  3. I think 'Twin beds' give more options - esp if you use those beds that zip together........ ( I haven't got a gite though, so someone who runs one may have a different view ) Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  4. If you go to www.mappy.com and use the route finder the instructions come with 'signposts' that your visitors will see....I've found them most helpful.! Hope it helps Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  5. No, not potatoes - I have taken a liking to roast vegetables, peppers, asparagus, courgettes etc BUT instead of them being charmingly charred they seem to be more along the lines of bl***y burnt ! On the other hand shortening the time seems to mean they are not so tender and lack that certain sweetness. Should I be blanching them first.......would longer slower roasting be the answer ??? Seems so simple.....where am I going wrong ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  6. It occurred to me that some of you may use the A34 'en route' for Portsmouth........this route has road works ( near Whitchurch, going South at present)and long tail backs are anticipated all through the summer. Todays regional news shows queues nearly back to Newbury, best to try and avoid it if possible ! Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  7. Did you have a feeling of deja vue with that article about the common myths, a bit like reading the forum ! For a moment I wondered if Punch had been filling the odd hour writing 'How to find a builder'? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  8. Well I have only got a modicum of knowledge but it sounds as if you are getting spam and possibly some of them contain viruses. Have a look at the FAQ at the top of the forum for suggestions as to what computer software (free) you should be running to make sure you do not have problems. Good Luck Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  9. See your site got a great review in Living France magazine this month - well done ! Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  10. Are there routes from say Brest or Morlaix direct to St Malo ? ( I know I can go Quimper > Rennes> St Malo) Oh, and is there any 'left luggage' at the ferry terminal in case I arrive early. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/

  13. Have a look at http://moneysavingexpert.com lots of stuff there, and last time I looked there was some mention of the best CC to use abroad and explanation of how the charges are calculated. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/

  15. TU wont your dentist fit a temporary crown ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  16. Is this a fee or an initial deposit to open the account ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  17. I think you can go to a post office that deals in passports (probably the main one in your town )and pay extra for a speedy service, worked for my son, very quick. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  18. Sometimes people doing renovations have asked about baths versus showers and I admit I have always said a shower is OK. Well a shower is OK BUT having been without one for a week or so I have learned, or remembered, what a pleasure a bath can be... nothing like a good long soak....very relaxing. I wouldn't dismiss a gite without a bath, but one that did have one would get a plus point! Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  19. Found one answer in Avis, who may not be the cheapest but they were very helpful Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  20. Quite a lot has been written about this in the past - to start with you may like to try searching under CTG and/or Capital Gains tax as well as something like 'selling before 2 years' (The search facility is via the magnifying glass at the top of the page) Hope it helps, but the situation AFAIK is very different to the UK. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  21. Its occured to me that some of you may be able to help with this problem, (if you are in that age group and rent a car on visits to the UK) I am organising a meeting for mainly Americans in the UK and several of them are both over 70 and wanting to rent cars, I have had reports that they have come up against this maximum age of renter rule. Can any of you recommend any companies that DO rent to people over 70 by any chance? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  22. For those with internet access I send Jacquie Lawson cards http://www.jacquielawson.com/ by far the nicest cards I have come across. I think the annual membership is 7 - worth every penny in my opinion ! Sadly - I have no connection with this company Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/

If you want to avoid being ripped off by Brittany Ferries here's a bit of insider information: 1. Overnight crossings are always very expensive, even without cabin charges. 2. On the Portsmouth/Caen route, the morning crossing from France and the afternoon crossing from England are almost always cheapest. The same will apply to other routes with three crossings per day. 3. On most routes Tuesday is the cheapest day to travel. Exceptions are Portsmouth/St Malo (post 21 March when Friday is the cheapest), Poole/Cherbourg, where Wednesdays are the cheapest day, and while cheapest day Plymouth/Roscoff is Tuesday, Wednesday is chepaest in the Roscoff/Plymouth direction travelling between March-November. You can usually save money by booking P&O Dover-Calais crossings through http://www.ferry.co.uk. I know of no way of avoiding P&O western channel ripoffs though. If you don't mind travelling to the smaller ports, then it's always worth looking at Norfolk Line (Dover/Dunquerque) and Transmanche (Newhaven/Dieppe - http://www.transmancheferries.com). For stays more than 10 days, or one-way fares, http://www.ferrysale.co.uk is very good (it is a Hoverspeed-owned discount operation so it only has Hoverspeed services unfortunately). It's also worth looking at for shorter stays. Will (50)
