thru brash and ripping your forearms and face to shreds, lovely picture ? Its a bitch of a job but brill in the summer.
11. Back home in Ecosse its still your average guy with little intelligence and a strong back that still rips trees out of the earth and punts them towards the local pulp/paper mill. I think fortunately for the foresters in the game in Scotland have the benefit of being quite steep hills and a continuity of work for years to come. I know some of the hills i planted during my crazy years at this game were so steep the ploughs could not keep a grip and we had to do it with mattocks !!!!!!!!!! i still remember it fondly, probably cos i was fit as a fiddle and the effort was minimal [:D]
12.
Progression of technology over the last few decades hasn't helped, there is a machine to do just about everything nowadays, machines don't need tea breaks or annual holidays and they don't make mistakes. very true chris, but they all still need someone to press the buttons [:D] You must remember the days before forwarders were the in thing and most wood was felled by us ( tree fellers ) and pulled out by horse or tractor, ah the county 4x4, still need folk to work them and there is still a need for tree fellers in Scotland and Wales in the high hills. Machines are great but still need human intervention....
13.
Yes agreed. I don't think the priority boarding works at all. However, the advantage is my husband doesn't have to stand in line to check in because he prints his own ticket by checking in on line. At the moment,  I am here in France overseeing some work and he is travelling back and forth, therefore, with his ticket in hand we don't have to arrive as early in order for him to stand in the ever increasingly long line at Bergerac to check in.
I tried that but was told that i still had to go to the main desk and still get a boarding pass !!!!! and as for priority boarding, still had to fight with the rest of them rushing thru from the back following the ryanair staff in [8-)]
14. The same question to people in the Riberac area, 24. Sorry for the apparent hijack, just thought what a great idea and would test the water here too, best of luck timc17, hugh
15.
I don't know about the area but from my own experience, if you are looking at French artisans, I think March 2007 might be a bit optimistic !! Although one is paying them for their services and thus the "customer is king", I have always felt that such attitudes to local artisans would be the "kiss of death" to ever getting anything done. I try to be as easy going and friendly as possible (beers in fridge, etc.). Given that any who are half decent have full order books, marching in with "references will be required" would cause all round me to just not bother (as there is loads of easier work). However, I can only talk about my own local experience (and what other local have told me). Ian
Where do some people get the idea that only good/half decent artisans have full books, inferring that those who dont have full books are not good. There are people starting off that are well qualified for their respective jobs who have little or no work at present, if a client is told that they can start immediately should that client then assume that the artisans are not good at their chosen profession ?? It really gets to me that people are pigeon holed by the fullness of their order books or by the lack of work backload ?????????????????????
16. there's a company near Riberac called baylet's that stock a big range of lintols, how do you spell lintols/lintels ???? The number is 05 53 91 37 71 or 05 53 91 01 31 they are a builders merchants. They speak little or no English so best of luck, Hugh .
17. Chris, any more on the mysterious dead snake? Was it found near to where you live, sometimes worth while leaving it to see if anything came back for it, if it was indeed a food kill as opposed to defence of area/nest. wonder if we will ever get a conclusion to this one ??
18. Would a jay attack a snake if it was close to its youngsters? May seem a daft thing to say in November but i sat and watched doves nest building today!!! Chris, why are you so sure it would have been eaten within 5 mins, are there cats in the area or perhaps fouine, maybe even the culprits. PS was it lying straight out or curled up??
19. find that one really strange chris, usually other marks where the assailant has had a hold of the snake, hawk or buzzard etc. I don't know of any blackbird size killers with the cohonas to tackle a snake, even one as small as this. Any chance it was a mammal os opposed to feathered, thinking of stoat/weasel type animal failing that an eager heron?? Did you find it in a field by any chance, hugh ...
20. Nick, we had the same problem with a customer several months ago after he courted us for weeks to go to his place. He knew our prices before and had seen the quality of work we produce, that was good enough and he asked us to start. To our surprise he binned us just before we were due to start, resulting in the same position you now find yourself in, fortunately we were able to bring a job forward. People like that need a good ...................................................................... at least once [:D]
21. Hi, just installed skype and was amazed at the amount of people who come on just to swear etc, naivity on my part i know but i was shocked when i registered ' skype me '  as an option, loads of young kids spouting abuse. Made all the better when i spoke to a chap in Victoria, Australia, a retired joiner/cabinet maker who was really pleasant and we had a great chat for 1/2 hour.                                  Hugh.
22. nope, sorry i dont know that one, good quiz this.....[:D]
23. chris, are you saying that the creme brulee you get at home needs more than a spoon, careful or your wife may use the pick on you
24. hi , yes i googled it and got some info, apparently in the biggest in the world is in China, Quitang i think it is called up to 10 mts high and 3 kil  wide and the roar can be heard an hour away. I was looking for info on the rivers here in france that swell up from Bordeaux and travel up the  dordogne, maybe next spring,
25. Hi Cassis, the reason i think they say start from the top is basically one thing. When you apply water to keep the walls wet to aid adhesion if you start from the bottom there is a chance that the water will wash out the mix below, from the top the water will continually soak the stone work below, appliance of science  ( the space martians quote~~ see mash get smash ) Also, if you start at the top, this is the good bit, if you're crap at it, by the time you get to the bottom you're getting better and folks can't see the messy top bit too clearly... da naah enjoy your sunday
