1. LOL - I'm on a rest month (almost) actually - shame to miss all the fun. Still it means I can have a jolly good chat on here:-) Chiefluvvie
2. Steady Sprogster - you may be accused of being patronising by a Forum Moderator.....we'll see shall we....:-) Chiefluvvie
3. I agree RH - some of us can accept that unintentional sh*t happens. Although...you, and others, still seek to blame the 2 DJ's for the death of the nurse ....'she would be alive today' - you don't know that. The Noel Edmunds show incident was during a recording of a stunt - not really comparable to a prank call. Indeed he was pilloried and he disappeared from UK TV for a long time afterwards - he became the scapegoat. Up until that moment the viewers had lapped up his programme. Chiefluvvie
4. Only seen one but my immediate view would be that it would all come across very differently if they filmed during the Winter! Chiefluvvie
5. No RH I don't think it's ok - I think it's stupid and infantile not to mention an unacceptable breach of privacy - something for the hospital to look at. Many laughed and were amused by the original prank until it all went horribly wrong. But, to blame the DJ's for the suicide of the nurse is madness. I guess Jeremy Beadle (and others) was lucky not to have someone drop dead of a heart attack during one of his pranks. He would have been pilloried and remembered very differently if that that had ever happened - but would he have foreseen it or wanted it to happen? I doubt it! We just laughed.......luckily Chiefluvvie
6. But no Russethouse - you cannot possibly say she is dead because of two adults idea of a childish prank - you don't know that. You're speculating. I know - let's ban all prank calls shall we? That should sort it. (!) I maintain that suicide is indeed a selfish act - no regard is given to the people left behind - regardless of culture. You're entitled to your own opinion on that one but please don't twist my words. Chiefluvvie
7.
"Just a word for those who love the 'bonjour monsieur / madame' preambles in shops and when meeting etc - such 'acknowledgements' are about as sincere as the USA's 'have a nice day!' - they're cultural, habitual and essentially superficial. Nice how 'foreigners' find them endearing though - :-)" How astonishing patronizing of you Chiefluvvie. It is perfectly possible to know all of that and still like it. And I do. Hoddy
Jolly good for you Hoddy - no pulling the wool over your eyes then? Do try and restrict personal attacks though - goes against the forum code of conduct - especially as you are a Moderator. BTW Is everyone on here a Moderator - and can I apply? Bonne journée ! :-) Chiefluvvie
8. The 2 Australian DJ's were playing a prank - just like the thousands before them have played in the media. We have all at one time or another laughed at some of these pranks - indeed some laughed at the hospital one before the suicide of the nurse. No one has ever died before because of a radio prank call. There is absolutely no way the DJ's could have foreseen the tragic outcome and in no way did they ever expect or want that outcome. There was no intention to harm, no malice - just like when I go out in my car or fly a plane - I have no intention of harming anyone but sh*t happens - sometimes. The DJ's are not to blame for the death of Jacintha Saldhana - she committed suicide - an entirely selfish act in itself. No one, except her, knows why she did it. Chiefluvvie
9.
I am genuinely surprised that on a forum for francophiles so many of you seem to dislike the french so much. Why live in a country or have a holiday home there if you find so much to be disagreable. Are you masochists?
Rabbie - Two things for me - and I have dual nationality. 1. my rose-tinted glasses fell off and 2. the socialists came to power - so I'm off elsewhere, life's too short. Just a word for those who love the 'bonjour monsieur / madame' preambles in shops and when meeting etc - such 'acknowledgements' are about as sincere as the USA's 'have a nice day!' - they're cultural, habitual and essentially superficial. Nice how 'foreigners' find them endearing though - :-) Chiefluvvie
10. sweet - that's where the laziness thing comes into play ! Chiefluvvie
11. ebaynut I absolutely love that one!! :-) Here goes ...although I'll probably regret it... Apathy Laziness Xenophobia Sexism Homophobia Watching TV Staying Indoors Small dogs Red Hair Short Hair (women) Severe Spectacles Marital Affairs Benefit Claiming and of course.... Dead Flowers and that's only the examples from my immediate family....:-) Chiefluvvie
12. emmm ....pot, kettle, black PaulT! And your post added what exactly ? Got any comment to make on the hoax call by any chance? This is beginning to feel like a vendetta...... Chiefluvvie
13.
