  1. No….we are all happy in France. OH would never move back to the UK. Well…..maybe if we did not have kids. OH…and the 3 half bred Froganglais love the UK….but they prefer France. Because that is what they know. Me….I go with the flow. I’m too laid back to worry about such things.
  2. I just let off steam on the forum…..Mint. I love France and you know that. I will fight for France until I am six foot under. France has always looked after me since I moved here. I will always be grateful. That said…I have no resect for Macron and what he is doing to France.
  3. A few years back we did Alpe du Huez…Bourg-d’Oisans…(over the col)….Gap…Salon de Provence……through the Carmargue to Montpellier. In one day. The route takes the most of the Route Napoléon. I agree it is one of best routes. We were in car. It was fantastic and beautiful. As close to Scotland as you can get. At one point high in the Ecrins….the road is split in half by a river. And you had to drive over it. That was scary.
  4. Also the French. Maybe more so the French. Tourism as a business is a really really dumb idea to get into in France. Foreign or not. The French peeps that bought our last house (who were from the area we were selling in) had moved very South in France for a life change. They were never excepted into the village because they were not from ‘Provance’. Their life was a misery. So they moved back. But I guess you have the same attitude anywhere in the World. Is life today worth the financial risk ? It is a no for me.
  5. I moved to France because of work and stayed ever since. Would I sell up in the UK today and move to France in other circumstances? Yes, but only if I was rich. I would not put myself or my family in financial risk on a whim. France is not worth it.
  6. Another daft article from ‘The Gurdian’ about France. I can name 10 (or a lot more if you like) better places to visit in ´France’. With no crowds to bother you. Incidently, I drove back from the very loverly rural Southern Bourgogne (in my top 10) early this morning. I left at 1 am ! Do you know what, the roads were really busy. Even at that time of night on Friday. The A71 was not packed but very busy going South at 2/3 am. Where are they going…..I guess to the top ten Gurdian places to visit in France. Naaa…forget summer. And that list…lol. BTW The Gurdian…..the only time to visit Alsace is in the Autumn or Winter. Most peeps we know go abroad.
  7. I dunno…but I just don’t get the point. Sell your house, uplift your kids….do I bring me car or buy one in france. Open a gīte…or mow lawns for a living. Pretend I am a builder. Bureaucracy, Bureaucracy, Bureaucracy. CDS…..carte vitale…blah blah blah. My wife hates it but I love it. I hate it buy my wife loves it. Is France worth a divorce ? Can someone tell me what is the point of moving to France. I am going mad today pondering this life mystery.
  8. What is the point of moving to France ? That is my debate….of the day. No seriously….what is the point ? Food no….its the same. Actually….I think French processed food (which most is) is god awful….it makes me really ill. Really ill !. Not well ALBF eating French processed food. Which most is. Countryside (uk vs France) hmmm no….its the same….the UK is greener. France is browner. Culture…..I have no idea what that is after 25 years. Adventure ….yeah I guess. But that is the same from moving from Cornwall to Wales. Or vice versa. So why move to France ? You can do the same in the UK. From an English perspective. What is the point of moving to France ? Just asking.
  9. I’m on Ken (sorry with Ken) on this one. We all like a good old debate. I bet the ‘argument’ section would be the most frequented part of the forum. Bread machines don’t turn me on. Personally. You still have to cleam them.
  10. Oooooh don’t worry Ken, I take little notice of what you say.🙃 Your just fun to engage with on a forum. I like your no nonsense style. Keep up the good work.
  11. But it is….I don’t know anyone who thinks otherwise. As a father of three kids, the growing violent situation in France keeps me awake at night. Do I want them to go to university in France ?…no.
  12. I seem to remember not so long ago you telling me that I live in shìtty area. In fact you have said it many times. Particularly when I complain (in general) about the level of crime and violence in France. I am not complaining about where I live but how France is becoming more and more dangerous every year. You should move you say. Should I move to Bayonne? Just saying that the problem of crime and violence in France exists everywhere and it it is getting worse. Bayonne or the Basque region is no different. Being judgmental (which you are ) on where people live (especially those who have no choice) is quite silly and shows lack of knowledge of the country you live in. Just saying.
  13. Like you keep telling us Ken…you live in the best area of France. Or do you just live in France like the rest of us… 1 murder…and 5 alleged rapes. https://www.bfmtv.com/police-justice/fetes-de-bayonne-trois-hommes-recherches-apres-la-mort-d-un-homme-violemment-agresse_AN-202308040258.html https://www.bfmtv.com/police-justice/fetes-de-bayonne-une-cinquieme-plainte-pour-viol-deposee_AN-202308040405.html yep…might give that area a miss.
  14. I bet. We should have left France 20 years ago for Scotland…but we didn’t.
  15. Electric cars are the savior of humanity. Repeat after me. The most dumb human invention ever made after betamax….IMHO. But peeps will fall it.
  16. Survive France has just imploded. Lol. And it was not an electric car catching fire bringing it down.
  17. We have done the applecross route in the snow many many years back. Which was fun. It is beautiful. But I think the top route into Applecross is more interesting. Personally. The planning is to go Inverness…around Loch Ness…then up to Lochcarron, Torridon, Gairloch back to Inverness. I love Scotland. The most beautiful and welcoming country in the world France needs to learn a lesson in those respects. Hope Ken enjoys First class San Francisco….it sounds loverly……not. Lol.
  18. I have a few problems with the Orient Express. 1) It does not go anywhere I want to go. 2) You might meet the Beckhams, Gordon Ramsey….and Ken. 3) You might meet the Beckhams, Gordon Ramsey….and Ken. I had to do that twice. Lol….I can’t tolerate the thought of meeting and spending time on a train with classless idiots. 4) It dont go to Scotland.
  19. You strike me as someone who would be fairly regular in the USA. Is that the food ? You like burgers ? Food is a problem for me in America. Because they don’t seem to have discovered what food it is yet. Oh yes…and guns. They like shooting each other. Like I said….enjoy your trip. Burgers and guns. Sounds fun. Even at 1st class prices. I love trains….I would do the Amtrak in Canada. I costed the Orient Express but that is like 20 k….and goes nowhere I want to go.
  20. My sister went to the god old US of A a few months back for a three week road trip. She said the country was a dump. Never will she go back. Everyone I speak to says the same. I would go just to see….but I am not spending 6 hrs on a plane. And yes we can afford to go first class as well. In terms of my trip…..well…we are off to Scotland. By train…and sleeping on it. Enjoy your first class trip to hell.
  21. The decision to hold the olympique games full stop in France was insane. Will it go well or will it be carnage ? Given recent political events and the management of recent international sporting events….it will be carnage methinks.
  22. School holidays have to change. They were completely con even before the climate crisis. 3 weeks xmas, 3 weeks spring, 4 weeks summer, 3 weeks toussaient. Summer holidays to travel abroad are finished. Peeps need to get that into there head.
  23. Why would anyone take a holiday in France (or anywhere) in the summer months ? Overpriced, congested, tooo feckìng hot, wildfires, flooding, hailstorms, strikes, crime….need I go on. Peeps need wake up to the new order. Those who are stuuupid enough to go on holiday in the summer months deserve their fate. Enjoy Dover tonight you mupets.
  24. Is it me or has France become live, die, repeat….in the summer. Too hot, tourism, bouchons, 14th of fecking July, tour de boring, crapy endless summer news reports on France that we have seen and heard so many millions of times before. Hail storms, flooding, mosquitoes….shut the shutters at midday not to suffocate….need I go on. July and August have to be the worst months to live or be in France. Bring on the rentré.
