1.
AnO When I turn it on, every time I have to go through a silly Q&A procedure.  With the TomTom once done the first time, that's the end of it.
Coops. What is the silly Q&A procedure you talk about. Still haven't made up my mind fully. Looked at Tom Tom but not sure of them.
2. I saw it this morning from the UK. We have a sat receiver that receives the French free sat transmissions, turned it on to TF1, plus radio 5live for the audio feed and away we go. Only small problem  the radio was a couple of seconds in front of the TV signal, knew Jensen got round in front of lewis before I saw it.
3. Just turn the appliance around the other way.
4. Thanks for the replies everyone, Looking at the feedback's on various buying sites it seems every Satnav have buyers that either swear by them or swear at them. I know Garman are supposed to be a reliable make. Coops maybe yours was a Friday afternoon model? I have an old Navman at the mo, its so old I am unable to updates the maps on it and its getting a bit temperamental on finding its location, hence my looking for a more modern one. Thanks all
5. Anyone purchased a UK Garmin lately with European mapping and their free for life updates offer. Would be interested if the updates were just for the UK or covered Europe as well. Cheers Marmite
6. Maybe on this occasion the distance could cause a  bit of a problem.
7. I might be persuaded to transport a trailer as long as I could "pop a few items in it".
8.
Ebay, if you want one
No doubt they will have to be type approved in France.
9. Wasn't it Freddie Frinton doing his drunk routine on this clip many years ago. Edit. Just read the Daily Mail bit
10.
Hi. Sorry but that is not true, I have one and had it for three years, on an English credit card. Mine is with SANEF.   ColinE
Maybe for existing clients its true ( for the time being anyway) but new clients have to pay via a French bank account. This was from 01.01.2011 as per Sanef. Have heard that by the end of 2012 the option to pay SANEF France using a English card debit or credit will end, These customers will get an option of signing up to the UK offshoot if you want to continue paying in sterling. Of course the monthly fee is higher then the French site.
11. Ah yes, Castrol R used to put it in my scooter ( LI 150) in the 60's loverly smell.
12. You can't beat Swarfega mixed with Duckhams 20-50
13. Yes Albert it is swings and roundabouts about when is the best time, never really !! More to the point it just confirms that Metro Banks cash withdrawals are competitive with Nationwide's promise not to load.
14.
Can confirm all details correct, we use Metro Bank to withdraw cash and Nationwide credit card for purchases. In the summer when we were there we made purchases/ withdrawal on both cards, they were debited from our accounts within a day or so of each other. The exchange rate applied was within a cent or so of each other.
Update on my comment. Back in the UK and have my bank statements to hand. Take 31 October as an example, I have two debits on that day, one Nationwide credit card and one Metro Bank cash withdrawal. Nationwide 10.18 Euro @ 1.136161 to the pound Metro         300 Euro   @  1.135976   "        " May help other people decide about Metro Bank.

Not sure if that can be bypassed if you still have accounts in the UK and some kind of UK address and can get to a Metro bank with something with a UK address on it
16. What you can do is ask them to scan the card in their thingie, they will tell you how much credit you have on the card, and this can be used on purchases. But you have to ask them to do this. Its not an awful lot but anything helps.
17.
Is it just me, or does anyone else go brain dead when they start blathering on?
Try not pressing any buttons when they ask, quite often you are put through to the switchboard. Well it usually works for me. Give it a try.
18.
My gripes are  the complete lack of decent plinths to finish under the cabinets in any finishes that match the kitchen styles available. Each carcass kit is supplied with a little white plinth of its own, which would give a nasty patchwork effect under the units IMO. I went to Mr Bricolage and bought a large sheet of chipboard that was veneered in a pattern that matched my kitchen and cut my own full length plinths from that instead.
Dave, You can get plinths for under the cabinets in the same colour to match  the doors, we got some. As always in these places they are not in the area you expect them to store them, by the kitchen units. Our Brico depot I think they were over by the sheet material, chipboard, worktops etc, they are usually standing upright in a corner.
19. Ive found them ok as well, they do the job intended. We have also used the MFI ones in the UK (when they were in business)  We looked at the dearer end of the market and it seemed  both types are made with a chipboard frame and the extra cost was down to better doors. As Benjamin said put them together with a bit of thought and they will be fine.
20. Martin, Don't think it would work "on the move" but you should be able to do it if you can put the Skype app on your phone and be near those places that supply free wifi for their customers IE burger joints. We used to use Skype on our laptop at those joints, sometimes we sounded like a dalek other times it was ok. You would have to register with Skype and buy time if you wanted to phone a normal phone. But i'm sure you know that bit. Good luck.
