  1. My French teacher and non British classmates cannot understand this obsession that the English have with the sex lives of their politicians. For me the issue is 'was it legal and between consenting adults', and did the person abuse their position of power. If it's legal and the person concerned did not abuse their position of power then I think it is up to them what they do. To bring in Trump on this, if he carries on with other adult women, then I guess that's up to him and Melania. Grabbing women and using the services of prostitutes are illegal so not okay.
  2. I think the difficulty comes when Theresa May says she has 65 million people supporting her , when she clearly doesn't. It's one thing to say that one side got more votes than the other but it's quite another to say that those that did not vote for it now support it.
  3. You see you even have a different view of the past EBN. My parents were also involved in the war, but they were always very clear that they weren't fighting Germany and ordinary Germans, but the Na zis and fascism. I'm glad you are being honest and removing Scotland, Wales and NI from your Eutopia. You should also remove London from your list. On a personal level I don't live in the UK anymore thank God and pretty soon I won't have any more money there so it has nothing to do with whether I like it or not as it won't affect me. I do feel sorry though for the majority who did not vote to become the 51st State. As to Trumpton, even the most ardent of leave voters that I know do not associate themselves with Trump's madness. The whole issue of state visit may not be relevant if he is impeached by then,
  4. I would just buy the car and say nothing. I don't think the tax office will even be informed. I inherited money from my mothers UK estate when she died. The UK estate is taxed in the UK and of no interest to the French tax authorities (and yes, I did check). If anyone asks about the money I say it is my inheritance. No one ever questions it. I would have thought the only issue with the gift would be if the donor died within 6 years, in which case the UK tax authorities would class the gift as part of their estate.
  5. when I bought my car I paid by direct transfer from a UK currency broker. No one asked where the money came from.
  6. I don't like most of the teas but I do like the liquorice and mint one.. Lavazza coffee as well. I had the cold as well.. still get the occasional cough.
  7. I think it was a Monday and they were closed.
  8. I agree with you about the Christmas market in Bordeaux..complete waste of time and load of rubbish for sale. I went to the one in Brussels a few years ago. OH was working for the day and I tagged along and we spent a weekend there. (Not on expenses..his train fare was paid but we covered the rest ourselves). We actually stayed in a hotel in the area where the Paris terrorists came from. Thought it looked a bit dodgey when we walked back from town but have stayed in worse! OH went to work and I went to the market. By 10.30 I was done.. absolutely nothing there of any interest. I sat and wasted a half hour having a coffee and then spent the rest of the day wandering aimlessly around the streets, drinking more coffee, more wandering, desperately trying to keep warm! In the end I resorted to sitting in the railway waiting room and then the church, with all the homeless people! It has to be the most boring city I have ever been to and I can't say the people at the market were any more 'classy' than those I see in any other big city. What a strange world you seem to live in EBN..so different to that of the rest of us.
  9. "How any reasonable person can think that unchecked uncontrolled immigration is a good thing is beyond me." America already had one of the strictest immigration policies going. No one is arguing necessarily for unchecked immigration because that has never been the case. "It seems that it is OK to mention anything on this forum except perhaps when MUSLIM ISLAMIC STATE fighters posing as refugees who run down huge numbers of good white Christian people using large vehicles in mainland Europe." It seems to me that no one stops you posting whatever you like about Muslims. The German attacker was a Tunisian who had been known to the police for months, was living there illegally and had already been arrested three times. I doubt closing borders would have made much different in his case. I don't know whether some or all of the victims were Christian. Do you? One was an Israeli. I certainly don't know whether they were all white or whether they were 'good'..or do you just assume that anyone Christian is automatically white and good? Not that their religion or colour would make their death in that way any less or more horrific.
  10. I don't know personally but if you are planning to move to the South West there is a big problem with bird flu at the moment and chickens and ducks can only be kept in an enclosed area so that they are protected from wild birds.