Can't we all accept that sh*t happens sometimes and just because a tradegy occurs we don't have to hang, draw and quarter someone who didn't intend the consequences Yes, Sh*t happens, it's how you deal with it that counts and these two seem to either doing it badly all by themselves or they have been given poor advice. Time for them to retire quietly for a few days or weeks, IMHO !
I couldn't agree more ! Chiefluvvie
14. Gardengirl - take a look at my post at 10:27 today - in my opinion it was balanced and compassionate. It attracted derision and aggression - including that of a forum moderator. Shameful, but no doubt a sound recruiting ground for the firing squad volunteers. Chiefluvvie Chiefluvvie
15. Gardengirl - I suggest you RECHECK your posts (including your last one) and consider speaking for yourself without the 'many of us', 'many others', 'I and many' - comfort blankets wrapped around you. You also need to re read my original posts on this tragic subject - I tried to present a balanced and compassionate view for which I have been pilloried. You only know about me those things I have chosen to disclose - my mistake as some of those things are now being used to attack me. In terms of the two young presenters - gang mentality springs to mind...a shameful display of 'flog em and hang em!' Chiefluvvie
16. He who closes his ears to the views of others shows little confidence in the integrity of his own views. Chiefluvvie
17.

...and still the compassion pours out from the complete france forum.....full of saints it would seem..... You better hurry up and have your dinner and then you can pop down to the village stocks.... Chiefluvvie
And when you have finished yours you can pop off to Mauritius. Actually I am surprised with your comments here you are waiting till February. I would have thought you would be extra keen to get away from us all. [:D]
Quillan dear - do try and steer away from personal attacks - I thought you were a Moderator? Smacks of - ''you can say whatever you like, and hurt whoever you like - but I can't'' - you'll simply delete my posts. Pretty fair eh ? Chiefluvvie
18. Gardengirl A forum is a place for diverse opinions and discussion - nothing wrong with that. It's a shame it so obviously makes you feel uncomfortable when challenged. I see a lot of 'we' and very little 'I' whereas, in my posts, I am more than happy to own MY opinions. Chiefluvvie

20. Hi krusty - not with my Foxsat/Humax HD - no. Maybe someone with an HDR model could confirm? But - you can also use the Smart DNS for your laptop along with the BBC iPlayer Desktop application - for single programme and Series Record etc. I also use the filmon.com player on my pc to record UK TV (and other) channels - works like a dream and no need for any VPN's / DNS's ! I take the programmes with me or watch them live wherever i fly. Chiefluvvie
21. A tip from a Captain I was flying with recently - works for me! It's probably been covered before but worth a reminder..... If you do have a problem receiving any of your favourite ITV & BBC Channels you can quite easily and cheaply set up your Foxsat/Humax Freesat box to use BBC iplayer and ITV Player - without the need for a complicated VPN service ! Overplay.net provide a Smart DNS service for about £3 a month. Just pop their DNS server address into your Freesat box (under the network settings menu) and you get instant access to both players. Really, really simple way of masking your physical location. I believe it also works with Sky boxes but no idea about the newtork settings. There are some free DNS server providers but apparently they don't tend to provide any streaming TV access. Obviously your Freesat box needs to be connected to broadband internet via either an ethernet cable directly into your router (in my case an SFR Neufbox) or by using a CPL adapter - I've plugged my SFR Neufbox CPL adapter into the back of my Freesat box (no need for SFR TV in my house!). Happy viewing / Chiefluvvie
22. ''The two DJ's certainly epitomise the adage "be careful what you wish for..." '' DO THEY ? How did you work that one out Betty dear ??? Chiefluvvie
23. I see the compassion is still pouring out on this thread ! The young radio presenters made a stupid, stupid mistake and grave error of judgement - something that will no doubt haunt them for the rest of their lives. I can barely imagine what that must be like for them - a living hell. Maybe one or two others on this forum might just try, for a split second to imagine that. Essentially they will deal out their own 'punishement'. Above all, my heart goes out to the family and friends of Jacintha Saldanha - dealing with her suicide and the reasons for it will be unimaginably hard for them - also for the rest of their lives. No winners, just losers. Chiefluvvie
24.
She may have felt keenly responsible for causing her employers deep embarrassment, for jeopardising her employers' relationship with the royal family, for making a colleague trust her and reveal confidential information, for putting a patient's health in jeopardy, for risking the wrath of the most powerful family in the land, for being the butt of jokes world-wide... all because two prats thought it would be funny to make a call to a hospital about a sick woman.
Well said Clair.... Chiefluvvie
