  1. The nearest we have found to your request re bacon is Herta, "Bacon petit dejeuner, Fume au bois d'hetre" 5 slices was about €1.80 I think, from Super U. Bon appetit Graham
  2. I bought our Hygena units in MFI and brought it over as their silly sale price was far cheaper than Hygena over here for the same units. However, I had time to check all the contents carefully before I left the UK - of course there were no problems because I checked! Also you have to consider transportation costs - if you can bung it on an existing load at no extra cost, fine. Otherwise it will eat into any savings. Don't forget the packages are heavy - esp. the worktops. Graham
  3. Does anyone have any tips for removing tiles from dry lined plasterboard walls please? As I try to do so, most of the plaster comes with them leaving virtually nothing behind - except the wall cavity! Thanks, Graham
  4. Saw an item on BBC South East at lunchtime about P&O cutting their Dover/Calais prices "to compete with low cost airlines" - their man did not mention Speedferries! I think they were talking about a £60 fare booked in advance by internet........ Interesting - after they said they wouldn't get into the cut price game. Graham
  5. I can't find anything on the FT website about 3103 (equivalent of 1571) What's it called please and is there a charge? Thanks, Graham
  6. Thanks for that - sound the same as the chevilles, with which I am familiar. But it's always worth checking in case there's a wonder product I'd missed!!   Graham
  7. I found this on Google http://www.01net.com/article/265552.html  Graham
  8. OK, I give up, what are mollies?   Graham
  9. Unless you are very familiar with Dial up Networking it may be worth noting the existing settings before you delete. Also I think it may be worth re-booting after deletion and before creating the new connection. Graham
  10. I was also concerned about insulin availability before I left the UK so I obtained the manufacturer's web address from Google and sent them an e-mail enquiry. It turned out to be the same name in France as in the UK. (However my type is different from the one you quote). Graham
  11. For diabetes,  my answer on a similar question was:- Once you are registered with CPAM (see lots of other threads on this subject) your doctor (see yet more threads on choosing a doctor!) will advise them of any qualifying long term medical conditions (ALD). I don't have to pay for my insulin for example. For medical insurance it depends what level of cover you are looking for. There are a number of threads on this subject. We use Swiss Life. Graham

  13. I asked at our little post office today and madame thought the 50c was going up to 53c - national and for a letter to the UK, so maybe its not quite so bad! Graham
  14. Thanks - there's one in Angouleme, so we'll have a look next time we're in. Graham
  15. Does anyone know of/feel able to recommend a French equivalent of Truprint for a postal service for developing and printing photo films please? If not, which shops offer the best value? Thanks, Graham (16)
  16. Yes I do have a Flex account, an e-savings account and their credit card but I had them all before we left the UK. Graham
  17. Natiowide will let you have an account with an address in France - but they won't pay the interest gross!   Graham
  18. When writing in English and wishing to show who has been copied in on the letter, one puts cc "J Bloggs" etc. at the bottom. Is there a French equivalent for this use of cc please? Graham
  19. If you need to go to the doctor you can and just pay his fee of €20. However, I wouldn't hold my breath for getting anything out of CPAM retrospectively. Others on the forum who've been in your position may be able to advise you better. In the meantime try asking CPAM - I've found them helpful here in 16. Graham
  20. Decathlon sell a variety of equipment but you need one of their larger stores if you want to see more than one type of anything. However their leaflet on gym equipment is quite good and splits it into "ordinary" and "professional" - the latter being more robust (and therefore expensive!) for more frequent use. See also http://www.decathlon.fr/Magasin/sousRayon.asp?int_DeptId=32506&int_deptPereId=4908  Graham
  21. Before posting a question I try to search to see if it has been asked before. However I do not seem to have much success and often get completely unrelated results. I am not a techie but neither am I tech-inept, so am I alone in this problem or do others have limited success too? Graham
  22. Jelly found at "Home from Home" stall in St Jean D'Angely market last Wednesday (along with all sorts of UK stuff like OXO - if you feel the need). Graham
  23. I went to the prefecture in Cognac and was told that I would need to provide a translation of my licence. I was surprised having read other posts here. Subsequently I went to Angouleme, this time showing my green licence with plastic card first, and was told to fill in the form, provide 2 photos, proof of domicile (France Telecom bill), passport and €25. We've been here 6 months but were not asked that. Did this last Wednesday, was told I would receive French licence in 7 days and it turned up 2 days later! Graham
  24. Having just watched Ready Steady Cook I have been reminded how useful filo pastry can be at this time of year. I have found brik pastry but not managed to use it very successfully. Can anybody point me towards any supplies in 16? Thanks. Brenda.
  25. As a very light user, I will not buy a French PAYG 'phone until such time as they stop the thieving practice of cancelling paid for air time if it is not used by the end of the month (or 2 months or whatever). It used to be like that in the UK years ago and it is one quirk of living in France that I find very hard to accept. It is hard enough paying bank charges!! If anyone hears of a company breaking ranks on this, please post here. Sorry, rant over, Graham
