  1. I will never grow up..🤫 Life is better if you don’t. Your are a spring chicken like the rest of us Mint. So don’t you start giving me lectures..🙂
  2. France has just become one gigantic tourist theme park. There is little French about France anymore.
  3. When I was in Alpe du huez last weekend….everyone said (folks in shops and ski instructors and all the rest) the resort is now 60 % Brazilain and Argentilian. In terms of clientele. I kid you not. Then it is the British and then the French. Did not see that one coming. The ambiance was loud and not fitting for a French ski resort. Stuff that for a game of soldiers.
  4. No…no I have to correct myself because their headquarters are in France….but I think the family lives in Belgium. But then again, I have idea. The shop brands they own. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_Familiale_Mulliez
  5. Agreed. Especially one that most people here have shopped in and own many renowned retail outlets in France. But its headquarters are not in France….I guess for tax reasons. Guess who it is.
  6. Yeah..I was very much taken with the town. It has everything you need in life. OH went to school there when she was younger. First time I have been there. Just worried about the heat in the summer. Other than that, Im good to go.
  7. I think it is down to the consumer. I happy to pay more for milk, potatoes, tomatoes (for example) as long as the money goes to the producer and not some suit in Paris.
  8. It was a play on words. Nosette is from the ‘Lots’. read it again. 😀 Anyway yeah, looking for change. We were looking at Voiron. Which is a nice little town between Grenoble and Lyon. I an worried about the heat in the summer. Spent two days in Alpe d Huez to see some snow. Returned back to Tours pretty much on RN..due to the protests. 9 hours drive. It was knackering. Charmonix is nice…went there years ago. I bet the glacier is gone now.
  9. Apologies…..google correct had a bit of a turn. I meant ‘I agree with Chirac and the farmers’. Chirac said ‘always look after the farmers’. This is being discussed on many Brit forums….and it seems that Brits mostly don’t like the actions of the French farmers. But then again before Brexit many Brits used to buy their food from the UK and have it delivered to France. So they have no idea of the country they live in. More concerned about their swimming pool. Anyway, I am with the farmers on this one. Things need to change. Particularly the EU. Otherwise, France will starve to death. I am with you French farmers. Also, just think about those poor SNCF drivers striking because they can’t retire at 50 anymore because trains no longer run on coal ! I think a lot of people think food grows in supermarkets
  10. If you don’t like your job or you don’t like the pay, find another job. Retrain. That is what we all have to do in life. That said, France might starve to death if all the farmers jacked in their job. Discuss.
  11. ALBF has been out and about discovering France. Not like you Lots that stay in one place and call yourself French 😀🤪 Seen some very nice places and played in the snow. Had some very nice French food that did not invove a duck. Got stuck by the farmers in Grenoble for two hours. Which was fine as we were all in good mood. Kinda of found a new potential place to live.
  12. That is a fifteen year project. We have time to kill. I like moving about. You only live twice Mr Bond.
  13. Blimey…that is not good. Here…….for OH…its a five minute walk. I mean that seriously. GP…is a 10 minute walk for everyone else. I guess that is the disparity. Healthcare ! Along with work, schooling and the rest of life. That house I linked is worth a good million + ++ where we live. London…..10 million I reckon.
  14. So we are thinking of moving…..again. Like we do every year. Just another mainstream no frills part of France. So we are looking at property in our chosen area to match what we have here. We would get another rag tad two up two down. But in the Dordogne for far less budget…we could get this. https://www.leboncoin.fr/offre/ventes_immobilieres/2325573198 So what am I I missing ? Why is the Dordogne so cheap ?
  15. Obviously…when it is not obvious. Essential when it is not essential.
  16. Put this another way. You invest 80 k in a property in France and I will guarantee you that you will pay 3 x as much turning it into house you could possibly live in. Then you have the tax and all the rest every year to pay. So you are looking 250 k….plus yearly tax. Lastly, you will never see that money again. There is no investment here. Now, 80 k will pay for 20 years of 4k holidays to France. Or anywhere else. Owning a property in France unless you live here is really not a good idea. IMHO.
  17. The French and others have holiday homes all over France so it just accepted. The only problem occurs in towns and cities that are short of accommodation. Rented or otherwise. Did you say your budget is 80 k ? Or have I read that wrong ? Apart from a car parking space….you won’t buy anything for 80k worth living in. Also, a holiday home is not the same thing as a retirement home. Two very different things.
  18. PM’d you. If you don’t receive it, it is ‘The Signal Box’ at Euston station. It is located upstairs from the main concourse.
  19. Ok.. France vs UK France its the people. The French make the country what is…and it is why I still live here. I love the French and Frenchness. I don’t have much affinity with the British as such. Peeps have become too ‘Beckham’ and pretentious. What I am saying is the British have lost their Britishness. That is the bit I don’t like much about the UK. Apart from that…I think the UK blizs the France on most levels apart from health. No particularly order… - better food - better education. Apart from French teachers the French educational system is dire…beyond awful. - Weather is better - Transport is better (controversial I know) but I think it is. - Countryside is nicer - More things to do. France is….dare I say it….boring as hell. Worse thing about the UK….too many people on such a small Island. Far too crowded. Also the TV which is dire. France vs UK….no idea.
  20. Well I live in a city, and have lived 3 times in Paris and Lyon. French food is bland and no way near the level of UK food. Which is why M&S food oulets in Paris were stripped bare.
  21. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/jan/18/eu-citizens-entry-britain-spain-europeans-uk-border Start kicking the Brits out of the EU until the UK starts behaving ?
  22. Yeah but no but. Great being able to vote…but who you going to vote for ? Not the best of choice in UK. Torries…ummm….no… That tw*t Stammer…..no.
  23. Yeah…no. Its nice the first time. That is about it. Another pointless (expensive) French tradition. Give me a bourbon or maybe a custard cream biscuit and a cuppa anytime. You won’t break a tooth with a custard cream. 🙃
