1.
Most of us are not paying income tax this year. Are you noticing changes in your spending power as a result? I certainly am. It just shows how much life is constrained by overtaxation, IMHO.
Should this post be in the jokes section?
2.
If you're not capable of successfully manouevering your way around your shoe cupboard and you're also unable to distinguish your left foot from your right, how could you possibly be responsible for the security and safety of 68 million residents of the GB and NI? Here
A shallow ignorant point of view. 'If most of us are ashamed by of shabby clothing and shoddy furniture let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies... It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it.' Albert Einstein
3. If you are going to be paying the bill I suggest that you tell the insurance agent that you will do it privately and you do not want the claim going through their books. Your NCB is at risk.
4. Paris has a highly developed bike hire network. When my daughter lived there she used the system to do most of her journeys without incurring any charge. Central Paris is very compact and walking is a viable option. https://www.parisinfo.com/paris-pratique/se-deplacer-a-paris/location-de-velos-a-paris
5.
+1 Chessie.
Wind turbines do not remove the energy from the wind the wind accelerates around them causing a vacuum. The wind is caused by differences in pressure between air masses and the effect positioning of wind turbines in its path will be irrelevant within the big picture and trees, buildings and other natural features and man made structures would have a much bigger but still inconsequential impact.
6. Ten months old already! Almost time for the next one. :)
7. I think it’s a great idea. You are keeping your children’s options open.
8. When I was a child we used to drive down to southern Italy every summer, camping. One year we took a large tin of Cadbury’s drinking chocolate with us which, for some reason, had wasps in it. I can remember my mother sieving the powder every time we used it.
9. You should have waited for the blue ones for the full effect. Just out of interest do theirs have European Union on the cover?
10. The best way is to apply to join the French health system through PUMA. https://www.ameli.fr/vienne/assure/droits-demarches/principes/protection-universelle-maladie
11. Couscous is a dish made from semolina (semoule) and water, the basis of taboulé. The word semolina is also given to the sweet pudding made from the grains. The semoule that I buy in France says couscous on the packet.
12. At least ten years ago the ‘status’ of egrets was changed in the U.K. as they became more and more common. They are obviously moving north. How old is your guide? https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/birds/herons-egrets-and-spoonbill/little-egret
13. The CT does not have to be continuous, the insurance does. If you aren’t going to have the car on the road there is no need to have a CT. What I don’t know about is the journey to the CT station when the clutch is fixed and ready to go; in the U.K. you are allowed to drive your un MOTd car to an MOT appointment, I’m not sure if you are in France. I trailered the only non CTd car I’ve needed to take to a CT appointment.
14. When I got the Quittus Fiscal for my older car I was asked if the recorded mileage of under 2000 miles was correct. I pointed out that as it was over 85 years old that was unlikely. Again they realised it was a silly question. By that time I had worked in the car so much to get it into that position I had gained an intimate knowledge of its mechanical and electrical condition. A position I’ve maintained by regular inspection and maintenance. When owning and running a car of that age you tend to spend as much time maintaining and checking as you do behind the wheel. I had to put it through a CT as part of the registration process but that wasn’t worth the paper it’s printed on, they did not check the brakes on the rolling road and can’t have checked the lights, horn or emissions as that would have needed the engine to be running and the tester did not know how to start it. He came and asked me to start it and drive it into the test bay then switch the engine off then asked me to come back at the end to start it and drive it out. Please don’t tell me that a bit of paper telling me that it has passed a CT should give me peace of mind because it has been inspected by an expert and therefore is safer that it was before.
15. What a bizarre response. All I don’t understand is why you seem to think that you are an authority in a game that you clearly don’t understand. It was not a reality TV programme it was a sporting event.
16. You completely misread the semi finals. As I said, it was going to be interesting to see how the final panned out. England won their semi final because they controlled the game and were able to play as they wanted to play, in the final South Africa were in that position. To say that South Africa’s victory is worthless because England turned up looking like a pub team just reinforces the lack of understanding that you demonstrated last weekend. It was a great result for a South Africa, they had the right tactics and the right team to thrash a team who had comfortably beaten the All Blacks a week before. That’s what the South Africans will remember when they sober up.
17. Oh lovely a lecture from a know it all. I really find your answer quite rude! I’m sorry you didn’t understand what I meant but in future I will write using little words you might less difficulty with. In theory motorcycle CTs should be introduced but 2022 but there doesn’t seem to be much of hurry to get it sorted. It’s quite likely that they will initially be introduced when a bike is sold.
18. My quality of life here is much higher on my retirement income than it would be if I lived where my siblings live in south west England. The big unknown is the exchange rate. If the pound:euro rate dropped to 1:1 things might be different but it would it would have to drop a lot lower than that before I would consider leaving my home.
19. https://www.classicandsportscar.com/features/mot-exemption-changes-2018-13-things-you-need-know https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F328 I’m obviously irresponsible as I do not put my Vintage car through a CT. I am however far more aware of its overall condition than most modern car owners would be as regular maintenance schedules that involve greasing every 500km and oil changes every 1000km and pre-drive checks keep me up to date.
20. What good news. It’s great that older cars are still kept in a roadworthy condition by their owners. I’m not sure what noise has to do with emissions. I own three cars with an average age of over 35 years old and the youngest, a mere 13, passed its CT recently with flying colours. Is this thread about ageism or snobbery?
21. It was a completely different game between two different teams, your logic is too simple. It will be interesting to see how the final pans out. FYI rugby has laws not rules.
22.
If you mean football then it's South Africa v Wales because the ball has spent more time in the air. If you mean rugby then I don't think anyone has. Like I said with the standard of play today it will be a walk over for England. I don't understand when you look at the stats during the game why Wales does not have at least two tries on SA.
You really don’t have much of a clue do you. Today’s match was played on the pitch not in the air, a hard physical game between two teams who had a very good chance of winning right up to the 78th minute. A very different match to yesterday’s but that’s what happens. It’s all set up for a fascinating final.
23. After the final whistle today it was great to see the respect that the two teams have for each other being displayed. The All Blacks must have been far more than disappointed but they understood that they hadn’t been beaten by the weather, by bad refereeing or by unlucky bounces, on the day they had been beaten by a better team and respected that. England respected that their victory meant so much because of who they had beaten. Sportsmanship at its best.
24.
I don't think it matters who wins tomorrow based on what we saw today because England have basically already won the cup. .
Today’s result showed that until two teams face each other on the pitch on the day of the match all the hype and predictions in the world are irrelevant. England have beaten Australia and New Zealand on the way to their World Cup final but until the final has actually started their form in different matches counts for very little. If Wales face them in the final Wales will expect to win, if it’s South Africa I’m sure that they won’t just be there to make up numbers either.
