  1. The vitriol usually starts flowing at about page 3. This WAS a good thread!
  2. It's not a problem, but thanks for responding! Kong
  3. I think the thread went squiffy when L&G mentioned Child benefits etc. Wouldn't it have been better to start a different thread as the drift had no relevance to the original thread?
  4. Didn't know you needed to be on child benefit to renew your passport. When was this introduced?
  5. I wish you luck and hope you get some help from forum people here. Our builder went under and promptly dissappeared. It wasn't fraud, just bad financial management. We lost about £7000 and had to find additional funds to finish the work. We never recovered any money and weren't the only people to lose out. I hope you fair better but be prepared for the worst. 6. He was a resident teacher at a small school in Kent in the early fifties. I was priviledged (though I didn't know it at the time) to be taught maths by him. I was lucky enough to visit his house in East Grinstead and peer through his telescope in a converted potting shed. Space travel in those days he deemed 'impossible'!   Kong
  7. I enjoyed this: http://www.channel4.com/news/china-falls-for-kim-jong-un-sexiest-man-spoof Who do you think might be next? Kong

    Top-up insurance

Might be useful, but my mutuel agent suggested getting treatment near year renewal time. Get the practioner to invoice you in two parts, one for the current year and one in the next year. That way you get two years topup allowance for the one treatment. I understand it is common pratice! Kong
  9. Junkware is great. Installing it is a quick way to use up your system resources, memory and performance. You may have forgotten that when you first bought your machine it took 30 seconds to boot - now it takes several minutes whilst it loads hundreds of fairly useless 'processes'. Un-installing these facilities doesn't always return the system to an earlier better performance state as the un-installation process is never 100% efficient. Best is to rebuild from scratch, but this is time consuming, as I know from looking after many hundreds of pcs and servers. Kong
  10. Hi!. It's only just now that I have been able to get onto the site. So maybee my prognosis was right. Glad you're sorted. Regards Kong
  11. I think you might find the problem is with DNS. If IP addresses have been changed for a particular domain, new addresses are published to the millions of DNS servers throughout the world. It can take hours or days for these updates to propogate worldwide and may not have reached your DNS/ISP. Using different machines on the same internet connection gave me  the same wrong sites, so it's not the machine that is at fault. If you are using windows you can clear the DNS cache in your machine using the command line command: ipconfig/dnsflush. This might help! Kong
  12. Thank you for pointing me there, hopefully I will find a solution. Kong
  13. Does anyone use www.meteofrance.com ? Looks like it's been nicked? Kong
  14. Is it possible to open such an account, or a Livret A, online if you already have a current account with CA? Kong
  15. Get the feeling threads have crossed. Is it 'non-u' to bray in Lidl's? Basileus
  16. I haven't got used to the fact they no longer supply starting handles with new cars. Kong
  17. Can't see how they could do it unless I was particularly daft and sent sent them all my bank details......
  18. Thanks for that, it's what I expected. What do they hope to gain from it - time wasting? Kong

  20. Live and Neutral connected at source? I hope you mean Earth and Neutral. Kong
  21. I will email you a link to the company that supplied my heater, not exactly the same as mine though.
  22. Yes it is. I have a 300l tank with a heat pump on top. Just as with reversible aircon/heating systems enengy is extracted from the air (in this case) and used to heat a refrigerant which in turn heats the water. For each kw of electricity used up to 3 kw of energy can be generated though this level of efficiency is rarely achieved. So it is inevitable that it is cheaper to run than conventioanl ballons. However the capital costs are inevitably high. Also under some circumstances you can claim tax relief, though I've never tried.
  23. Sorry I'm confusing the issue, I have pompe a chaleur which is more efficient still - about one third the cost of chauffe eau.