  11. Narcissists are not known for their sense of humour. See here: http://theweek.com/speedreads/654458/does-donald-trump-have-sense-humor Quote:Trump made a few lackluster attempts at cracking wise. He changed a joke meant to slam [Seth] MacFarlane from: "The only way you'll ever draw a crowd is with a pencil." Trump's revision: "The only crowd you'll attract is flies." After a joke that cited climate change, Trump suggested a parenthetical: "(Which obviously doesn't exist)." Elsewhere, Trump suggested a broadside against the entire dais: "Their all losers and I like associating with loser because it makes me feel even better about myself." (The grammar mistakes are Trump's.) Even in a script designed to be self-effacing, Trump couldn't resist boosting himself. At the conclusion of the rebuttal, in an exaggerated (even by Trumpian standards) riff about how he lives in a "25,000 square-foot penthouse atop my solid-gold space station," Trump ordered that the square footage be goosed to 50,000. He changed a line that read, "I'm sorry, I must go now and make a million dollars somewhere else," to a "billion" dollars. And: "One thing that stuck out to me during rehearsal is he would always poll the people around him if they thought it was funny. He never really seemed to have a grasp on what was funny and why it was funny. He was always looking at others to validate if it was funny," It must be a real handicap to go through life without a sense of humour.
  12. I saw it a few days ago and think it's very funny. Apparently DT doesn't like people taking the p*ss out of him though, so be careful who you share it with. :)
  13. Yes courgettes are expensive and I can't bring myself to buy them as in the summer I have so many I get sick of them. There were no cucumbers in Grand Frais last week and no bananas but I think that's more to do with their stock management. Plenty of lettuce!
  14. "So, he has the support of his people, of nearly half of the electorate, and the support of the ARMED services, he has control of both houses, How exactly does anyone think a petition will stop him????" It isn't petitions themselves that stop anything..It's the fact that they sew doubt in the minds of reasonable people. As do peaceful demonstrations. In themselves they don't change the world, but they can change opinion. It's a long term strategy not a short term fix. Armed forces support will be okay for protecting against problems overseas, but no professional army will be happy shooting citizens of their own country. If Trump wants to rule in that way he will have to train up a special militia to do the dirty work. That's what all dictators have to do. As for snowflakes..a beautiful complex structure..no one is the same and when they group together they are powerful enough to start an avalanche.
  15. I don't think he's capable of that amount of subtlety. The problem is not so much that he has had to back track but that the edict was signed without any warning or planning for his own officials. It is still unclear as to what the situation is for British citizens with dual nationality with the American Embassy saying one thing and the foreign office saying something else. It just makes the whole lot look totally incompetent. If he had thought it through he could have avoided the situation where people, who had already left on the plane, had their immigration status changed mid flight.
  16. She's got herself into a difficult position now though. Difficult to pull out of the offer but if it goes ahead she faces DT being greeted by the 'best and biggest' anti Trump demonstration ever. Could be embarrassing..and can you trust Prince Charles to keep his mouth shut on climate change? Her best way out would be to hope that her maj takes seriously ill between now and the visit, giving her an excuse to cancel.
  17. Chancer, you could look at it another way. As I stated in my first link..she was keen to grab his hand because while she had hold of it, it wouldn't be straying anywhere else.
  18. If that person is Trump, Rolf Harris or Jimmy Saville yes, any attempt at physical contact is revolting. There is never 'harmless physical contact' from a sex pest. I can think of several men that I have had to deal with in a work situation that would give me the same reaction. Had they grabbed my hand my involuntary reaction would have been a slap round the chops.
  19. Although that assumes people have children because of the money available . My guess is it will put off very few poorer people from having children. It certainly never did in the past. I don't have any kids..something I'm very grateful for when I see the dystopian future to which we are heading.
  20. To be clear it isn't limiting the number of children anyone can have, but limiting benefits, in particular tax credits, to two children. It only applies to new claimants. As with many things it will affect poorer people more than the wealthy.
  21. You have to think of Trump from a women's perspective Chancer, if you want to understand how vile he is..and I don't mean whether you agree with his politics or not. It does matter what his motivation was for grabbing her hand. There are just some men that even that amount of physical contact makes you feel sick. Predatory sex offenders do not make most women feel comfortable in their presence.
  22. Well while she's got hold of his hand it won't be straying anywhere uninvited! She was probably protecting her chatte
  23. I should also add many Bambis are killed every weekend here by the hunters. They've been doing it long before the EU. They are also routinely culled in the UK. Bambi has no natural predators apart from man. Tastes very nice in a civet.
  24. The Donald (aged 13) was upset because he didn't get as many friends turning up to his party as his friend did so had a bit of a tantrum..or rather told his mate to have a tantrum on his behalf. Fortunately the nice Kellyanne lady soothed him by telling him, never mind, it wasn't really that bad as everyone was just making up stories about him, and she would make up some alternative stories so he would feel better.
